Seriously wtf. I watched the whole clip . I like it being so gross.🤮

    • If it ain't broke.

    • +1

A classic Pythons scene - one of their best.

      You've made my morning.

    • +2

without even clicking it I knew exactly what it was.

It's a hard effort to watch that entire skit without dry heaving.

    • +1

Seems to share the same 'leakage' issues the reviews describe on Bunnings…

    • +1

That’s the “or something “ OP was referring to.

    • +29

The zinc in gal gives off harmful fumes when heated to those sort of temps so wouldn't recommend.

      • Wow, interesting! Thanks for the info. Currently using a stainless bucket, thank goodness, for said purpose but had no idea about the zinc issue. Thanks again.

      • The fume toxicity issue is understandable but false
        https://smokelessfire.com/is-galvanized-metal-safe-for-fires…
Any cases ever of health issues from using it for that?

        • It's well known that many minerals are required and beneficial to our health and well being yet those same minerals in higher amounts (and those higher amounts are still minuscule) become toxic to us. It's one of those things that probably isn't going to kill or even perceivably harm you with occasional exposure but repeated and/or prolonged exposure very much can cause harm.

          • @apsilon: If it is 'well known' you should have no problem providing one such case of poisoning from having a fire in gal steel, especially given how readily available gal steel fire pits are.

It's well known that drinking too much water can be fatal so better not drink any water to reduce exposure.

            • +2

@brenwildman: I think when it comes to safety if it's easy enough to reduce the risk then it's smart to do so.
My experience with welding means I would be vigilant against heating up galvanised steel in general.
If others choose to do so that's up to them.
So many times things we thought were fine are actually not.

            • +1

@brenwildman: That's hard to do given patient records are confidential and you've clearly made up your mind regardless and simply don't want to believe that metal fume fever is real. I really don't care what you do or breath, you do you.

  • handy near charcoal bbq if dealing with hot ashes

    • -1

I wouldn't be using galvanized metal to catch anything hot.

      • +3

Yeah, I'd probably use a plastic bucket for that too.

      • Funny that, we've used a galvanised coal scuttle for decades for just this task with no adverse effects. You can even buy buckets for that sole purpose with "ash" printed on the side https://www.britishironworkcentre.co.uk/shop/galvanised-ash-…

Don't confuse the "hot" in "hot ashes" with the "hot" in "hot enough to burn zinc".

      • +1

While I like stainless steel buckets and have a couple myself, the metal is too thin in that one, and will dent easily:

        Material: Stainless Steel
        0.28mm Thickness

  • +1

I don’t need one, but I think I will get one for this price and then find it’s purpose
