yep… it said 1 next to your name, so first post…
welcome aboard.
I'll give you a +'ve for that, solely because you didn't ask us to be nice :-)
What does it even mean, ProspectiveDarkness? I don't know… but it keeps me up at night.
What are you talking about, Willis?
Welcome to OzBargain, as your reward for posting a deal of 50 likes so far, you are going to get negged 5 times
Heh, try 25 times.
wow, I didn't check the vote history.
damn, I just bought that liteon! would have bought this instead.
EDIT: wait, $12 shipping to VIC kind of kills it, good if you can pickup I guess.
i thought this was posted somewhere, thats why i bought mine on sunday.
oh well, nevertheless great price!
people should also try RAM Disk, pretty good alternative

MSY has this for $95 which is a better deal for the people living in other metro cities who want to avoid shipping costs
I would avoid these guys like the plague.
We ordered some laptops and one came with a faulty laptop battery. We sent it back which they finally acknowledged after months of dodging the questions and calls. Then they said they were going to send the replacement battery and nothing has been heard from them since and they hang up or dodge our phone calls. They refuse to take our phone calls they even dodge the department of fair trading.
So we have a laptop which does not have a battery.
Spend a few more dollars so you don't have to deal with this dodgy company.
@kasp.
Was this a lenovo by any chance?
Just so you know lenovo have just migrated a proportion of their call centres from aus/?? to Philippines. The wait time increased by roughly a factor of 5x (1 hour++ waits) and the people on the other end have been very incompetent. This was the case during the change over period. Probably 3-5 weeks ago.
So that would probably explain it.
Oh also if it was a lenovo L420 then yes there are known battery issues, we have sent roughly 20+ batteries back.
Just my 2 cents
He's talking about the shop, not the manufacturer.
I've avoided any deals I've seen from them too.
Yep they are an extremely dodgy shop. Right up there with Penta in my opinion.
No, this happened around 6 months ago and it is not a lenovo.
The shop just hangs up on me when I call. They just lie and dodge calls even if it is from fair trading. Would not recommend using them at all.
Hi Kasp
Would you be able to send all the details to [email protected] or you could send me your contact details so I can contact you in person.
Also please let me know the person that you spoke to, I’m very surprise that any staff at our customer service hang up customer’s phone call.
I need to get further detail from you before I can investigate this issue, however it is very unlikely we be able to ignore Department of Fair Trading
Regards
OnLine Computer
Hey guys,
I purchased this laptop from a previous deal: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/79775
Now, the only problem I have is that it's a little slow. If I purchase this SSD, would it make the computer much faster? Also, is it possible for me to install this on my own, or do I need an expert?
And lastly, do I need to format the laptop and reinstall Windows and other programs on the SSD?
its simple to install, DIY is possible.
though look up guides on how to open your laptop before attempting. dont want to damage components.
it is ideal to install directly to the ssd, for the freshness of the system.
It is also easier to install, since you dont need another pc, tools, etc
this is the guide i followed when i setup my ssd (post-install&format)

It'll certainly make windows feel faster, though the CPU will become your bottleneck.
Pretty easy to change the hdd, newbie had some trouble and solved it here:

If you swap out the hdd you can either do a disk>disk copy to the ssd, or just reinstall windows.
It's one of the biggest speed boosts you can get, makes CPU processing seem faster because the biggest bottleneck in a computer is a mechanical hard disk
I would say you will see better performance than an Intel Core i5 with a mechanical hard disk
System loads faster, programs open faster, save faster, faster video recording
The only thing it can't save you with is games
That's fine. My dad only uses the laptop for Skype, Messenger, Internet browsing, and the occasional porno :P
I hope you have MSE installed to tackle porno viruses :P
The speeds for video/music encoding, zip/rar compression/decompression will be largely determined by the CPU. Graphics work will be determined by the CPU/GPU. SSD has little influence in those areas.
SSD's are great for speeding up loading times and file transfers.
Why buy a cheap laptop only to spend more then 1/3rd of its initial cost upgrading it?
Can it be used in a ThinkPad T420 laptop?
yes you can use it in the T420. I currently have the 180 gigs version of the Intel 330 SSD in my T420.
However, if you have the 320 gigs hdd, you may need to get a different rubber rail, which costs like 5 dollars on ebay (you can get those 1 dollar one if you are so inclined).
by the way.. First Post..
