Cooling Mattress Toppers and Blankets - Any Good?

I keep seeing ads for various cooling mattress toppers and blankets. If they work that would be great in summer but I’m skeptical. They all seem to be made from foams and synthetics, which in my experience trap heat. Has anyone tried any of these products? What has your experience been? Any brand recommendations?

TIA

id be skeptical af too - worst case maybe try to get it via amazon prime and return if it doesnt meet expectations

    • That’s true - I never think of doing that.

    Ooler / 8sleep

Would be great if aliexp has cheap version of above.

    • Do you have these? Are they good?

I looked into Ooler before. There's quite a few videos and user feedback about the units needing frequent replacement parts and springing leaks.

It's a fairly high maintenance product and you should only buy it if you can be bothered sending it back and forth for repairs and replacements, and possibly having to deal with customer service that may or may not be very good.

I've used a memory foam one that was advertised as cooling. It's very warm in winter, so does trap heat. The other latex topper is much cooler, too cold in winter.

    • Thanks! That’s what I suspected.

The latex topper hasn't gone flat and compressed over time like the memory foam ones did either.

I have been considering the 8sleep. But I also want to move up in bed size from queen to king, but for that I need to move to a bigger apartment.

    It's a bit of a snowball.

8sleep seem to have been around for a while now and lately are spending money on youtube personalities to review/promote their products.

Just tell your wife she's looking a bit old.

It will be frigid all night :-)

    • I am the wife in this house 😄

We tried a couple a few years back, never had much luck them and the solution (for us) was simply to have less covers on top. So instead of a thick doona, just a sheet, or maybe a sheet and a blanket and then back to the doona for winter.

    • Yep, that’s my current choice, but I do love the feel of a quilt in terms of comfort.

I'm in the same boat as well and have a koala mattress which is foam and traps heat like anything.. 8sleep is the best option but is way too costly plus have a subscription model which makes it even more costlier.. I've just got a 'cooling' mattress topper from Aldi today and will try it out for next few days.. will update here on how it is to help fellow ozb!!

    • Awesome - will be great to hear your feedback.

    • 2 nights in.. and I don't feel the 'coolness' from topper.. please bear in mind that it was 30-35 degree days.

There is an Australian version here https://kivawellness.com.au/collections/circadian-sleep-pod it has work d very well for me, simple function. Choose your temp and it’s cold all night

    • I can't find too much info on this one, have you got any links to reviews for it? And have you had any issues with yours since?

Same here, I'm very interested. Have multiple Chilisleep (now Sleep.me) Oolers and whilst problematic, cannot sleep without them. Replacement pads cost the bomb so a local option would be great pending favourable reviews.

I just want a unit that you can set the temp and it stays at that all night, all this other fluff is not needed. The subscription model is particularly vile IMO.

  • I am looking at maybe the following yes it is for pets but maybe suitable for humans especially the low cost?
