@WookieMonster, Just to clarify, where can this one be used? Online, in-store? Does it have a Card Number, CVV etc?

    • Although I'm no match to WM, if you get the digital version (saving on delivery fees + helping the environment), you can add the card to GPAY Wallet or Apple Pay and tap in-store. TCN app is required. Note that I've added the list of participating restaurants in the description as well :-)

    • For the digital version you essentially get a restricted prepaid MasterCard that you can use online and can be added to google/apple pay. From my testing, yes you can use at any restaurant (MCC 5812), not just what is listed. For me it did not work for fast food (MCC 5814).

The physical Good Food gift cards operate on the eftpos network, and I do not know of a way to exchange it for a digital gift card. That means you have to physically swipe it on an EFTPOS terminal, which means it is only redeemable instore at merchants who accept swipe payments on the eftpos network. If you go to a merchant using Square EFTPOS terminals, they cannot accept physical Good Food gift cards, because Square believes that accepting swipe payments for eftpos network payments is too risky. I am also not entirely sure where you can actually redeem a physical Good Food gift card, because it could be actually restricted to the participating restaurants listed on the Good Food website, but it could only be restricted to merchants using MCCs 5812 or 5813.

For the digital Good Food gift cards, refer to the other replies to your comment!

      • aargh, looks like too many scams happening with Prepaid cards…accordingly with these restrictions increasing day by day, I wonder what the gift card market will look like in 2-3 years time!

To be fair, swiping is not a very secure method of presenting a card to an EFTPOS terminal, particularly when you remember card skimming is a thing.

Square was relatively late to the party in supporting the eftpos network on their EFTPOS terminals, so when they finally implemented support for that around 2016, it was at a time where contactless was already a very popular way to present a card in Australia. My guess is that Square thought it would mean that if they did not support swiping an eftpos card, very few people would complain…

my experience with this digital card back in May to Jul 2023

CAN'T be used 5814 fast food e.g. sushi hub, kfc, maccas, Menulog App

CAN be used in 5812 regular restaurant that have their terminal set to 5812 e.g. Guzman, most restaurants & cafes, can be used on Eat Club App

Find the digital version to be pretty good. Thanks OP.

I feel like this should get more love. There's a few cards like this, Good Food, Restaurant Choice and some other TCN restaurant work that work in most restaurants and bars if you get the digital version

The discounted gift card page is completely inaccurate for these, it feels like they must have scrapped a lot of their discounts. Used to get good ones on Restaurant Choice but recently I had to settle for 3% discount

    10% I've loaded up

    • Thanks, cheers mate!

    • ya it's a good deal… only downside is no fast food or bakeries compared to Digital TCN Rest and Digital Choice

too bad for others they can miss out more for us :)

  • Looks like the 15% and 20% won't be back

  • Any tips on how to finish off odd balance on one of these cards?

Unfortunately, with closed loop cards like this one, you'll still have to use it at one of the participating restaurants. I might suggest:

      1. Check ahead if that restaurant accepts split tender (e.g Gift card + debit/credit card or + cash). You may also buy another card and then use balance of 1st card then 2nd card on your next visit.
      2. Try to exchange the balance of the gift card on OzB or another forum.

Other than asking the restaurant for split payment, I use another way which is a bit fiddly.
I add these cards into Shopback and purchase the Shopback Foodie Swap card. I split the payment between my prepared Shopback balance and the card so that the card gets to $0. You can also use this same trick when using Shopback Pay in-store.

The Good food card will only work with the above gift card. But other restaurant cards like Restaurant Choice and TCN Restaurant will also work with Ubereats gift cards (MCC 5814). Refer to the MCC list for Shopback

    • Thanks guys for the suggestions

  • I just tried it in a cafe that I used to regularly successfully use my Restaurant Choice cards, it was declined :(
