Subminimal NanoFoamer Milk Frother Lithium $69, V1 $29.90, V2 $49.90 + $9.95 Delivery ($0 BNE C&C) @ Alternative Brewing

Over glorified lithium powered milk foamer for those who are serious about coffee but don't have a barista coffee machine at work or elsewhere. The variant in the title is the USB-C rechargable, but I've also linked below the battery operated model. I've never used this one in particular, but I have used the cheap milk frother, but they tend to produce more frothy milk.

I emailed Althernative Brewing for a price match on this item at another site, which works out to be cheaper if you only buy this as they have a flat rate for shipping, whilst other site had free delivery for orders over $85 or $11 shipping.

I got one on AliExpress for $3.
Works a treat, like the Ikea one.
Only issue is can't use it on a full cup, I guess that would be the same issue with this one so why pay 20x the price for this?

    • My AliExpress one was complete trash. Incredibly weak performance and build quality was terrible, especially for something that's getting wet. Can you link yours?

    • Because you can use it on a full cup?

      • Nope, in the video on the product page the guy even says "and when the milk rises up the side of the jug…", it's no different to how the level rises in the cup the faster you stir it with a teaspoon. Its not a product fault, its just science.

    • Its a lot more effective at creating the proper micro-bubbles in the milk without over-frothing it like the cheaper frothers, the mesh screen in the nanofoamer makes a big difference. Now I haven't used a cheap frother in a long long time so I'm sure with enough practice and the right angle you might be able to roll the milk properly but with the nanofoamer its a lot more easier considering they're more powerful, and the nature of how it adds air into the milk is different (it pushes milk through the mesh screen, rather than spinning it around like a blender).

I've got milk texture from a nanofoamer just as good as a proper steamer, even with plant based milks. But yes it is a little annoying to microwave the milk, pour it into a metal steaming mug, and try to foam it fast before it cools down too much.

      • Bentley.

      • I was expecting different ASMR for a car, but whatever :D

    no.

  • I got my v2 a while ago to take to work to make coffee for the boys at night. Microwaving milk and nanofoaming in a small disposable paper cup isn't ideal. I wonder if subminimal jug and foamer 2 in 1 would be better but that didn't exist when I got it.

Not really the same as steamed milk IMO

How much better is this an than the IKEA Milk Frother for $2.50?

    • For one, it must last 28 times longer
For two, its Li Ion so probably heats the milk as well, (just before the house)

  • I don’t think it does much of a job of making actual latte milk. Just get the IKEA one. I unfortunately funded the kickstarter.

I use the $2.50 ikea one to make Frappe and Dalgona style coffee. Can someone explain the benefit of this foamer?

    • +2

The ikea ones are very weak.
Try this one its about 5x more powerful. Its amazing

      • does this heat up the milk - some comments says it does but the description says you need to heat up milk beforehand

"Heat up the milk, immerse the milk frother handheld into the cup and turn it on clicking the power button on top. Just a moment later you will get froth and creamy foam. The milk frother is powered by two AA batteries(not included). The low noise motor barely makes a sound"

It seems to make it like you would get out of a steam wand on espresso machine based on this video.
I've used the Ikea one and it is nothing like I get out of my espresso machine.

      • Yes its great at creating the micro-bubbles like a proper espresso machine. Took a bit of practice for me to get it down though, need to angle it correctly and roll the milk just like a steam wand.

    • I've been using a $1 Kmart one for 5 years. Takes two AA batteries, can't fault it. The only time it struggles is when the batteries are running low. Unfortunatley they don't sell them anymore.

  • Ikea one wiry Ladda, I bought it last week but haven't used it. It's super fast, I bet it'll froth the hell out.

  • is this any good instead?

    • It's not bad for the price.
It leaves a thick layer you need to clean on the bottom. It also doesn't heat the milk enough for my taste

I have the lithium one, use it when I go camping or travel. The foam is comparable to an entry level ($150~$300) delonghi/breville coffee machine. It only works if you follow their instructions, or else the foam comes out like detergent (same if you steam your milk wrong with a machine). I can do latte art with the milk frothed with this stick. The cheap ones can't make micro foam like the subminimal ones.

  • can anyone confirm this actually heats the milk too?

    • +1

      It doesn't heat milk.

  • Be cautious dealing with this business.

They recently advertised free shipping for orders over $200, held my $3,000 for 5 days and then emailed me demanding an extra $250 for shipping because I live in Darwin.

They won't provide a phone number, and take 24 hours to reply to emails.

They did this to me in 2021 aswell when they advertised flat rate shipping.
