Shift issues on all Borderlands Games?

Hi everyone.

My mates and I are looking to get some co-op borderlands going on PC.

Unfortunately we cannot join each other - says we go offline (icon changes to the one with the red cross).

We have searched and applied all recommendations from several forums etc.

Wondering if anyone has experienced this and has a fix here?

Could it be an issue with Shift?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

I played on xbox series x while my brother played on pc. The crossplay is flakey at best - it would drop out wvery 30mins or something like that.

Either of you playing through a vpn?
