Purchasing MacBook from Kogan - Australian Stock or Import?

I'm buying a Macbook M2 15in for my partner and I'm considering getting it from Kogan. They have 10x Qantas points promo going and it's easier than messing around with gift cards.

Someone warned me that Kogan has - in the past - sold imported Asian stock which impacts manufacturer warranty. I can't see anything on the website about whether this is imported stock or not, so I assume it's fine.

Another question, having not purchased an Apple product since the original iPod, can I take it to Apple Store for any support issues?

It may not even be sold by Kogan. Is it a Kogan marketplace item sold by a third party? If so who knows what the origin is. Would need to check with the third party. Personally I'm only interested in buying more expensive Apple products at the Apple Store.

It should say international model or something along the lines if it's grey stock. If it's Au stock yes you can go to Apple for warranty It's basically what Officeworks, JB, HN do..

You could post the link of the one your interested buying

I would pay the full price just to not have to deal with Kogan

Also, Jimothy, what a reference. One of my favourite The Office gags

      • Been a member since 2019 and you have not seen the issues with Kogan support over the years….

Lucky partner. Any chance you want to leave them and buy me a M2 MacBook?

Her parents bought us a house. Can you match that?

Any chance she can leave you then so I can own a house with her…

  • Clicking on “Warranties & returns” on a MacBook. (Not necessarily your version) it shows “This product is sold by a third-party seller and they are responsible for their product, the content of their listing and any exchanges of return of their product.
All products sold by third-parties are subject to the Kogan Guarantee. For more details click here.”

  • If you go through any kogan posts here or whirlpool, or on google for that matter, Kogan isn't the favourite place to shop to say the least.

For something that of that value I'd 100% look for alternatives

From my experiences at work - stuff bought overseas sometimes Apple store only gives it the 12 month 'warranty' rather than the in practice accepted 24 month 'Australian warranty'. But they will support it directly - I wouldn't take it back to Kogan if there issues down the track (but if there were issues upon delivery you'd be screwed). Just buy some Apple Care.

and it's easier than messing around with gift cards

You don't want to mess around with gift cards, but you want to mess around with Kogan?

If you insist on a Macbook, buy if from Apple directly. The end.

Don't buy from Kogan for such an expensive item.
You're just asking for trouble when something goes wrong.

Can't believe that with all of the negative posts about Kogan people are still prepared to buy from them.

    I'm buying a Macbook M2 15in

I would NEVER purchase anything that expensive from Kogan, regardless of the 'Savings' - I only ever purchase things from Kogan that are like under $10, that way if something goes wrong (and you come to expect that with Kogan and their 'top-notch' service) you can cut your losses and move on…

I learned my lesson the hard way almost 2 years ago….. What I didn't add (until now) is that I opened up a PayPal dispute, PayPal sided with me and I got my money back and got to keep the chair, but I take that situation with a grain of salt and a momentary bit of luck given how long it took and the rigmarole I went through.

aaaaand that wasn't enough of a red flag for you, OP?
Also, just a friendly suggestion for you OP, Never Assume Anything…. especially when it comes to Kogan…

OP, if for some unknown reason after reading the comments on this thread (and related Kogan nightmare story related threads) you still choose to purchase the Macbook M2 from Kogan then I wish you the best of luck, because you WILL need it!

  • Alright, thanks everyone. Per your advice I'll not be using Kogan, and I'll pay the Apple tax and purchase directly from them. This way they can upsell me stupidly overpriced headphones and computer mouse. Is my distaste for Apple coming through?
