Quest 2 - Top Games/Apps for Optimal VR Experience Sharing

Hey all, with the latest hype around Quest 3, ive dusted off the Quest 2 and given its been a year or so… i'm curious which apps and games are out there now.

I quite enjoy sharing the VR experience with others who may not have tried it yet; so i'm keen to hear any recommendations for games that are easy for others to pickup and play.

Ive attached my current library, apologies as I couldnt see the easiest way to share just a plain list…

  • Well, it's not exactly a quick pickup and play game, but I think "After the fall" is a good multiplayer zombie survival game if any of your friends end up getting quests. You can have a squad of 4 people linked remotely. You can also place AI characters inside your squad, or connect to others in a lobby. It also has teleport mode to help prevent motion issues. It is crossplay with the PS5 PSVR2 version of the game also.

Also a tip, like any Oculus games if you read through the reviews for the game in the oculus store you can usually find referral codes for 25% off. There is no reason to be paying full price for oculus games anymore.

  • Do we have a Quest games referral code system on OzB?

Planning on getting Beat Saber, Virtual Desktop, Skybox.

If anyone has a referral link, feel free to PM me.

Walkabout Mini Golf VR is incredible. Even if mini golf isn't your thing, this game is incredible. Highly recommended

    • Yeh Ive nabbed that one, don't think I've tried it yet. But I found table tennis VR pretty realistic too

Realised I uploaded my recents list instead of full catalogue (updated pic now)

The best for showing others I mostly still go with Pistol Whip or Superhot - even though they have been out for years they are quick to get into, and are fun quickly.

My favourite of the past year are Red Matter 2 and I Expect You To Die 3, but I'm very partial to puzzle / escape roomish games.

    • Yeh I enjoyed superhot the first time I played it at a friend's house. And pistolwhip felt pretty natural, and similar between superhot and beatsaber. I don't mind the basic shooters too, stuff that's not crazy motion

Not exactly a game to pass off to another player, but it’s a multiplayer game with VR vs. those around you for a local multiplayer experience.

Takelings House Party was amazing playing with a bunch of friends! Involves everyone! https://takelings.com/

  • I’m thinking of getting the quest 3 for daughters Xmas, been watching you tube vids and seems quest 3 is better all round apart from it’s price and worst part only 128gb and 512gb. Where are quest 2 had one in between.

It’s also mentioned these games can soon add up in gb and more and more games will get bigger more so the power of day quest 3.
People say you can delete them but once you delete them are they lost or stored somewhere to use again?
What are prices of games I have no idea? I believe there is some free games and ones to try but what is average costs?
Also I believe there is a subscription what does this cost per month or year?

I’m also lead to believe that if you have games pass on Xbox you can use this from September it seems there is an app third part that allows you to do it now but official one available december.
Does it work on Xbox one as don’t have the Xbox x.

It’s mentioned on here cheaper games with referral is this still active?

My daughter is 11 yrs old has has mentioned of a vr set in past recently and I’m tempted to get the quest 2 but the 3 has the edge by what I see and I think can’t remember what it’s called this other type of reality where game is within there own world.
The quest 2 is I believe 3 years old now but got very very popular during covid as being locked inside and lack of stocks of ps5 and Xbox x.
So the quest 2 was a big seller and they reckon it will be here for a few years yet.
Where as first one got killed off quickly due to the release of 2 so soon after and it’s popularity and otter reasons.

But I have compared the quest 3 vs 2 and on what’s I see quest 3 wins, me personally if got myself I always want the best so quest 3 would be my pick and more likely the 500gb edition.
But this ain’t for me and I’m sure the quest 2 has poor the reality where it’s within your own world ie surrounds, which i am sure would appeal to my daughter.
Sometimes it’s always better getting the new and best tech but price??

I’m hoping to see a deal on Black Friday for quest 2 and 3 your thoughts?

After seeing this myself I’m tempted to own one myself but not at this time, but it is something daughter has mentioned she would love and would be a great surprise, she talks about wanting silly stuff stuff I reckon she is getting to old for and stuff that will only clutter up her room.

But I feel she will love a be set but it is pricey.

    • G'day, I made a general comparison comment below, but I will answers some of your specific questions here:
Games are in the library forever for you to install or uninstall at your leisure.
      Cost of games:
Quest2 Games prior to Q3 release had a maximum cost of $50 AUD.
Quest3 games have raised that limit. (I don't know the new max but keep in mind the AUD is low at the time of the Q3 release). I think $55 or $60 might be the highest I have seen so far.
Pro Tip 1: Don't pay full price for a game. Get a referral code for $25% off. Or wait for a weekly deal, or wait for META30 Off deal.
There are plenty of free games in the App Lab and some of them are good and some will give you VR motion sickness if you don't have your VR motion legs
yet. Ill link that in a sec. edit: https://sidequestvr.com/apps/applab/1/rating not the link i was looking for but seems close enough.
      Pro Tip 2:
Every game in the Meta VR Store is an amazing experience. All decent, working games get at least 4 stars. I don't recommend buying anything below 4 stars - it is likely to be a buggy mess. Possibly reset you game expectations to be 4.0 to 5.0 == 0 - 5 stars. Assuming you are good with the genre of the game, anything 4.4 or higher is going to be money well spent.

The Subscription: I have mixed emotions for this. I have had the Q2 since launch and bought all the 'good' games, so I don't see any benefits for me to have the subscription. On the flip side for you, this would be the one reason to get a 500GB model. You get access to solid games every month for 6 months included in the buy price. At the end of the 6 months work out if it is worth keeping the subscription or buying just the games you love. Any games you have 'completed' there is no need to buy. Or decide to keep the subscription. The choice is yours.

      Black Friday:
Quest2s are pretty cheap now. I have a mate with a Q2 who is hoping for a Black Friday deal to pick up a cheap(er) Q3.

      Pricey:
Price is a relative thing. Pretty much every flagship mobile phone costs 2x more than the Q3 but I consider the Q3 to be a much better device. Who am i kidding a Q2 at $500 is better than having the latest phone and a 1/3 of the price. A good gaming computer (buy my standards) is $4k. A PS5 is about the same price as a Q3 at $800. But VR gaming is crazily better than pancake gaming - so much so that I don't bother adding the free steam or epic games anymore. I will never play them as they are not VR. * Not counting for people that are susceptible to motion sickness.

      Headstrap:
Regardless if you get a Q2 or a Q3 you will be looking to buy an aftermarket head strap for more comfort and possibly for more battery life. Check out the Bovovr stuff and similar on youtube.

  • @OP Something not on your list that I keep coming back to play is Guardians Frontline for Coop FPS fun.

@bwatt72 I have both Q2 and Q3 so ask me what ever you would like to know.
    Q3 has much better passthrough.
Q3 plays more games at 120Hz which drains battery faster than a Q2. However same games at 120Hz on a Quest2 gets similar battery life.
    Q3 has better IPD adjustment.
    Q3 has a higher resolution
Q3 has better lenses, and a bigger sweet spot
I find Q3 is a more comfortable VR experience than the Q2. (because of the 4 dot points above).
If you have fast internet 500GB is cool but not required. Just uninstall games you are not playing atm. Install them when u want to play them. They live in the library.
