Looking for a good Smartphone under $200 (unlocked)

I am looking for a Smartphone under $200, and find the options too confusing. I haven't owned a smartphone before.

Looked on the thinkofus.com.au website for ideas, but am not tied to buying from them. I just need one that is unlocked (or cheaply unlockable) as I have a TPG contract.

Does anyone have a suggestion?
Some examples: HTC Explorer, HTC Wildfire S, HTC Desire C, nokia C5-03, Huawei U8800, Nokia Lumia 610, Nokia Lumia 710

    These would be good choices, the xperia u is locked though.

      Being a Telstra prepaid I would highly doubt it would support 900MHz 3G - not ideal.

    Something on Optus prepaid should be OK. You'll want something that has 900MHz 3G support.

    Eh, depends what you're defining as a 'good' smartphone. There's plenty of smartphones under $200, but 'good'…

    I've been looking for my mother for a few months now, and nothing particularly stands out as being excellent. IMO, you'd be better of spending a bit more ($100, $200), and getting a GNexus or a Galaxy S2. That being said, I don't know how flexible your budget is (or whether your need a higher-end smartphone), so you could still find a decent phone for around your price.
    Just a note: the HTC One V would probably be better than the HTC devices you listed above; more updated, and I'm given to believe it has better build quality.

    The Huawei Ascend G300 looks good for $169 @ Dick Smith (1 GHz processor, 4" screen). Its locked to voda but you can buy an unlock code for about AUD $8.

    Htc one v for under 200? Where from? The cheapest one listed here lately was 219 from kogan I think…

    No idea about the seller but seems legit. Thinking of getting one for myself. Would like a bigger screen but for the price I've not yet found anything better. Anyone agree/disagree?
