    SAVE $220.00

Incorrect, it should say save $20

    Your normal price is $149

Seems like this is not the first time you tried to fool us…

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/80747

  • I think it's actually a really good price based on a quick search. I agree that the "savings" wording could be done better. Perhaps mentioning RRP and what they normally sell it for and what the special price is.

I didn't find a better price, only some much worse ones.

    • +2

      Perhaps mentioning RRP

Why? when RRP is a fictitious price? It's actually illegal to advertise the RRP when it's not your normal selling price.

All they should mention is their normal price and how much it is discounted for and for how long.

      • I agree, RRP prices are generally crap. What I was trying to say was that it doesn't really matter that they mention it providing that the savings that they mention are from their normal selling price (because that's the important thing) rather than from RRP. They could also provide a couple of competitors prices to demonstrate that this is really a bargain. And yes, they would be silly to post comparisons to competitors that were not the most competitive, else we know they will get crucified here.

it doesn't really matter that they mention it

it actally does, it's illegal to do so…

          http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/815334

The only reason to do so whould be to mislead a buyer into thinking they are saving more than they really would be…

What they should do is post a comparison price of the cheapese price elsewhere you could find it, therefore justifying that their price is really a bargain…

          Interesting link, thanks.

          The relevant part is :
"Comparisons with the recommended retail price (RRP)
Advertising or promotions of 'savings' or 'discounts' on the RRP of goods and services are designed to convince you that you are getting a good deal because the price is less than the RRP.

If traders do not normally price their goods at the RRP, it may be misleading to give you the impression that they do."

So just mentioning RRP doesn't appear to be illegal, it's only if they try to use that to demonstrate the "savings". So mentioning all three like I said above should be no problem.

It "may be misleading" sounds a little different to definitely illegal but that's close enough for me. I'm going to revoke my vote, not because their price isn't great but because their comparison (as listed) was bogus.

it's only if they try to use that to demonstrate the "savings".

as was done in the title of this thread…

in almost all cases, there would not be any reason to mention RRP other than to mislead…

        • "in almost all cases, there would not be any reason to mention RRP other than to mislead…"

Without at least mentioning their normal sales price also, I would agree.

It's a shame if its really a good price but the business has decided to lie and deceive to generate more sales. Disgusting behavior imo. References and saving calculations to RRP's should be banned, its just BS.

  • -2

Come back when you have an actual deal.

    • Did you check and find a better price?

Just because they have been naughty with the wording doesn't make this not a deal.

  • +3

Incorrect, it should say save $20

  • +2

Apart from whats already mentioned, in what universe would a $349 raquet be good for a beginner?!

  • so if I want a nice racquet that's currently going for a bargain price (say < $150) what's your recommendations?

  • +2

Misleading title. Can't trust RRP's nowadays. Hardly normal's the usual culprit.

OP needs to lift their game.
Just be honest next time cos it's a good price.

    +ve purely on cheapest around.

  • +2

Despite the incorrect savings, this is still a really good price. One of the cheapest tennis stores online has it going for $249 in the US:

    http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Wilson_BLX_Stratus_Three/des…

  • Not sure why everyone has such a big deal with pricing going up and down. Just look at Woolworths or Coles, Up and Go's are around $4 for a 3 pack mostly, but come down to $2.50 quite often. Are you trying to tell me that when it comes down to $2 a pack, that isnt a deal?? Same as this offer in my eyes. Plus, the fact is, its the cheapest place to buy this particular product locally. What more do people want?

    • You've missed the point. Yes it is a really good price. It is $20 less than what this company was selling it for. That's what they should have stated (and perhaps how much cheaper than their major competitors they are), not how much below RRP they are. How did you read all these comments and miss the point?

    Hi All,
Firstly I would like to apologise for misleading anyone with the above post. I am new to Ozbargain and am now aware that stating the savings off the RRP of a product is not the right way to go about it. It does not change the fact that this is actually a good deal and I wanted to share it with Ozbargainers. I will ensure all future posts do not come across as being deceptive.
    Regards,

    • Users on Ozbargain are (obviously) very savvy on pricing and generally aren't afraid to criticise deals, which makes this such a popular site. However if you have a really good and straightforward deal, you'll get a lot of positive attention here.
Good luck hope you can give us some big savings next time around.
