Does This 2019 Mazda CX-5 Akera Have a Turbo?

I have my eye on a used 2019 Mazda CX-5 Akera, the car doesn't have a "Turbo" badge.

But I found an invoice from Mazda dealership in the logbook, it shows "19/MAZDA/CX-5 H AKERA 2.5L PETROL TURBO A" under year/make/model.

So does this car have a turbo or not? How can I check?

Cheers

Doesn't Google work at your place?

Do you know what a turbo charger looks like? If you open the bonnet you probably will be able to see at least part of it.

You haven't shared enough information to determine if that particular vehicle has a turbo. But you can easily check under the bonnet to see if the car has a turbo.

This is what a turbo looks like: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/uploads/gallery/1254342109/galler…

Look under the bonnet OP. Is there a snail looking thing under there? Is so then it has turbo

Like this one. See those two big snail looking things on the right? This car has two turbos:

Your car being newer needs to have at least 3 or 4 of them or else the dealer ripped you off on the service

does it make a Vvvv Tishhh sound when you let go of the accelerator. ???

The turbo on this model is in the boot under the spare tyre. The turbo badge is in the glove box, next to the silent kangaroo deterrent module.

The weights are also different which may be on the rego papers.

Why did Mazda put two cupholders on the engine cover? 😋

      • +2

1 for driver, one for passenger.

      Nope.
      I can't see the turbo badge,either

The turbo has the flexible conduit coming out of the engine cover to the left of the skyactive badge as in the photo, the non turbo does not. Also the air intake hose goes from the air filter box around to the rear of the engine where the turbo is. Photo is definately a turbo.

What was the invoice for? The car or for a service?

The later could just be a 'generic' line entry covering off services for that range.

    https://www.drive.com.au/news/2019-mazda-cx-5-turbo/
Says it's possible for it to have a turbo and also to not be a turbo variant as well.
"The top-spec GT and Akera variants are now offered with the SkyActiv-G 2.5-litre turbo petrol engine from the larger CX-9 and mid-sized Mazda 6, putting out 170kW of power and 420Nm of torque. It commands a $2500 premium on the atmo petrol engine. Both the naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre petrol and 2.2-litre twin-turbo diesel are still available."

    • That's why I made this post

    • Correct. That is the situation for that model. Both a non-turbo 2.5 litre petrol engine and a turbo 2.5 litre petrol engine were available. The turbo engine is referred as the SkyActiv-G engine. I'd expect there would be a badge or a label on the engine cover saying that if that's what it is.

They only started putting "turbo" badges on recently. I have a 2020 Cx-5 turbo and there is no badge.

This is a picture of the non-turbo engine bay, considering the different pipework and (subtly) different cover, I'd guess to have the turbo version.

edit: Also note the similar pipework in this (badged) Turbo engine from 2022

Im gonna go with yes, it has a turbo. Based on the pic supplied above and internet search of CX5 engine bay from 2019. It appears the non turbo air intake goes east west in the engine bay, ie directly across from the air box to the front of the motor the turbo intake comes out of the air box and goes backwards in the engine bay and also appears to have a pipe leading forward alongside the air intake to where an inter cooler would be.

(It’s what I think, but I can’t see much from a couple of photos, and the photos on the internet may not be accurate)

  • put the rego into supercheap auto, should figure out what engine its got

    • Got both variants

      • true just checked

car doesn't have a "Turbo" badge.

Heaps of modern cars have turbos and no turbo badge.

If your Mazda has one it will be tiny. It's not added to make it a sports car but to add a bit of life to a very dull engine and often improve fuel economy figures.

There will also be an intercooler (looks like another radiator but long and thick by comparison). That might be easier to spot by looking into the front grill or inlet vents.

Run the VIN through a $2 PPSR - that may spit out the correct engine variant.

This. They used to add turbo badges to car because a turbo was rare and it meant the car was fast. Now a turbo can be on pretty much anything they don’t need to advertise ‘turbo’ for it being fast, but they’ll add other eco friendly terms. Ecoboost on fords. Bluemotion on VWs, sky active on Mazda etc because car buyers will often want to believe the car is efficient.

Once you find out buy a turbo badge for the car. That way you'll never forget, and other ppl will know straight away.
    Restore order.

  • +1

It's on the p plate approved list so even if it has a turbo it won't be that fast.

Ppsr with the vin will give you an engine code. Putting your vin into the Mazda recall checker will also give you the exact variant.

Badge only applied in 2021 onwards.

  • Garrett or GTFO.

Get get the VIN - call Mazda - they'll tell you

  • Does it make choo-choo-choo noises?

  • What was the conclusion OP?
