Somehow I feel this is how they rope you in for life after you've uploaded tons of stuff. Your Gmail inbox won't be able to receive anymore e-mails when its full after cancellation.

    • Of course it is… Why else.. better off buying an old pixel4a5g like I did and nearby share your photos if you are ok with standard quality pics

      • +1

Or get an OG pixel and upload in original quality.

        • This is the way. Unlimited 4K videos baby

    • +1

That’s all it is. It’s not a deal at all.

      • +2

Not sure why you're getting negged. How is this a deal? Like for people who are renting hard drives?

    • C'mon man even Apple has realised the software and subscription based approach is where the real money lies. The point of Pixel and actually every device they market is to sell more software (or create value through software).

    • +1

pixel 1 gang unlimited full quality photo storage for life

      or spoof your rooted device

    • Why not sign up using an alternate email address? After your trial ends, you can still access all 2 TB files from anywhere in the world.

      • But can you - can't add/edit and limited functinoality hmm.
wouldn't be bad to backup my FLAC flies perhaps

The idea is to integrate with your gmail account, storage, photos, drive etc.

        • I uploaded all my movies to my 30TB account and after they canceled the plan I could still watch them on my phone and PC. I don't need to edit them. You know it's free and there's nothing to complain about.

          • @jimojr: Digital hoarder!
Good for you, nice if you ever want to watch them (which probably won't if you've got streaming). Just deleted mine, 720p looks rubbish these days, 4k Bluray rips are pretty huge as you mentioned (and most wouldn't have Dolby Atmos now anyway).

I've already got google one so may not be able to trial it anyway, my pixel 8 connected to main account.

  • What happened after six months? Delete the content?

    • Content stays on the cloud - same as iCloud, useful for those who bought the 128GB model and fill up storage fast enough to require cloud storage and don't want to carry around a USB-C storage stick

      • So do you mean your storage limit will revert to 0GB of 15GB after the trail finishes if you don't continue but all your uploaded content will be up there but not included/counted?

I'm reading the terms and to me it appears not… Won't work for me if so…. Back to the trusty pixel 4

        • If you cancel your storage plan, or when your storage plan expires, your storage limits will reset to the data levels available for each product at the end of your billing cycle.

Everything in Google Drive, Google Photos and Gmail will still be accessible, but you won't be able to create or add anything new over the storage limit. If you reach or exceed the storage limit:

Google Photos: You can't back up any photos or videos. If you want to add more photos and videos, you can clean up your Google storage space or buy more Google storage.

          • @koalafied: So, if I read this right, the correct way to use this deal is to create a new Google account, and fill it up to whatever you want (up to 2TB) in the first 6 months. Post that, the content stays available but we cant upload anything more, and not send/receive any emails (which we wouldn't want anyway).

Otherwise such "trials" of cloud storage services don't make much sense as after the trial, you would need to keep paying a huge cost to maintain that level of storage.

            • @djoz: Correct. To continue the 2TB plan it costs $12.49/month which imo is good value for money. You get a free VPN by Google, average VPN costs $9-10/m, phone & chat support, dark web monitoring, enhanced editing features in Google Photos, and 10% back in Google Store credit on Pixel phones, Nest smart home devices, and other products.

Apple will offer similar benefits in 2050.

              • @koalafied: Wouldn't buy it for the VPN. You can always get Nord VPN and others for 97% cashback.

I'm paying for 100gb, never haven't gone over 60% full yet still. Free 15gb isn't enough these days.

Anyway the trial is pointless unless you are going to buy 2tb after anyway, just saves 6 months of payments.

Google 8 also come with Fitbit premium for 6 months (but already used that with the Fitbit device, go figure. Not needed anyway standard is fine).

                • @G-rig: Well You could on a new account upload 2tb of content that doesn't change that you want to backup long term/forever, let the plan lapse it will stay there but you won't be able to add to it but google isn't going to delete it.

                  • @denserham: Hmm could try it on a different Gmail account.
                    Free data for them lol

                    • @G-rig: Use Cryptomator to upload and they will have no idea what you uploaded.

                      • @denserham: Nice tip. I'd just treat it as an online backup and leave it.
PS noticed turkey offers a 3 month trial not 6.

                        • @G-rig: Mine somehow got 6mo free trial followed by 49.99 TRY/mo (2tb plan).

  • Can not see GIFTBOX screen, pixel 8 & never used google one before

    • After you log in to your Google account you'll see the giftbox pop up, tap Join and follow the prompts.

If you don't see it, try update the app to the latest version and/or go to app settings and clear cache for the app.
