Is Nokia Fast Mile Enough for Belong or Telstra 5g Data Only Plan?

I got belong 5g data only plan to work now. Currently sitting in my iPhone 12. Is Nokia fast mile enough to use with it? I noticed fastmile only has n78 band support whatever it means.

  • yep I have one with a telstra sim and get over 300mb,,,, Not sure that belong will do 5g though

  • +1

I am using Belong $19 mobile plan + Nokia Fastmile 3.2 for past few months
The speed is pretty okay, I got 2/4 bars of signal on my phone (Z Flip 5) and 1 dot of signal on Fastmile.
The speed test is around 156mbps DL / 35 mbps UL which is a few times higher than hotspot from my phone.
Was able to use it for xbox cloud and geforce now, feels pretty responsive.

For the plan, I recommend to stay on $19 mobile plan so that the data is rolling over between recharges, the data plan won't roll over the data, then you can buy extra on ebay pretty cheap, around $40/700GB.

To further saving the running cost, I recommend to stock up on $45 starter pack which is on sale for $22.
Then just activate it with referral code for extra $20 credit. Then you can change the plan to $19.
This should help keeps the sim activated for 3 months ($2 more is needed)

Then just buy extra data on ebay when you need it

Overall, pretty happy with it, however, there is a few hiccups:
    - Vodafone sim will be locked to maximum of 50mpbs, I tried Amaysim, Optus, Telstra, Belong, and only Vodafone is locked the speed.
    - If you encounter network error when using some office softwares (which is happen when i use MS Access) then you will need to turn off IPV6 (IPv4 only). The UI of its admin page is pretty decent and matured when comparing to other 5G Modem on market.

    • Wow that’s the ozbargain spirit. How many g you get from $19 mobile plan? I saw the cheapest is $29 for 25g on website? Mine is $70 for 400g data plan. I probably need more than that. Also I saw there is a 150mbps cap on lower mobile plan. On data plan is 250mbps. also where is the $40 for 700g? did you mean $70 for 400g?

You only get 5GB for the $19 mobile plan, I only use this plan to keep the data between recharge. Then if I need extra data, I will buy it on ebay, there are a lot of stores that sell $40-$45 for 700GB of data which is much cheaper than the $70 plan.
The store will then gift you the data to the nominated mobile number.
If you need more than that or just too lazy to top up every month then just buy in bulk, the last time I just bought around 2.1TB and just leave it there.

One important thing is that mobile plan can roll over data while data plan won't roll over data, they will reset your data every month, hence I recommend the $19 mobile plan instead of $15 data plan.

And yes, the speed cap is 150 mbps. But you need to consider your use cases as higher speed cap won't translate into lower latency and 100mpbs is already overkill for Netflix 4k

    • Where is the $19 mobile plan? I can only see $29

  • I’m using Belong with my Nokia Fastmile. I have 5G in my area and get 20MB/s down which is awesome, but only 0.5MB/s up. I’ve tried moving the modem so many places. Annoying as using the same SIM in my 4G iPhone or iPad is 10x faster upload at 5MB/s, but the Nokia modem won’t fall back to 4G even if it’s faster. I may have to switch to Vodafone as its tower has better line of sight.

  • I have gotten 700 Mbps on nokia fastmile on boost sim. So yes IMO (vodafone average is 130-300 Mbps)

  • Hey guys I am looking at getting a Belong 5G plan with Nokia Fast Mile router as the monthly cost is lower than getting a NBN connection. A few questions here on my side

    1. Should I go with phone plan or data plan (monthly)?
    2. Does Belong data plan roll over unused data every month? What if I get 500 gb data to add to my account, would unused data roll over to the next month?

    Cheers

      1. Depends on your monthly usage and if you want rollover.
      2. Data only plans do not rollover.
