iPhone 12 Mini Battery Health

Hi all,
I have an iPhone 12 Mini that I bought new 9 months ago, and realised today that the battery health of the phone is below 90%. I was honestly shocked, as the iPhone 6S+ that I had before is still at 84% battery health despite it being released 8! years ago. Is this reasonable degradation, or do you think I have grounds for a replaced battery?
Thanks

10% in less than a year is unusually high, but it does depend how you use it and cycle charging etc. My 5-year old iPhone X is only 83%.

Speak to Apple support and see what they say.

    • That's what I mean. I use it normally - as I said my other phone is at 84% after 8 years. I think it must just be a shit quality battery

      • iphone 6S Plus has a 2750 mah battery
iphone 12 mini has a 2227 mah battery
both have 1080p displays that are actually about the same size (6S+ 5.5in, 12 mini 5.4in), though the 12 is OLED

smaller battery —> recharge more frequently —> more charge cycles in similar length of time —> increased wear on battery, holds less charge —> recharge more frequently

        and so on
iphone 13 mini seems to get much better battery life than the 12

  • Apple will tell you it’s normal. Battery warranty is only 1 year and unless it goes below 80% in the first year they won’t replace.

My iPhone 14 Pro is about 87 after 13 months.

When it falls under 80 just pay for the battery replacement. It’s expensive but it will last another 2-3 years.

We just replaced iPhone 12 battery after 3 years.

  • My iPhone 12 Mini is at 84% after a bit over 2 years. However the decrease has slowed significantly, I was hoping to replace the battery with apple care+ but the wear slowed down significantly this year. It's also near impossible to tell what that percentage actually means and what normal wear is.

The 12 series did have seriously crap batteries too. It requires a lot more recharging than many other models of iPhones would need.

  • My iPhone 12 mini is running on 82% battery health after 22 months.

  • Hi OP.

I got my battery replaced under Apple Care+ when it was at 83% - the basic diagnostics said the battery was still in its serviceable life, but when they finally did 'extended' diagnostics they determined the battery was actually past it's serviceable life.

The battery on your unit seems to have degraded quite quickly, but that doesn't mean Apple will replace the battery/your phone.

I suggest getting the Apple support app, then open it >> tap your phone >> Device Performance >> Battery performance >> Check now. See what the results say

    • correction: I didn't have the battery replaced, I had an advanced replacement phone sent to me. They took a hold of ~$1000 on my CC until they received my faulty phone back.
