    Good watch but still expensive.

  • Anyone have experience with this and the galaxy watch 5 pro? I also have a galaxy phone. Mainly keen on sleep tracking and gps tracking. Should I stick with the Samsung ecosystem?

    • There is an App, Garmin Connect, for sync with the watch. You can download the app on your phone.

    • I have a garmin forerunner 425 music, and sleep tracking isn’t accurate. I mainly use it for gps tracking, duration, speed when I walk/cycle/swim. The app can show elevation as well which I didn’t know it did

The main things about my garmin watch
      - battery lasts about 6 days
      - screen almost no scatch without screen protector
      - no other watch app distraction
      - ability to receive notifications and answering calls is a bonus

I have the 245. Been great value for money. Mines survived being at work all day, probably 100 hours of steam rooms, 100 hours ocean swimming, 300 hours pool swimming. Still works fine, I'd go to rebel for ease of warranty exchange

I've never paid attention to the sleep tracking stuff, generally take it off anyways

    • I have the 255 music, absolutely love it. i sync my spotifiy playlist to it and then my airpods sync to the watch and i don't have to bring my phone with me while running. all the other functions are also pretty smooth

    • Not sure how good Galaxy is for sports. But my 245 has been great for running. The Connect app is good and works well. I don't wear mine every day, but get about 8 days of battery life, with 3 runs a week and constant heart rate tracking when I wear it. Still looks like new - it's well made.

My 245 insists my HR when running is sitting at between 170 - 180 for an hour, which probably means I'm on the verge of dying… (manual count is closer to 120).

        • How do you count your HR manually while running? :)
I have reached about 179 before at rare times, but it was about right. I usually get close to 170 or above towards the end of most runs. It's not necessarily bad to get that high, as for different people it can fluctuate differently. My resting heart rate is usually close to 50, or below.

          • @Make it so: How do you count your HR manually while running? - you stop and take pulse immediately. I'm pretty sure in the 15 or 30 seconds after stopping my heart rate hasnt gone down 60 BPM. Im in my mid 50s, if my heart rate is 180 for an entire hour (given that my rough 'max HR' is meant to be 165 BPM using the 210 - age formula, which I know isnt exact but as a rule of thumb) then I'm either on the verge of dying or a freak of nature as I'm able to exercise at over 100% for 60 minutes straight

It doesnt matter to me, I'm not someone who exercises in HR zones or anything like that. It was just interesting

            • @dtc: I think you mean 220 minus heart rate. I looked it up, because with 210 I should be dead :)
I'm most comfortable when I reach 167, but my heart rate certainly drops very rapidly when I stop. I'm pretty sure that 30 seconds after, it's probably 20 less.

Maybe in your case it's worth trying another device at the same time for validation. Or you're Klingon and it picks up two hearts.

cadence lock can be a problem on wrist monitors

        • +1

          120? Are you Kipchoge?

        • I have found the wrist HR monitors to be so inaccurate when my heart rate is above 150. The only success I've found when training is to use a chest strap monitor.

Source: Multiple ironman events, 15 hours of training a week, I've also tested Apple series 6 wrist, 945 Garmin wrist, Fenix 5s wrist. I also train with 20+ people who all wear Garmin/Apple and say the exact the same thing.

    • The GPS on this Garmin will be better than the Samsung. The 255 range use two positioning system thingos and the Samsung will just use one.

955 Solar is lowest it's been since release I think, great price.

    • Not sure on the diffs between other forerunner models, but very happy with the 955 Solar

Excellent battery life, can load up maps and go navigating through forests, tap & pay, etc . . still finding new things on it as I dig through the menus.

    • Your 955 (non solar) link looks like $999 to me?

Man, been waiting for the 265 to drop for so long.
Battery life on my 245 Music is getting almost at the annoying <2 day mark.
This is a little tempting though!

    • Same. Patience is wearing thin but I really want the 265 or even 965 if it is a cracker of a sale. The ozbargain in me needs double figure discount at minimum on anything I buy :)

        Hold the line!

Black Friday sales are just around the corner…

I'm thinking of holding out till then, as my 245 Music is in the same state.

    • I’m waiting for Epix pro to drop and currently having Fenix 6.

Want to get the morning report and ecg.

      • The morning report I just found annoying, and the ecg not enabled for Aus yet. But the watch is worth it just for the torch. :)

        • When do you use the torch? Early morning?

I read on Dc Rainmaker that a lot of people love it but I can’t imagine how I will use it. Never turned on the torch on my phone.

When I go for a bike ride, my recovery is 50-60 hours. The next two days, I check the recovery and body battery before going fora run, walk or Pilates. There is where I imagine morning report will come in handy. Endurance score will motivate me to maintain it by exercising.

Will buy a 265 or 965 if the price is right this Christmas and save half the money over epix and continue to use Fenix during the day (sapphire glass) and 265/965 during nights for the morning report.

          • @Commenter: The torch on your watch is one of those things that you dont realize you need it until you start using it. I dont use it when running or exercising. But i use it many times a day, just tonight i've used it to check my mailbox when i got home. Checked the tree out back for the possum. Reading the values on the RAM sticks inside a computer case. Plugging cables in behind a cupboard, and reading the expiry on a packet of tablets without having to turn the bedroom light on.

I've just started to get old man eyes, so the extra light when reading small text without having to find glasses is awesome. The Fenix 7x Pro isn't a huge jump up from my 6x but the torch is the one thing for me that makes it worthwhile.

            • @LowRange: Suddenly realise I need this even more, not even about the run tracking anymore, nothing worse than waking up the kids because you've spend 20 mins fumbling in the dark for the right tablets…

              • @souljah: Yeah it's perfect for that, unlocking doors in the dark, when you drop things under your car seat etc and it's quite bright too. I've got it setup as a double click shortcut on the top/left light button to turn it off and on.

I dont use it much but the red flashlight is awesome when you want to preserve your night vision also. Once you get used to the torch being there, you will never want a watch without one again.

Remember you can get 20% through Bupa rewards.

    • Is it through the offers? I could only get 15%

    • Can you stack the discount? Bringing it down to ~360?

    • Code provided by bupa does not work

  • Does it need an esim to play music or it's a local storage?

    • +2

Local storage - can drag n drop mp3s
Far far easier if you have a spotify subscription though.
Doesn't not have any SIM related functionality.

      • Oops that should have been "Does not have any SIM functionality"

    • +1

You can sync spotify playlists over wi fi, a bit slow but super easy.
