How to Charge Back on an Order That Sydney Tools Cannot Fulfil and Don't Refund?

Placed an order online for local pick up for the kreg stuff from Sydney Tools recently. one day later, I was told on phone that it was out of stock. well… I asked for order cancellation and refund, but was told that I had to goto the store….wth…. So the other day, I drove to the store but was only to be told that this is an online order (though I chose to pick up in store) so I have to cancel it online…. this bloke was very confident…

long story short, when i contacted the them again via the live chat, i was asked to go back to the store…

I have wasted enough time on such a simple cancellation. I have never done credit card chargeback. This is gonna be the first time!

    Call your credit card company.
    Explain what has happened (as per above).
    Ask them nicely if they can do a chargeback…

    You might even be able to do it in your banking app. Double check. See if you can click on the transaction and if there is an option there for you

    Can you call the store and ask to speak to someone who can cancel the order over the phone?

    Pick up the phone rather than using live chat FFS.

    • Nooo waaaaay… I've heard of customer service reps sending voodoo curses down the phone line!

    Go to the store and call the online team and put them on speaker.

  • For every store I can remember, they've said that online orders and payments are handled centrally. So it's not surprising to me that the store can't help you.

    • It’s not about whether the store can or can not help me. It’s about the conflicting stories I got told by their online and instore persons.

  • I ordered some impact driver bits that were posted here. When I went in to pick up another order they told me the bits were out of stock and couldn't order more in.

    First they offered me an alternative which was a completely different brand and selection of bits and not impact rated. I told them I wasn't interested, so they offered me the update version of the kit I ordered (which looked exactly the same), but I'd have to pay the difference, which turned out to be $17.

    I told them to just give me a refund, but they refused saying they couldn't give a refund. They initially said the reason for that is they had offered me a substitute. After a heated back and forth the reason changed to that they couldn't give refund on online orders, then again to they couldn't give refund on afterpay orders.

    Both the online support and local store were not helpful. After about a week a opened a dispute with Afterpay and after a few days Afterpay issued the refund.

    Speaking with others I know who have shopped at that particular store, they avoid issuing a refund at all costs and always try to force you to accept store credit.
