Why are you comparing laptop to desktop? They are for very different market segments.

Decide on that first and foremost then you can compare like for like.

    • how far apart are they?……..which is better value?

      • You need to at least provide links to them as there are many components involved in a laptop/desktop build not mentioned.

With just the info provided, the 6800 desktop is much more powerful GPU compared to 6800M.

Desktops are always better value. You are not paying for proprietary miniaturisation and parts that are gimped for thermal compromises. Mobile versions of a CPU are usually massively hobbled.

Also, if you are going to ask for advice then the least you can do is post the specs, don't be lazy and force people find the links and info.

Based on price of that laptop, I'd say that the desktop will wipe the floor with the laptop.

    • $4k laptop at bpctech

  • Users should be wary of AMD’s army of social media accounts whose goal is to dupe shoppers any way they can. [Nov '20 GPUPro]

    wtf…

userbenchmark isn't a reputable source - it's extremely intel/nvidia biased & this is well documented.

good video about it here: https://youtu.be/RQSBj2LKkWg

    6800m = 6700xt desktop -5-10%

6800 desktop will wipe the floor with 6800m

  • just on GPU alone, usually, same model number, the mobile/laptop version will be slower than the desktop version.

found this link which has a side-by-side comparison of the two:

otherwise, give us the rest of the specs and tell us what you intend to do with this PC/laptop.

  • the specs are 6900HS on the laptop with 6800M as the GPU. 32GB ram. 2TB SSD.

the PC is 5700X with RX 6800. and 16GB ram and 500GB SSD 2TB Harddrive.

    • I have these exact specs. Can play Cyberpunk on a mixture of High/Medium settings and get 90+fps with FSR balanced.

      • the laptop specs?…

        • The Desktop specs sorry

          • @lookingforadeal7: there a new engimas deal out on ozb. is that a better deal spec wise?

            • +1

@ilove: The 6700xt one? 6800 and 5700x are better components.

This Nebula deal is better value wise and more powerful then the 5700x and 6800.
Also is on AM5 platform so it's more future proof.

            • @ilove: I would only upgrade MOBO in that deal and storage but the rest seems good to go.

              • @lookingforadeal7: did you mean the 6800 and 5700x are better components than the nebula or just the 5600 and 6700xt?

                • @ilove: Just the 6700xt. The Nebula deal is probably what you'd want to go for around the $1600 mark.

So I own the corsair a1600 the 6900hs model to be exact.
In terms of the laptop unless you need the extra ram and also can't be bothered installing your own additional 1TB or higher m.2 SSD then get the 6900hs model.
Other wise the 6800hs version that JW has for $200 cheaper will be pretty much the same in terms of performance.
Note the m.2 that is in the laptop will most likely contain bad firmware (Mine did and I bought it last month) see fault here https://www.tomshardware.com/news/samsung-980-pro-ssd-failur… . Since the drive is a "oem" 980 pro it wont be detected by Samsung magican. So you need to find the released firmware and a guide (both on reddit) to update it to prevent early failure.

If you plan on playing games with either and don't care about portability then the 5700x desktop. It's a much better all rounder with nicer parts.
If you plan on moving it around and need portability then well the laptop.

More things to consider. The laptop will require all drivers to be released from Corsair. If you install them from AMD's website it will cause issues. Example AMD supplied graphics drivers will lock the screen to 60hz rending the screen at a quarter of the 240hz it's capable of.
Corsair released graphics drivers seem to only be released roughly every 6 months or so. It's current up to date version is a June 2023 release. Windows update will also keep trying to install a broken AMD video driver with any earlier then June 2023 driver. No doubt will change when there is a newer release.
Current version of iCue also breaks the LED display on the keyboard will just say you have 0% battery remaining or just the clock so useless.

I use my desktop way more often then the corsair. My desktop for example is a 5900x with a rx 6900xt 32GB of ram.

    • thanks. sounds like too much trouble with all the updates.
