How Do You Carry Your Condiments?

A question for foodies, travellers, allergics and dieters.

If you carry around food to add to your food, how do you do so?:

Do you have a collection of adorable bento box accessory bottles and containers that you fill and use and wash and refill?

Do you morally doubiously help yourself to disposable single serves when you are at a takeaway? 🫣

Do you buy the disposable single serves in bulk from a catering supplier?

Do you have a 9 carat gold miniature pepper mill?

Do you hang a bottle of hot sauce from your key chain?

AND which ones do you like and find useful?
Salt and pepper?
Salad dressing?
Chilli sauce?
Cayenne?
Lemon?
Vinegar?
Olive oil?
Fish sauce?
Ginger?
Tomato sauce?
Jam?

Do you morally doubiously help yourself to disposable single serves when you are at a takeaway?

Yes. Most of my camping / hiking condiment supplies are courtesy of maccas. Always ask for extra sauce. Also lots of sushi place soy sauces.

I carry coffees (decaf and normal) in berocca tins. Oil in small bottles (sodastream syrup, etc.).

    • Well asking isnt dubious.

What food do you take on a hike?

When asking for sauce they usually give one per chips - that's when you have to say "more please." I haven't been in a long time but I used to also take maccas' breakfast Vegemite, PB, and jam portions. Pieface have great sauces but they usually charge and they're easy to break.

If I'm having something that requires certain flavours I'll have this premixed before I go - eg a small (food coloring, sodastream syrup) bottle filled with everything needed to add at once - soy sauce, oil, a bit of maple syrup, a bit of liquid smoke, sprinkle of paprika, etc. - to mix in with a tofu scramble.

Otherwise the standard stuff - except I don't eat animal products so I don't really care if my sausages or bacon have been in the heat for 2 days.

I usually keep it in my socks. Not sure why, but things seem to taste extra salty!

I don't know anyone who is foodie who carries spices around with them. They just pick… good places to eat.

    • I see.
They are never forced to eat at a not good place?

If they're not eating good food to start with, then adding a load of spices isn't really going to fix things.

The only person I know who carries anything around is one friend who has to have tabasco with everything. I think he stopped that years ago.

Some refillable bottles have loops / rings in them, that I've seen people attach carabiners to.

    Jawara Saus Sambal

It comes in a pouch with a screw top. That stuff is unbelievably good and can pretty much fix any bland savoury food. I've known a few girls that carry these in their handbag. I totally understand why this is the second most important thing after their mobile phone. A bottle of water is probably the next item on the packing list.

Now, if anyone can find a bargain on those, I'd stock up!

I use repurposed spice jars or other small jars.

Always take a backpack when I'm out, plenty of room to store. I only take celtic sea salt & cayenne with me. No other spices or condiments.
