Hello everyone! It's almost time to change the filter for my Mi 4 Pro air purifier. Even after vacuuming, the system is still giving me a warning that the filter is overdue for a change.
Curious to kno if any of you have experience with purchasing a $20 filter from eBay. Alternatively, is it better to go for a genuine Xiaomi filter from a reputable seller like Kogan? Your input is much appreciated. Thanks!

Typically how often do you need to replace the filter if you vacuum it every now and then?
reputable seller like Kogan
Thanks for that laugh
LOL they are literally the only few vendors that carries the stock
Even after vacuuming, the system is still giving me a warning that the filter is overdue for a change.
Of course it gives a warning. The warning is based purely on time and not effectiveness- there is an RFID chip in the filter so the purifier knows that the filter hasn't been changed out, and it will keep bugging you. Vacuuming might
I haven't bothered checking, but if you can remove or block out the RFID, the warning might go away. Or just ignore the warning.
Personally, I would be okay with a third party filter. These things are not high tech in the slightest.
But how often do we really need to replace the filter if it's been vacuum from time to time?
How long is a piece of string?
The filter will eventually clog up with ultrafine particles that don't get removed with a vacuum, but it really depends on how often you run the purifier, at what speeds, and how dirty your environment is.
If you want to know for sure, buy a particle counter.
I used to run my filters 6+ months, but that was with pre-filters installed. I would never vacuum. Generally at low to medium-low speeds. 24 hours a day. Tested with a particle counter.
Genuine Xiaomi filters go on sale for around $40 delivered
The device just counts down 186 days from when you first insert the filter; if you care enough rip the label off the bottom of the filter and use it for a year. It will show a warning on startup that it's non-genuine but disappears. Remember to take it out and brush off the dust every other month
Otherwise end of the day it's just a bit of mesh that captures dust and particles. Non-HEPA filters I would be fine with non-genuine but otherwise price difference isn't that big knowing it's doing the job right
Thanks for the information!
Mine is a 4pro so it's gonna cost around $70 which is pretty steep.
That is correct, the unit tracks the number of hours that filter has been used.
Considering you want it to filter the air, I would go for a genuine one then you know it should work correctly.
