Singapore Airlines Prices Nearly Doubled

Does anyone know why the prices of flights have drastically increased?

I have been keeping a close watch on flights for Singapore Airlines next year in April. Most of the time, return flights were coming in between $600 and $650. I was waiting and hoping that they would be involved with the black Friday sales but kept checking back. Today I got to check (incognito search), and find the prices are now over $1100 for the same flights that were around the $650 mark one week ago.

Is it fuel that is nearly doubling the prices, or are they jacking the prices up for an upcoming sale?

Thoughts?

Closer to travel date? Discounted seats been sold out ? Airlines usually allocate set number of discounted seats.

Are you looking at one way flights? $600 return from the East Coast is unusually cheap for Singapore Airlines. $1,100 is more realistic.

Ye 650 return on the best airline in the world is pretty dreamlandish

Even a full year out best i see is mid 900s for return.

I mean even if it was 1100 its still worth it, who would you rather fly….singapore airlines….or qantas….probabaly for the same price

I have found those $1300 return Europe tickets before on SIA and with reasonable stop overs

    • Yes, return flights. We're from Perth.

Seems like they might be getting ready for the "sales" too! lol

Same thing happened to me last year $1300 return to Europe in August/Sept 23 I think they just had limited seats for those prices and once gone they were gone

  • There was a rumour saying flight prices shown during weekends were the highest, and prices are the lowest during mid-week like Tue/Wed.
I guess each airline to its own, but perhaps try searching during mid-week to see if any differences.

What's the route you were checking?
Though assuming its a long haul flight? i dont think it is going to go below $600-650, so i would grab it when it shows that price again.

    • Perth - Singapore - it's a 5 hour flight.

PER to SNG is likely to be on Scoot anyway, isn't it?

        • +3

          No

        • Pre-COVID SQ was running 4 daily flights between Perth and Singapore, in addition to a daily Scoot flight. Not sure if all services have resumed yet.

          • @GregRust: 3 daily SQ flights now.
But now 2 daily Scoot flights (only 1 on Fri & Sun)

    Ask Qantas

Remember they’re all part of Star Alliance

339 return on Scoot for departure 30 April.

Early dates in April are more expensive.

    • Early April is vic school holidays I believe

  • Even brisbane to perth cost me $1600 return economy post covid travel costs suck.

Likely it's a timing thing, I always notice that around 6 months before a flight the price tends to shoot up, then comes back down again as it gets closer (and there's cheap seats available).

Either that or you just plain missed out. $650 is cheap cheap.

Those seats closer to the date is pure gambling

If you want a holiday, make a good plan and book 1 year out and stick to it, otherwise pay the tax for not being a well prepared tourist

You tried to be too much of a cheapskate big boy and the rug got pulled up from under ya. Happen to me with hotels in Japan

Check out Scoot. Much cheaper and never had any issues travelling to SNG with them.

    • Took them 4 months ago. Their prices have jumped too in comparison to pre covid times. They are still popular though. Flights were packed.

  • Post covid air ticket prices have jumped. Dun think it's limited to SIA

  • By the way What's the best way to use krisflyer miles? Redeem for business class ticket or get a economy ticket and use krisflyer miles to uodrage to business?

  • You might be getting results from scoot, since it's now owned by Singapore airlines.
