  • when is the next Ipad due out?

    • +7

The next 'new' iPad will most likely be released about 6 months from now (about March). As for the mostly unsubstantiated 'iPad Mini', or whatever they end up calling it, that may be released in October / November.

I don't really think you should base your purchase overly much on when the next device is released, though. Everything gets superseded quickly in the tech world - may as well jump in whenever the hell you want.

      • Isn't an ipad mini just an ipod touch?

        • Nope, 7.85", and I'm not bragging…

  • +6

iphone got taller and ipad got smaller, somewhere along the line, they will meet in the middle :D

    • +1

      And Apple gets fatter.

  • wow looks like price crash on the ipad

    •16GB (Wi-Fi + 3G) $549

3G ??? Sounds like the old models

    • +5

The iPad 3 doesn't support Telstra's 4G network, so they're not allowed to be advertised as 4G.

      Info: http://www.watoday.com.au/business/watchdog-bites-apple-for-…

      • +2

But Apple advertise as "Celluar", "3G" is the iPad 2…

        • That's true for some countries, jv, but they cannot advertise as "Celluar" for Australia. Apple was taken to court over how they are advertised here.

        • +1

Sorry Bindi, no dice. Clearly says "cellular" in the Aus Apple Store:

Ah, thanks for that dazweeja, my bad. I was so sure it was both banned (Cellular and 4G), but glad for the correction :)

          Apologies, jv xx

Is there any problems with warranty with Kogan sold iPads, iPhones etc? I understand they import them from Hong Kong because it's cheaper?

    • warranty is via Kogan, not Apple

      • Ah that makes sense.
        I've been looking at a 16GB 3G for a relative. ($625 at Harvey Norman)

For peace of mind I think I might rather pay the extra $75 for Apple warranty. They have been really good in the past.

        • +2

I am not 100% sure but i have heard that ipads have worldwide warranty whereas iphones do not

      • Quote from Kogan Q & A,

Where do I take my product for warranty repairs?
Posted by The Kogan Team on 03 May 2012 02:42 PM

If your product needs to be serviced under warranty, contact the Kogan support team and we will arrange for it be collected by a courier.

Please note that Apple iPads and MacBooks are covered by Apple’s worldwide warranty and should be taken to Apple for warranty repairs.

I wonder if these would have iOS5 or iOS6 on them. Would be useful to know for those that would prefer to stay on iOS5 due to the whole Apple Maps debacle.

    • what debacle? my maps work fine… they are also a whole lot quicker than the Google ones…

      • +3

the satellite images are horrible and blurry over brisbane..

        • -2

yes, agreed, the satellite images aren't as detailed and there is no street view, but for general getting around, i prefer my maps to load quicker, and this certainly does…

          if i want a satnav, i use metroview…

if you want detailed satellite images, download Google Earth app.

My biggest problem with it is that there are a lot of innacuracies. For example, placement of Cairns QLD, or Lithgow NSW. Or other oddities like when you zoom out over Sydney, Parramatta is classed as a small, not so important city (so you can't see its relative location when zoomed out), and Holroyd is highlighted instead.

Apple Maps may load faster, but Google Maps still has much better data IMHO.

        • +6

I would prefer my maps to be accurate. What is a second more in loading compared to going to the wrong location.

      • +1

The debacle where I searched "X Collins St, Melbourne" and it pointed me out to a place out to a Collins St in Thornbury. Had to open up my browser -> maps.google.com.au to point me to the right place

    • The maps look great. It's more that they don't have the past decade of back end data about businesses and locations that Google Maps has, plus some of the smarts.

Google maps is very smart at figuring out what your random input might mean, i.e. "McDonalds near Port Road Intersection" or something like that.

That's not to say the apple maps aren't bad. I haven't noticed any problems yet on my iPad. But I'm a little wary of updating my iPhone since I use the maps function so much.

    • ipad from OZ stores like HN/Dicksmith/good guys have IOS 5.1.1 on them.
it's up to you to upgrade later.

      don't know about Kogan.
you should talk/contact them first before ordering to make sure.

The maps on iOS6 are pathetic compared to Google Maps.

Will there be ipad mini out soon ???

      october

      • there's no confirmed date yet…

        • That's right, no confirmed date yet.
By the way, I get the voting on helpful and smartalec responses, but I don't get why people are +ing and -ing on questions such as this one from vash12 and maogua's . Strange.

        • Well I already answered vash12's question (that, and you can just google 'ipad mini' and you'll get blasted in the face with all kinds of speculation), so I'd hazard a guess that the neg was for posting before actually reading. And maogua's comment doesn't have a neg on it…?

        • sorry!, I didn't state maogua had a neg, just voted on for asking a question (people are +ing and -ing), fi the question which I replied to. My statement was more towards voting for the sake of voting.

        • Ah ok, I misunderstood slightly. The most logical reason I can think of, for people +'ing on random questions, would be too indicate that they too would like to know the answer.

      • October, 2013?

Will HN, Myer, DS, BigW or Target price match Kogan?

    • +1

I don't think Myer will, I believe in their price match conditions (big notice up at the highpoint S.C.), they say they do not price match online prices. However if you give it a go and succeed, let us know how you go, and post the receipt!.
You'd think HN would price match, seeing that Gerry claims he's taking the big boys and online retailers!, However I doubt they would. COME ON GERRY!

  • not happy, last time I got a refurbished. Them return it

  • When I go to the Kogan site the 16gb wifi shows as $489 - am I missing something (apart from the $50 ;) )

    • Ooops - out of date now
