  • Officeworks refused to price match as their product code does not match Videopro's CHDHX112RW.

    • +27

The Officeworks person you spoke to is either being ignorant or deceptive.
The alphanumeric code you provided is clearly marked as an SKU or "Stock Keeping Unit" on the VideoPro website.
SKUs are internal company identifiers that are completely unique from one business to another.
They are NOT the same thing as a model number.
Officeworks staff should know this because they also use their own internal SKU system.

i've pricematched three times this year from three different shops, they're always like that super thorough for no reason. And every single time they're super reluctant and leave negative remarks like how the discount i'm getting is too much.

        • +5

Stop buying off them and support other retailers then!

          • @Milkywayss: they have 5% discount and more convenient where i live.

        • +3

JB Hi-Fi talks a big game about price matching, but in my experience, it's more like a broken record of excuses. It's pretty disappointing, given their reputation. Makes you wonder if they're all show and no action.

          • @Andersonlo: Tend to agree with the JB HiFi situation too.
Unless you know someone, buy a fair bit from them, or get along well with the sales agent from the time you walk in, then they seem to make life a little hard. Best way is to just ask them to check with their manager. The sales person will still get the commish, and it takes the responsibility off them and places it onto the managers.
If the store has had a quiet day/week, they often just say "whatever the customer needs" or similar. :)
            Well, thats what i've found…

    • Did OW add shipping?

      • I bought one this afternoon at OW and they didn't add shipping - but I think I was lucky because they usually do.

      • Nope…

    • +3

Usually in this situation i show them the model number under specifications on the officeworks site. Should get you across the line.

Else JbHifi Pricematch with online chat has usually been nice to me lately as well, ask for a price beat/ match/ get close. Pretty much ask for a deal.

    • Go to another outlet.
OW sock (on the website and system) is 111
      The videopro is 112.
      Difference is NOTHING!
Packaging vaeiation from 2023 Q1 to 2023 Q3 (ii believe).
Its a BS excuse to not do the match.
      Also, no shipping shoild be charged, as videopro has store fronts. "You have friends in Brisbane right? Or teavelling there tomorrow for work?" Then CC os fine. (;

I know this is a very good price but you should take a look at the DJI Action 3 or 4. Few of the reviews and comparisons of the GoPro Hero and DJI Action seems to favour the latter.

I’ve got the Hero 10. Video/Audio quality is very good but it over heats and freezes often. The major drawback for me is the wireless preview not available during recording.

    • +1

This, I've had two of the recent models, both overheated and froze all the time especially when I needed them most. I took back to the store and they gaslit me like oh bro you're the only one having these issues must be something you did despite all the reviews online mentioning it. I've since got the action and oh boy I would take an even lesser quality camera for the reliability I get out of this.

    • +1

Good point. Planning to: get OW price-match, TRS refund, sell it (hopefully for a profit) when back in Oz, then profits will subsidise the DJI Action 4

    • I have the Action 4. The bigger sensor makes low light shots so much better than the GoPro.

      • Does the action 4 overheat at max settings when used as a still camera?

I have the go pro 11 and I can't run it on the highest settings as a stationary camera because it overheats. So I can't use max resolution nor max fps. It's also not that great in low light. The main advantage is it's light and small and portable.

Looking to get something which can shoot as a stationary camera in low light with decent quality.

    • Please correct me if im wrong - but the DJI Action 3 & 4 don't have GPS…?
For similar money, I personally believe 'bang for buck' in this case, the Go Pro H 11 is the best…
I need the GPS sensor for my use case, so DJI's are out. Same as the insta's…

    • Hard to comprehend GoPro and still selling rubbish that doesn't work. I had endless issues with my Hero 3, I thought the bugs would be fixed by v10

    • how is the stabilisation on this? I think a few years back gopro were supreme but havent been following it lately

    • +1

Just out of interest, how are you using the 10 ?, what prompts or influences the 'over-heating & freezing' issues?

I hammer my 10 to the extreme, extreme temperatures and conditions, it's done hundreds of hours of recording and I've never had any issues….

      • +1

Same with 10 and now my 11, I have hundreds of hours in hot climates and they have never overheated. Mine are not used in any kind of case, and usually not for +10min shots, but action cams are not documentary cameras. If you place it in a spot that gets some airflow, IMHO they are fine.

      • +1

Same here, I keep hearing about these issues, but have had mine out recording on a 40C day in direct sunlight and it doesn't over heat… Are these people trying to record from inside their oven? Or maybe there are really specific niche use cases that can cause it to over heat, like using it as fire starter.

      • +1

4K60 works a lot of the times but I have had freezing and needing to disconnect/reconnect power.

4K30 no issues at all. But anything above 4K60 will frequently freeze.

The biggest annoyance for me is not having wireless live preview during recording, which was available in the older GoPro.

        • +1

Ahh ok, that makes sense, thanks…

I tend to stay well back from 'max' which is probably why I dont have issues> 4k50, standard or high stabilization, no boost, comms/wifi/voice/GPS all off….

I guess they probably shouldn't include features that push the camera beyond what it is comfortably capable of handling…

    • Thanks for the heads up, ordered a DJI Action 3 at $420 instead.

  • This or the insta 360 x3?

    • As an ambassador for insta360, i have to say insta.
And for a 360 camera. Insta 360 x3 all day long.
This (Hero 11) is not a 360 camera.
Hero 11 has a gps built in, hence why ive gotten them today. Didnt want to use the external gps for the insta.
Two different products for 2 different functions (in my case).
If u just want a single lens camers. At this price, cant go past the GP H11.
      For a 360, get the x3!

      PM me if u want a freebie link on the i360. (;

      • +2

GPs should be standard on all devices in my opinion

        But thanks pinged you

      • Yeah been wanting the insta360 x3 for motorbike rides but god damn by the time you factor in the mounts and stuff it ends up being VERY expensive. But a forward facing only camera feels like you're missing out on so much.

        • Ha ha - yep. For 'every day riding' etc… I'm 100% behind the insta 360 platform.
If only they had of included a GPS inbuilt and 3rd party app for telemetry…

(Ok, I do use a AiM Solo 2 - yes… so before anyone says "use a lap timer" etc..)

        • I love my insta360 x3 for snowboarding videos for the "everything everywhere all at once" thing, but it just takes so long to process the videos (direction, zoom, colour, levels etc) where I find the 4K60 linear out of my Gopro11 is just so easy to drop immediately into a timeline and usually needs no adjustment out of camera (but I am lazy). I also have to take zero care of the Gopro, it just gets chucked in a pocket or backpack where the 360 needs plenty of care due to its protruding lenses.

    • +1

I had an insta 360, not only did it overheat in mild conditions (Cloudy day in the water) but they refused to take it back even after I demonstrated it doing this and were terrible to deal with. I've also confirmed with a store that stocks them that insta are awful to deal with as he had issues getting them to fix a problem. You have to baby the product because the lens sticks out so much and you can't use the sticky protection in the water. So you're constantly having to change them over or not use them. GoPro suck too, skip them both and get an action 4.

      • I'm confused - are you just wanting a single lend camera in this case?
All 360 cameras, Go Pro, insta, Kandao, Ricoh (I believe in fact the first to come out with a bar 360 camera over 15 yrs ago or so) etc have cameras which 'stick out' in the consumer range. (I may be mistaken, but don't recall seeing anything that doesn't and is a real 360 side angle dual camera device).

So if se are comparing a like for like device, then they sill all stick out.

I've never had over heating issues with any of my insta devices. That sounds odd (but 100% possible and I don't doubt).
But I do totally agree that the lens covers (protectors) are way to soft and I'm forever replacing them. I just wait for them to be on sale and the last 2 times have grabbed 4 just in case (as I have a couple of the x3 devices).

Otherwise, love the thing. Super easy to use, underwater video is great (I scuba dive), and the 360 concept is heaps of fun.
Software (desktop) app is good and the phone app is great.

But like anything, pick and choose what you want for what you most need.

I still use Go Pro Session Hero's (the mini cube's) but those batteries die in like 20 mins… :( Pain in the a$$ though to sync the app etc as its an old, unsupported device now…

        • He asked this (GoPro) or the insta 360 so I explained why I very much dislike the insta360 and that he should go an action 4 instead of either. If you don't have a genuine use for the 360 then it's not worth the hassle imo. I free dive and you can't use the dive case out-of-water, and you can't use the lens protector in-water. So there is nothing for a situation like free diving or general beach use where it's in and out of water, the only solution is to not use any protection and not dive beyond the max depth, but then god forbid you scratch the lens and then we have to talk dealing with the company, which based on my and others experience is not enjoyable.

    • Anyone used the Insta's for scuba diving, snorkeling?

      • No. But definitely not good for 360 video underwater, especially snorkeling
This video is just right to show insta360 Vs goPro11
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3Qmhqqa7Xo

      • I tried to use it for free diving, I got the dive case but it overheated because the dive case needs to be submerged all the time to dissipate heat. So I took it off and tried the normal lens protection but that's not allowed to be used in water and on top of that, you NEED the dive case to get good stitched footage when filming in an out of water. So it's like they make it so you need the case, but also so you can't use the case unless it's always submerged it's so stupid. So I ended up with no case and no protection and was constantly paranoid about scratching the lens because you might as well throw it out at that point (Insta won't deal with it) and the footage turned out dodgy in out and out of water. The way I see it is it's basically the cost of two normal action cameras so unless you really plan to use the heck out of the 360 feature then you would almost be better off buying two action 4's and sticking them back to back on a selfie stick to capture front and back footage (That's what I'm going to do - I've already got one action cam and I love it compared to the GoPro and 360).

OzBargain can host the images for you, and you don't need to set any access settings.

When you're logged in, click on "My Account" and then "files". You'll see a page saying "Upload New File or drag it here".

Once you've uploaded an image, it will appear as a thumbnail.

Now right-click on the thumbnail, and select "Copy Link".

You can then paste the link into your comment.

Here are a couple I've posted in the past:

Can I ask why you try to price match another company instead of rewarding the posted company with the sale. I get it if it's is cheaper but price match.

    • +2

In my case - 1. cos I'm a tight a55 and only bought them cos they are cheap.
      2. Wanted them now and didnt want to wait.
      3. Take the extra discount when i'm interstate as a bonus.

      4… A question like this…? Are you a real Ozb'er? :)

You can use 15% off gift cards with OW and JBHifi, making this $498 (inc s/h) - $74.70 = $423.30

      • Now there is some serious OzB thinking…
Totally forgot about vouchers… damn it!
Someone pay this man (or women) commission on this idea!!! :)

      • You can use 15% off gift cards with OW and JBHifi

Are they always available, if so, where please? Or are you referring to one of the "Ultimate Gift Card" deals that appear on rare occasions?

        • Are they always available

          No.

          if so, where please?

          On this website. Ozbargain.

Or are you referring to one of the "Ultimate Gift Card" deals that appear on rare occasions?

They are one of many gift cards which offers discounts to either OW or JB.

10% off cards show up most of the time. Very, very common. (A reminder that 2000 flybuys / rewards = $10, so a 20x points on a $100 card is $10. Flybuys can be converted directly to some giftcards.)

3%-5% off cards are basically all the time. Again, just look at this website. Ozbargain. There is an entire section dedicated to giftcards. How much discount, which cards for which shops and where to get them.

          • @PeppaPigDidNthngWrng:

There is an entire section dedicated to giftcards

I know about the giftcards wiki page, it's way out-of-date. I've updated it myself a few times, for the rewards programs I have access to. But it appears nobody is responsible for updating the wiki, and very few people bother. Hence my question.

"15% off" gift cards that you originally claimed are exceptionally rare. So your claim "You can use 15% off gift cards" is somewhat less useful than it appeared at first.

    • +1

If you have issues with the device much easier to return to local store then having to deal with an online only store

  • I have JB GC that I want to use, but they are telling me there is less than 5, so they cant offer me a deal. =(

    • +1

went through JB online chat and managed to get $485, wahaha so it does depend on whom you get!

  • Or get an action 4 and never look back.

GoPro have been stale for years.

DJI is where my money's going.

    • No GPS…
      Not a 1:1 device though… :(

      • -1

GPS is useless when the device won't even turn on because it's bugged out and frozen.

        • Ugh!

          Really? Nlthats no justification… ha!

  • Whats the benefit of gps with these?

    • +1

Can be insightful when reviewing footage captured for a time/distance sport (downhill mtb as example) as you then determine your time for a run both overall and in various point to point elements to see where faster/slower both elapsed time & distance covered.
I don’t do that, but seen others use for the training in their sport.

      • Thanks wasnt sure and wouldnt have thought of that.

  • +2

Partner has DJI Action 4, I have Hero 11. We pretty much almost exclusively use the Action 4, if we know we will need to record night footage. It's so much more crisp looking compared to the gopro

    • @cute as duck is the Action 4 magnetic mount decently strong? Am wondering if it’s mounted on a tripod and a ball hit it. Would it easily fly off?

My use case is primarily for videoing ball sports. Basketball and volleyball.

  • +1

I picked one up a while ago for not much more and fortunately I've not run into any overheating issues. I've been using Telesin Stamina batteries and they work as well as the GoPro Enduro too.

  • +1

I have the GoPro Hero 10 and honestly recken its the worst gopro I have had. Overheats, locks up, have to format my memory card soon as i take it out of the camera. Just a bad product imo.

    • -1

That surprises me, my 10 has never overheated, and I think I've only ever had one lockup in hundreds of hours of recording, and I think that was due to double/multi tapping the button while using Quick-Capture…

I ran it through the Canning Stock Route in June, 63+ hours of desert recording, often for hours straight in 30+C temps, powered from a powerbank, and not once did it fail, I recorded the whole track successfully without a single issue… (also ran it off batteries at times while recharging the powerbank, no issues there either)

Edit: I also juggle many memory cards without issue..

I had an 8 which was a real dog of a thing, always locking up, so maybe you got a dud-10, if you got it from an Aussie retailer and it's under a couple of years old, I'd return it, ACL and such…

      • +1

I bought it directly from gopro.

Interesting - I have found mine getting crazy hot though, does yours get hot?

        I record at 60fps, 4k.

Using a samsung 256gb micro sd, some cards will record for a minute then stop and it will give me an error. Maybe those cards don't have the write speeds required.

But the freezing and constantly having to format, also had some videos get corrupted where the video completely distorts.

        • Mine gets warm but it has never shut off… Used for hiking, boating, helmet cam MTB & motorbike, and general touring/tourist shit… I always record at 4k-50fps, high stabilization, GPS off… I use mainly use Samsung cards, 512, 256, and 128 at times, most the cards are fairly modern, red samsungs and the newer blue-ish ones sourced from reputable ebay sellers and Amazon deals I've found on here… (thinkign about it, some of my red Samsungs are quite a few years old now I guess)

My current project is uploading the 63 hours of footage from the CSR as a Slow-TV channel:
          https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4IO7m8cxw6oeC6C7RIia…
(nothing too flash, the first few clips out of Wiluna are pretty boring… shit rider plodding through, lol)

        • +1

Just following up on this….. It really sounds like you may have memory card issues…. A couple of thoughts, what are the Samsung cards you're using?, Evo Plus or?… Where did you buy the cards?… There's a lot of cheap sellers on ebay and the likes that sell fake cards, cards that physically appear to be say 256GB, and they show as 256GB, but they're actually only really small cards, 16Gb or the likes …

Dodgy and slow cards are known to cause Gopros to get hot….

If you have any doubts about your cards it's probably worth buying a known good one from Amazon or a real Aussie store, 256GB Evo Plus cards come up around $25 at times, and 512 under $50… Just keep an eye out for a good deal, they come up often > https://www.ozbargain.com.au/tag/microsd-card

I always format new cards in the camera, then if I'm just doing day trips and odd recording I don't bother formatting them between uses and such… When I head out on big multi-day trips using a number of cards and recording for many hours each day, when I pop a card in I'll generally format it in the camera just to ensure it's completely empty and to maximize storage space, and I figure it's a good step just to increase the odds of nothing going wrong…

'If' you can get your issues sorted out it would be well worth running the stabilization, I generally run it on standard or high, I never use Boost, I just don't find it's needed and it causes the ground right in front of the bike to look a bit funky I think, I'm just not a fan of it…

          • +1

@FLICKIT: I have a samsung evo plus 256gb, bought it from these guys back in 2019 - https://www.ebay.com.au/str/ninjabuyaustralia

Went out today and it stuffed up some the videos. They ended up distorted, had a gutful of it.

            • @m0tyrider: hmmm, very odd… I'm not sure what to suggest, there has to be something wrong here…

Maybe try a factory reset on the camera, then run it with all default settings for a bit to see if it goes ok, and try a different memory card…

$460.75 price matched at OW Belmont. Fortunately, staff member didn't pick up the $13 postage to WA.

I'm happy with that. I already have this camera and think it's great. I mainly use it to record my solo flights. This one will be a Christmas present for my son.

  • guys, where do you buy action 4 ? thanks in advance

    • Particularly around this price point

      • I think a better comparison would be against Action 3 as both are the previous models. Action 4 only came out in August.

DJI Pocket 3 also looks really nice 🤷 more choices argh

    • +1

Ebay currently has a ~$60 off coupon for everyone, so $629 becomes ~$570

If you can get JB to price match that, $570-15% = $484.50

but that's the best I've figured out so far.

I had a GoPro many years ago that was 5 days out of warranty with a burnt LCD. Known problem for that model and they denied a warranty fix. I went back and forward for weeks threatening ACCC and even Tracey Grimshaw (for LOLS) . I wouldn't give them a dollar after that experience. It still functions but GoPro can get stuffed!

  • I’m in the market for a camera to document my overseas trips and occasional sports/running. Research had pointed me towards the DJ I Osmo Action 4, but at this price point would this be better? I know the GoPro has questionable night time capabilities, but that’s not a deal breaker for me.

    • Really depends what you want out of the camera…
Single lens, 360, what res, what extras/options etc… GPS, No GPS, in built xxxxxxx features…

      Lots of different details…
