"Fall is in the air at NewsgroupDirect. There’s football to be played, pumpkin pie to be eaten, and usenet to be used. To celebrate the arrival of our favorite season we’re having a block sale. We’re discounting our 500 GB blocks to just $20, a savings of $40 over the regular price."

Yes, I'm looking forward to some of that pumpkin pie ;)

Better than Terabyte Tuesday if you only want a 500 GB block of Usenet.

Please consider using my affiliate link below. It won't cost you any extra, but will keep me in Usenet.

    I've never used Usenet - what fun things can you do with it? This is OzBargain not Whirlpool so I don't think mods will Penalty Bin any possible illegal activities, I'm just curious why people like Usenet (never used it before)

      what fun things can you do with it?

      Crook things. To say it plainly and honestly.

      There has already been discussion on this provider before along with some links to guides on how to use Usenet.

    • Latest download I have for a 2GB file "Downloaded in 2 minutes 51 seconds at an average of 11.2 MB/s"

      You can't do that with torrents :)

      • You can if you have a really popular torrent, also what kind of internet is that!? NBN!?
        My connection maxs out at 1.1MB/s, cuts out when there's a phone call (TPG home bundle), didn't use to cut out when it was on Telstra home phone + TPG ADSL2+ (stand-alone).

          You mean if I wanted to download Ubuntu or something I could probably find a torrent with enough seeders yes.

          The majority of content on bittorrent will give you slow speeds. Yes you can find private trackers that have some content you want at fast speeds, but your always going to have heaps of slow torrents.

          And its completely pointless anyway, you need to keep a good ratio if its a private torrent site, a fast download speed is pointless if you can't upload at the same speed.

          Your internet cutting out is likely the result of a faulty or non existant filter on your phone. Its not meant to be like that.

          The internet is Bigpond Ultimate Cable 100mbit 500GB for $129 a month. So worth it :)

          Usenet download speeds can be highly variable though — for some reason these guys don't usually saturate my connection, but Astraweb does.
          Still, Usenet is still faster than BT in most instances.

        • +1

          Most decent private trackers have done away with ratio keeping and have simply enforced amount of time seeding.

          They are more or less the same, it only comes down to preference.

        • Yes I agree my connection does not become saturated in the same way as the other premium providers.

      I wish I never wasted so much time and money on one click hosting and torrent sites, Usenet is such a superior way of getting your stuff, while it might be a little more difficult to find really obscure content, it more then makes up for it in the speed content gets released and the mere fact your connection gets capped out instantly with one click, or even automated.

      Sorry for breaking the rules Usenet users.

    • I've seen cwongtech discussing usenet on whirlpool…

      Google him.

  • Here's a really good explanation I have posted before. I won't post it in its entirety again because it is quite lengthy, but it runs through exactly what you need to make Usenet work for you.

    Read that, then come back here to use either the plain link or the affiliate link.

      cmon guys, first rule of Usenet

      • +2

        Yes, because of people like the above, UseNet is now getting take down notices. They're ruining it for all!

        • +2

          Usenet has had takedown notices for quite a while.

        • samfisher5986 Absolutely Correct.

    • Hey op the link says you are a ref. Can you get us a deal on the 1TB blocks? They are not on sale at the moment ($100) but the 500gb blocks at $20 x 2 works out to be a lot cheaper than buying a 1TB. Are you able to do $35 for 1TB?

  • im looking for 3 asian movies that are difficult to get from torrent. can i know if i can get them from usenet before joining?
    they are:
    * taipei 24h
    * night market hero
    * monga

      Search for them on binsearch.info using the two options to see if they're available. But make sure you have license to do so before you download any copyrighted content because piracy is not the kind of thing we condone here, if you know what I mean.

        You can also try http://nzb.su/

        There is a limitation though, is that as a free user you only get 10 nzb downloads a day. But as a casual user that's enough for me.

        • oh thanks i didnt know we have free index service. together with my free xsusenet.com from ozb, finally i can try this on my new synology NAS.

          For Japanese-only content, e.g Music videos, anime, manga and dramas you can try Fanzub.com. Also free with no limitations like BinSearch.

    I've been looking at the affiliate link rules and just wondering what this line means in practice?

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guideline…

    • At Ozbargain we consider the main beneficiary of referral votes must always be the user. NOT the poster.
    • im saying, aslong doesnt cost user extra, im fine.
      without the poster, we will not know the deal. with using affiliate, this will encourage people to post good deals in this website.
      if you dont want to share love, then dont click.

    • It means if the poster is posting a referral link then the people clicking it must receive some sort of incentive in return, if only the poster is benefiting then it is not allowed. The main link to the discount must have no referral link and the referral link should be at the end of the deal description with a note saying what you will receive as a user for clicking that link. (i.e. GMG you get $2 off)
