Bunnings - Replacing Chipped and Scratched Ekoboards

Hi,

I recently ordered some timber and ekoboards from Bunnings for building a deck. The materials were delivered last week. I immediately noticed two boards were chipped. The driver said he was aware when they loaded the pack to the truck. He said don’t worry. And just contact that manager they will organise redelivery. Later when I carried the boards one by one to the yards, I also noticed another board was chipped and many were scratched.

The chipped boards can’t be used. It does not bother me If the scratches on the side facing down or the scratched are light. However 5 boards have deep scratches on the side facing up.

So I contacted Bunnings for replacement. I offered to go to the shop and choose 8 boards myself and they can organise the redelivery to and pick up from my place. However the most recent email from them sounds like they are expecting me to carry the damaged boards to the store and bring the new boards home by myself.

I am wondering if anyone here had similar experiences and what Bunnings MAY do with this situation.

Thanks.

Why would you not go pick the 8 boards and take them home yourself?
Are you talking about 5.4m lengths of EKODECK?

Yes, 5.4m lengths of ekodeck. I need an entire piece of edge board. No way I can carry home a board of 5.4m long.

      • Ah, context helps.
Apart from the free large trailers with overhang, i see no alternative then to arrange redelivery. Good luck.

  • expecting me to carry the damaged birds to the store

Bunnings aren't allowed to sell live animals.

As these are not items that can be easily returned, Bunnings has to organise pickup of the damaged boards, and deliver undamaged ones.

If Bunnings won't do so, then lodge a complaint with the ACCC, and contact your state consumer protection organisation. For example, NSW Fair Trading.

Generally when you point out the actual law and bring up Fair Trading, argumentative companies back down.

Thanks I will go there and talk to them today.

  • I'd just go back to the same store and seek out the person in charge of special orders or trades and tell the story.
Don't leave till they agree to a fair outcome

Why do people never do the simple stuff first?

seek out the person in charge of special orders

      and do what to them?

  • Speak to the trade specialist and tell them it was delivered damaged, and you want the replacements delivered. I have installed EKO deck at my place and the boards are actually deceivingly heavy.
