Clare Valley Shiraz 2017 at $135/Dozen (85% off RRP) Delivered @ Skye Cellars (Excludes TAS and NT)

120

Hi everyone,

Cancelled export order. This wine is already our best-selling Shiraz of the Year.

Over 1800 dozen sold so far and many returning buyers.

We sold this wine to our members first and now we are making it available to everyone.

Most people at the start bought only 1 dozen but after trying it most of them would come back and buy 2, 3 or even more dozen.

We have had plenty of great deals over the 43 years that we have been in business but this wine is selling in record time.

One of the reasons why we are selling this wine so cheap is because of a misprint on the label.
Clare Valley is spelt as Clare Vally.

Also, not happy with the wine? Free Returns.

Cheers.

    We've had a case - good value.

    Just bought another one!

      Convinced me! Bought a case.

Got one of these a few months back and it's not good IMO, even price considered. It comes through really heavy on the alcohol - the label says 14.8% but I suspect it's more. I wouldn't be ordering more and in fact I've now ten bottles that I don't know what to do with (since it's past 30 days).

The Schoolhouse Headmaster Cab Sauv from Skye (when available) is a much better buy.

    • Oh, that does not sound too good. Ordered already now so need to wait and taste for myself haha.

Often high alcohol taste soothes and mellows with a good decant as well as serving not too warm.

Bit of extra cellaring age will mellow the wine more too.

        Agreed.

When I first got this from Skye I thought it was good but wasn't amazing to many the others I have bought from them.

90 minute decant however and it's a completely different drop. Bought more cases after that

        • Great to hear. Not blowing my trumpet here, but used to be a Sommelier at a two hats American Express A La cart restraint/resort many years ago in a different life haha

I'll give it another chance. Quaffers typically get guzzled too quickly here and there's not even time to contemplate a decant :)

@WineGuzzler: Haha, you're not alone there.

P.S. I have not tried this wine, so you may be on to something after all.

Will know after opening two bottles, as one can be tainted or not a sound sample.

Probably why so many people are returning them.

"Over 1800 dozen sold so far and many returning buyers."

    • Username is appropriate for this deal

    • I bought 3 cartons of this a few months back. You can't drink it straight away, let it rest in your wine glass for 45-60 minutes. It's a good wine after that! Even a wine aerator is not enough to reduce the resting time.

    • @WineGuzzler
Please give us a call and we will arrange a return and refund for you.

  • Took a punt for a case. Will make some nice gifts as well as drink a few. Thanks OP.

That rrp has to be fake?

    • +2

100% BS RRP's that the winery has. On the producers website their top wine 2016 Angas King Reserve Old Vine Shiraz has a RRP of $275, but says cellar 4-10 years. A legitimate wine at that price should cellar 15-20+ years. Basically bait marketing to try and sell the wine cheap through websites that mainly market via super high percentage discounts. Funny how much this stuff is around now since wine was basically unable to be sold into China because of the tariff.

      • Agree with your views here. The 2016 Angas King Reserve Old Vine Shiraz is going for $175 at

Dans only for delivery I'd say direct from the winery, and that is priced high for that wine like you

said with James Holiday rating this as a 92 pointer. Let's face it, if a good wine get's posted to

OzBargain by a wine companie's sales rep, it most likely is not that good of a deal or else it

would have sold earlier for a bit more. I also got drawn into the hype and ordered a case, so let's see…..

        • Final conclusion?

It's nice wine, my case arrived yesterday, had to sample a bottle…..you know…..just in case.

Bold, smooth, great to drink. Solid Shiraz.
Totally decanting this for a few hours always will payback, just like any decent heavy shiraz….
(eg….all I do is pour the whole bottle of wine into another glass container….hell even a 1L pyrex jug/bowl will do)

Let it sit for a few hours in a cool place, the wine gets to unwind, relax, chill out, like a genie which has been couped up in a lamp for a few thousand years….then whammo, ready to drink (not the genie)

Sometimes, if I can be bothered, I will then pour the wine back into the bottle (use a funnel for this!! preferably a clean one!), especially if I have guests.
Serving wine from pyrex…..not a good look :) haha

Probably going to buy a few more cases….

Sounds good. Hard to get a bold smooth aged shiraz or any red these days for under $15 a bottle.

I'm not a wine snob, so will enjoy it according to the price.
