I just went in to the Rockhampton store plannig to buy this at $1398 like it was on the weekend. I got a shock when I got there and it was advertised as $1599! After asking a store person however, he came back and told me it is actually $1198. So $200 less than I was prepared to pay for this apparently excellent TV that seems to be out of stock nation wide. The Rockhampton store had at least 3 more in stock that I could see.

I have to call BS on this, unless you can provide a link.
The 55" VT50 is $3799
http://panasonic.com.au/Products/VIErA+televisions/Plasma+TV…Is it possible you mean the UT50?
or 50 Inch VT from last year
or a UT but the UT is the bottom of the line, so that would seem expensive
I bought the same TV from HN a couple of months back for the same price ($1.2k) - best TV for the price.
Love Panasonic Plasma.
This is coming from someone that has a Sony LCD!
+1
I have a 42" Pana going strong from 5 years back, and a 2 year old 58" Pana that hasn't skipped a beat :)
Includes Avatar!
would this be any better then my japanese vt20 since its newer?
Vt20 is 2010 or so right?
not a chance
this is two models down
although only 1 panel downgrade ( st and gt share same panel)
it would be an improvement in weight and size though (thinner)The ST50 is supposed to be better than the VT from 2011. So it will kick the snot out of a 2010 model.
I would think that they'd be pretty similar in terms of picture quality.
Funnily enough our VT20 died about a year after purchase so it was replaced with a GT30. Both seem very similar.
I also have a GT30 and am wondering in which ways the ST50 is better. Seems like a great price nonetheless.
Got one tonight - hopefully delivered in next few days!
Did anyone negotiate a cheaper price? Do the Woolworths discount cards still work at Dick Smith?
I just added something to an on-line cart, and proceeded to check out, No Woolworths discount applied.
I guess it has ended, they didn't mess around implementing that.
Got this few weeks ago for $1300 - absolutely incredible TV and they're selling fast. CNET gave it 5/5
EXPIRED
For the same amount HN were selling the flagship VT50 for $1200 previously, two models up from the ST series.
