Domain Backorder Recommendations

I am interested in obtaining a '.com' domain (for personal use) that has been previously registered but now expired by the original holder.

WHOIS details reveal the domain is now being held/parked by a domain registar, with new expiry date next year. The domain redirects to a page asking the original holder to re-register, I tried clicking through to purchase but can not.

I am wondering who the best company would be to place a backorder with if/when the domain becomes publicly available.

Some info for you here: https://www.cloudflare.com/en-gb/learning/dns/glossary/expir…

Could be in for a long wait. Especially if their registrar is the type to camp on expired domains waiting for someone to offer them big bucks for it.

  • I don't know of any commercial service that offers this without entering the negotiating-with-parkers territory.

Not sure how tech savy you are, but if you're comfortable running a Linux script pm me.

I've written one in bash which periodically queries Cloudflare and compares records (NS, A, CNAME, MX), alerting me if there's a change. While I principally use it for auditing and fault alerting, I also have one or two long term parked domains in my watch list. Failure to renew means the NS record disappears, which triggers an alert message.

  • Seems like a popular question at the moment I've answered this a couple of times this week alone and unfortunately there's no one fits or answer.

As it depends on who the registrar of record is? The life cycle of a.com domain name can be found here but unfortunately, the biggest problem is what happens at the end of that life cycle which is dependent on the registrar of record most registrars will send it somewhere or will do an auction themselves.

You can check the registrar record is using this tool here it'll be listed under "Registrar Information"
