Concerning Request from Cashrewards

I just received an email from cashrewards about a hotel booking that didn't track. Cashrewards never tracks this hotel so something in their system is broken but usually an email fixes things (this has happened over 100 times for me).

But today I received a request for:

"I’m happy to help you out with this. May you please send through your order confirmation from the store showing your payment details/payment method used? The more info we can get from you, the quicker we’ll get you sorted and back into collecting those rewards."

Do I read this correct that they are asking for my credit card details?

This is one of the most dodgy requests imo.

Why would they even need my credit card details when they already had the purchase invoice from the hotel showing paid in full and all details except my credit card details. This is straight from the site linked on their website.

Anyone else had them ask for credit card details?

Payment method request is just how did you pay.

Like with a Credit card? PayPal? Direct Deposit No need to give your CC details or anything. Your invoice may show how you paid but I dunno what you order/paid for.

Anyhow, nothing particularly special with the request.

order confirmation from the store showing your payment details/payment method

They want the order confirmation email that shows how you paid for the booking, along with the amount paid, plus the details of the hotel reservation. If you booked through Booking.com for instance, that email might have been sent from <[email protected]>

It may or may not show the last 4 digits of your credit card number.

Well. That sounds like a grammatical / phrasing issue by the customer service rep that confused you, rather than something suss or out of the ordinary.

        • -8

If that was the case I don't see an big issue but thought it was either automated or a template.

If they wrote the email and made a small mistake I don't see it as badly.

    You are reading it wrong.

Notice how everyone else knows what's what.

        This is a you problem.

If they want my payment details emailed through it's not worth the risk.

Rest of the details to do the claim they already had.

What did the Cashrewards rep say when you emailed back asking for clarification?

        • Hasn't replied yet.

      • +3

Just resubmit your confirmation/receipt, happens all the time when different reps handle the ticket
        Assume you've verified it's a legit email.

Does your order confirmation from the store contain your credit card number? No? I thought not.

What are the chances OP isn't following the rules for cashback? Honey, adblock, double dipping?

      • I know how to use cash rewards but some stores on there don't track through properly so need to be done manually. I'd guess if you have never had a problem with cashrewards you either don't use it often or just use very common sites.

Either way, why purchases don't track isn't really what I wanted to discuss here cause there is already plenty of discussions on that.

        • So in all your many many problems with Cashrewards you've never seen that copy paste? Lmfao

I wouldn't put it past you. Considering you're the only one who thinks CR are asking for your CC details when everyone else disagrees and you don't believe it.

I’m trying to read this as charitably as I can, and I have been handing out my credit card number on the net since 1995 (“send the number in one email and the expiry in another”).
Just tell them it was a Mastercard or PayPal or whatever.
If they say, what was the card number, ask if they need all the details or just the front number.
And if you get skimmed, cancel the transaction.
CR are owned by ANZ, they aren’t going to defraud your card number, they already have it.

OP, they aren't asking for your card details & it's not dodgy at all, you're just paranoid and jumping the gun unnecessarily.

Order confirmations never show the full payment details, it will likely just say Mastercard/Visa and the last 4 numbers of the card used [They can't do anything with the last 4 numbers of your card]. In addition to that they want the order details (namely the amounts and the Order Number) so they can confirm with the vendor, confirm everything is correct and then process your cashback accordingly.

    • The reason I thought it was dodgy is I had already sent through all the other information.

They had amount, order number, dates, paid in full etc. All they didn't have that they asked for was how I paid or my payment details because these weren't on the confirmation the store sent.

I really did this post because I don't think it's right they should be asking anyone to "show my payment details" and I don't know how this information could help them track the cashback at all when I have already confirmed payment from the store.

Do they intend on sending these payment details to the store to confirm? if not what use is this to them when have a statement from the store showing paid in full.

      • Just send them (upload) the order confirmation and/or invoice as per what you received - They just want amounts and to confirm that you actually paid for it (which they will confirm with the vendor anyways). Very much doubt they will ask for your payment details, perhaps they're copying and pasting a script.

        Normally the invoice/order will say:
        paid by credit card xxxxxxxxxxx1234
        12/1/23 17:31

That’s what they are asking for, not the card numbers

  • This is one of the most dodgy requests imo.

Well, this is a little awkward… ain't it OP? 🤣

    • Payment Details: order confirmation / receipt / proof of purchase
    • Payment Method: how you paid

It's okay to misread or misunderstand things. But you crusading against them over their wording is ludicrous. Just provide the details and if you have already then reply that you have or just provide them again and if it's not enough, ask them to specify what exactly they need. And if you really want to, you leave a polite tip at the end of the email telling them they should word that better because you were confused.

You have confused payment details with purchase details.

      Payment details: Payment Details means a unique set of characters identifying a bank account, or a bank card, or an account in a payment or another system provided to a physical or legal person or a group of persons;

      • +4

That's one great definition of Payment details, so clearly you can use Google. How about you Google what a slash means between words and then apply that knowledge to the words you're conveniently ignoring on your crusade.

        Here, I'll even help.

Slashes (/) are used to show options or to indicate that two words are interchangeable.

        payment details/payment method used

It's clear to everybody, except you, that they want to know how you paid.

  • Do you own the hotel or you trying to do dodgy things on claiming big amount of cash back regularly on same hotel?

Or maybe you used points/credit/freeStay for the hotel coz of multiple visit/stays which resets/covers the payment figure ? And yet still trying to claim the supposedly available cash back? Nice try and I might have tried the same thing, but wouldn’t chase it if this happens.

If u really did pay for it, just send them the statement and blur out partially the credit card number and other transactions.

I am sure they have other ways to obtain your credit card and address details easier than what you think. Or they might already have it from the very first purchase u made through their website
