LG 65" OLED EVO C3 4K UHD Smart TV (2023) $3060 + Delivery ($0 to Select Cities / in-Store) @ Appliance Central

710

First time deal poster, apologies for any errors.

A mate has been waiting for the 65" C3 to go on sale for a while, did a Google search yesterday and saw Appliance Central has it for $3060 which is pretty good (but not the best seen) deal for this TV.

The Good Guys flat out refused to price match, however JB was willing to with no issues.

I purchased my 65" C1 from Appliance Central a year and a bit ago, had no issues, would recommend again.

Enjoy.

Glad too see centre stands are coming back into trend again, instead of those stupid legs at either end of the screen that were all the rage the last few years.

    • +7

I prefer it, no wobble and doesn't interfere with SB.

      • +6

        Living that wall mount life.

        • +2

I had cut my power cable to fish it through the wall… bcos LG did want to spend $0.10 to put an 8 type socket.

          • @raybies: Yeah fixed cables are just the worst, I mean why?!

            • @reactor-au: Yeah, tell me about it. The C9 featured a removable panel for cable disconnection. It was already on the wall so I could see too well, and I took a bunch of screws off the C3 around the power cable, but that was to remove the whole rear panel… so I just cut .the cable.

              • @raybies: Beside the inconvenience, you risk the manufacturer not honoring warranty for cutting the cable. Unnecessary hassle.

                • @reactor-au: I’d be more concerned about house insurance being voided in the case of a fire.

Hope you kept the receipt to prove the work was done by a qualified electricians.

                  • @PainToad: Maybe on the off chance the fire resulted from the plug or maybe TV.

                    • @reactor-au: There’s no maybe about it. If an insurance company can use dodgy electrical work as an excuse to not pay out a claim, they will.

                      • @PainToad: Mate, if your house burns down
                        a) either there's nothing left to say the plug caused the fire
                        b) or the plug is a ok and clearly not the cause,
                        C) or somehow the plug is the cause and they have clear evidence

There is no valid scenario where they can blame the plug when there is no clear evidence to prove such.

I've changed maybe 3 or 4 dozen plugs in my life and never had any issues with the plugs or insurance because of said plugs.
But you do you and get a sparky to change a plug for $80+, I'll keep doing them myself.

To buy now or to wait for potential Black Friday sales, so tempting to upgrade from my old Hisense…

No guarantees for future deals so if you want it, just do it.

  • I managed to snag the LG 65 G3 for $3150.00 a few weeks ago.

    • +2

      Where from?

      • Yeah, do tell!

        • It was a price mistake on appliancecentral. I snagged it

      • +4

Possibly from the JB deal where they gave 22% off the tv if you bought a soundbar from the same manufacturer. And at the time G3 was $1000 off around $4.4K.

        I bought a 65” G3 with a LG soundbar for $3400 and sold the soundbar and stand for $450. So under $3k for a 65” G3.

So JB price match appliances online - that's good to know as I have my eye on this https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hisense-65-u7kau-uled-min… which is cheaper at appliances online - anyone have this TV that could comment :)

    • +6

      Hisense :(

      • My 2 year old Hisense died on me a while ago, at least I got a full refund out of it from JB. Holding out for the 55" LG C3 to go on sale.

    • +4

I don't have this TV, but I'm also hunting for a TV at the moment.

With hisense just be wary of the reviews, as most of them are American and the Australian Hisense TVs do not have the same panels as the US ones do (we have shitter ones)

      • Ah interesting, I went to look specifically at U8K today seeing it got good reviews but was underwhelmed. Could international differences be the cause?

        • The panels are often good. It is the software if history serves me correctly. US versions get proper Android TV which is faster and less bloaty than the Hisense stock OS (also better app compatibility). The stock OS isn't terrible, but does not enhance things at all.

    • +1

Just message the JB chat, they price match me the 42 inch (from $2595 to $1695) and 48 inch ($2330 to $1995).

  • I’m itching for a 65” G3 deal.
Do Black Fridays have deep discounts?

    • -1

I wouldn't worry about G3 if you plan to use a soundbar. C3 and G3 are identical in every aspect other than the in-built speakers.

      • +5

C3 and G3 are identical in every aspect other than the in-built speakers

This is false, the G3 has a heatsink and uses MLA, so it can go significantly brighter than the C3.
        https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/lg-g3-oled65g3

Not everybody needs that additional brightness, but the G series is more expensive for a reason.

        • Thanks for correcting it, it wasn't clear on the LG website.

  • +1

Big difference between the C2 and C3? I want to use it for mainly gaming, pc and console

    • +1

You will want to aim for the 42", assuming you have a standard depth desk. At 65" the pixel density isn't high enough for productivity.

The 42" is also on sale for $1695 (https://www.appliancecentral.com.au/oled42c3psa-lg-42-inch-c…)

      • Sorry, should've elaborated that I want to use it as a TV from a typical 2m ish distance away - I have a wireless controller setup and like to use my PC like a gaming console. Just wondering if there's any major differences between the C2 and C3. Do they still make the C2 and would it be more likely to pick up on a black friday special?

        • +1

Ah no worries. I don't think there is much difference other than C3 being brighter? I do know the service menu was relocated on the C3 but it is insignificant if you're not using the TV as a monitor. Also don't think the C2 is still being sold unless you can find old inventory.

    • +1

You get DTS decoding + WebOS '23 and that's it.

  • +1

When JB price match the TV, does that include free shipping as well?

    • +1

If you are in the store then you can pick it up.

If you price match online then you can choose the delivery method and the shipping fee may vary depending your post code (ie doesnt include free shipping, to answer your question). You can of course choose to pick it up yourself at a JB store to avoid shipping cost.

^based on my recent purchase experience

    • No, but you might be able to haggle.

  • Been happy with my 5 year old LG Oled. Sadly I've noticed burn in (even though I don't keep my screen on any static image). Looks like a serious of digits in the lower-centre part of the screen.

    • That's what you get for watching infomercials

      • Lol. I wish it were that easy to explain. Who knows. I find it mildly annoying but not enough to buy a new TV just yet. Will reconsider oled if this is what I should expect

        • Lol, I have no other explanation

        • +2

Apparently, the resilience to burn in has increased over time, including in the last two generations. I don't have one so can't tell but am interested in one.

I also heard it's important to leave it on at the switch

    • -4

      Does anyone watch with subtitles?

      • +7

Me, about 90% of the time.

      • +2

Yeah I do so I don't have the TV too loud after midnight.

      • Yep.

      • 99% yes indeed … after a while you 'see through them,' but refer to them when the speech is muffled or you can't crank the volume for whatever reason

    • +1

Did you game on the TV? Perhaps it is the speedometer from racing games? But given you only notice slight burn in after 5 years is quite ok. Hopefully they go away with the regular pixel cleaning over time.

      • No gaming. It was probably subtitles

    • Should have turned pixel jutter on and used the screen saver mode (not a custom one).

A lot of the time, people don't turn the anti burn in features on.

Series of digits in lower part of screen sounds like gaming or some kind of home screen with a clock burn in

      • +2

I turned on all those modes built in to the LG TV… I checked the position of the burnin on the screen : it's exactly where subtitles are.
And no, I don't game on my TV. I don't game at all.

        • Interesting - thanks for your feedback! I would have thought the subtitle text would change frequently enough to not cause burn in such that you could read the letters, although I guess it would often be high contrast and in the same place. I suppose some phrases would be pretty common to be repeated a lot, e.g. 'indistinct chatter'!

I'm on the lookout for a 42" C3, hopefully the anti-burn-in features have improved in the last few years…

Ordered and price matched a 55" from JB. They've confirmed the bonus offer of 6 month kayo/binge still applies

    • Tell me more, I read LG just offer 3 months trial for AppleTV.

      • The 6 month kayo/binge offer is from JB. Unaware if LG has their own offer

  • +1

I asked Bing Lee and they declined the price match. Best they do is $3500

  • +5

Can some industrious folks please check:
    - JB Commercial
    - GoodGuys Commercial

And come back with what the prices listed are?

EDIT: Wow I’m impressed someone decided to neg this comment? It’s an ask for help in the run up to Black Friday to coming up with an expected baseline for the OZB community.

Last year I compiled historical & expected prices for all C2 models and then commented on any C2 posting that came up, which was favourably upvoted, enjoyed by community. I don’t have commercial access anymore — so I can’t do it alone this year.

    • +7

FWIW typically a LG C-model 65” comes to $3000 in Black Friday and $2500 for the next year in March/April post-CES (these are historical dips). These are safe price points you can expect.

The reason this year will be interesting is we are heading to USD-AUS being 60c (keeping cost high) battling against high interest rates + little generational leap between C2 to C3 (potentially lower demand therefore lower cost).

Based on this data point, it’s keeping in trend. It’d be nice to know the commercial rates though since they are early tells.

    • +2

Just had a look and good guys commercial doesn't show in search results - not sure about JB

      • +1

Ah cheers @urbancartel appreciate the check! I’ll compile it if we see it pop-up

    • Tggc quoted me 3,748.00 2 weeks ago , hope this helps ! For the 65inch c3

      • +2

Thanks @warmmilktea — does seems odd to be that expensive given LG’s own price for C3 65” is $3695 — I’d expect commercial to be $3250 currently.

Might be worth subscribing to LG yearly random luck wheel in meantime as backup for potentially 30-40% off ticket price (I think the lowest for C3 65” will be $2300):

I have a Tv with burn in issues as well. I did buy a C3 OLED this year before my other OLED showed burn in and I regret going for another OLED now. LG doesn’t help with your display replacement, although the burn ins are specific to OLED’s

    • +3

That's strange. They must have changed their policy . My B7 had burn in about 2/3 years after i purchased it. Well out of warranty , LG were great came out replaced the panel , it has been fine since with everyday use. all it took was a email to them. If people have burn in maybe see my previous posts on the procedure. Again it was painless and they came out quickly.

I got the 48 inch for $1995 at JB (got them to price match) yesterday.

Use the 3% discount JB gift (from Macquarie) card for extra discount.

I almost had another Monday OzB heart attack… installed my C3 65" just last week… lucky I got it for the same price + $55 delivery. Usually how this plays out is I wait months for the right price, buy it and then next day come on here and there's another deal for substantially less.

  • Anyone thought of buying the jb gift cards that are coming on sale soon then using them to buy this? Others have mentioned Jb will price match so could get a 65" C3 OLED for around $2700 potentially

  • Would the c3 be comparable to the s90c or s95c?
The reviews online don't ever seem to be a like for like.

    • +2

WOLED has slighly inferior quality, especially around colour saturation, but not so much on the luminance side.
LG seem to be better on the sw side w/ Gsync, Dolby Vision and I think DTS licensing.

I would have gone with a S90C if the price was the same.

    • +4

      https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/lg-c3-oled-vs-samsun…

This link compares C3 and S90C - pretty similar.

The LG C3 OLED and Samsung S90C OLED are similar TVs occupying the same market position. Of the two, the Samsung is the better gaming TV and slightly better overall TV, while the LG is the better TV for movie fans. The Samsung has a wider color gamut and gets brighter than the LG, especially in HDR; not only that, but it also maintains its HDR brightness better in Game Mode. It also supports 4k @ 144Hz, while the LG is limited to 4k @ 120Hz. However, the LG supports DTS audio formats and Dolby Vision, making it great for Blu-ray fans. It also has better low-quality content smoothing than the Samsung TV, making it better for watching streaming content, especially in low-bitrate situations.

Just got my local JB price match. ApplianceCentral is one of the retailer they are willing to price match

  • I'm waiting and hoping for the 83inch to go to $5995 from $8995 jb had a 1 day sale I could not afford it at the time I had not the money. I do now but I hope the 83inch goes to 6k or cheaper again. I want the g3 but the 83inch does not have mla in either model.

TheGoodGuys with FRENZY23 code brings this today to $2956 (24 October 2023).

Unfortunately this cannot be stacked (at least online) with "buy a soundbar for 10% off both" with LG SC9S — EDIT: I might ring up and see if I can get it done over the phone/manually as it comes to expected Black Friday/Boxing Day sale prices. Leaving logic here for future references.

    • Well that's annoying seeing as the old sale price was until Wednesday. Going to contact them to see if they can price match my order to the current price :/

  • Anyone able to connect the TV to Google Home?

  • I just went to JB Hifi to get them to price match the C3 65" and they currently have another 20% off TVs. I got the TV for $2895 including the $59 delivery fee.
