1/2 Price Pop Box Mega Butter Microwave Popcorn $2 @ Woolworths

110

More of an FYI and deal, Pop Box Microwave Popcorn is on sale at Woolworths.

I've had the Mega Butter flavour before and in my opinion it's the closest thing to having cinema popcorn at home. Poppin' Triple Butter doesn't come close in terms of both the amount of overall butter and butter coverage. Even though it's double the price of Poppin' when that's on sale this is well worth it.

  • I heard a while back these contain some dangerous chemicals.

It's better to pop corn the old fashioned way with some oil.

Are you talking about the chemical that this claims to not contain? Then again there is the unidentified “vegetable” oil…

      DOES NOT contain Diacetyl.

      • I think the issue might be the PCFs they use for the bags. The PFCs break down into perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), and make their way into the popcorn when you heat them up….

PFOA is a possible carcinogen, a possible liver toxicant.

        • I hadn’t heard about that one in relation to popcorn, only the diacetyl which is the artificial butter flavour that was supposedly linked to lung disease.

        • This comes in a box. Whilst you do raise a valid concern I’m not sure it’s applicable here, nor would I suggest people eat microwave popcorn every day.

If you use Teflon pans, and if your pans have even any sort of micro scratch on the surface you’re getting exposed to PFAS (of which PFOA is a member) as well. Not trying to minimize the risk of eating bagged microwave popcorn, just saying.

    • It's was dangerous during manufacturing due to workers huffing large amounts of it without PPE. The amount of respitory exposure to the end user is extremely unlikely to cause any ill effect.

The disease is also known as "popcorn lung".

  • So is this dangerous to eat then?

    • I don't think anyone here is qualified to answer that…

      Eat at your own risk.
