  • amazingly cheap, hope this last for long term

I've forgotten to cancel the 14 day trial twice but luckily have refunded me both times.. Don't think I'm going to risk it again for this post but great post none-the-less!

    • +3

kogan is quite good with the refund of the first kogan…so agree with you

      • +1

Would have to agree, I forgot about mine and had it auto debit me for a few months. I asked for a refund since I didn't buy anything during those periods and they actually gave it to me

    • +2

I've done my trial once, that'll do me. This is a good deal but I'll wait for similar from Amazon.

EDIT: After reading Amazon reviews for products 5-10X more expensive it seems these are gimmicks and barely get hot. Certainly that 50W find below mates up with that. Looks like this is probably junk.

      • Thanks for that research! I didn't read before but it looked ok. But now I remember buying a super flimsy usb fabric heating pad thing that you were supposed to like, sit on? Or maybe put in clothing and run a small powerbank to a pocket to heat up a snall 20cm x 20cm flat area. It had super flimsy wires in between a thing fabric cloth that I was for certain would one day break and either electric shock me or burn me alive. Used it less than a handful of times, not worth them even making that dangerous landfil garbage.

Also btw, it's available on eBay for $13.53 using code PLUSTOPOCT.

They definitely work, have one in my roof top tent and it's so good for camping in winter. Pre warm the bed at night and it's so warm when you get in.

I then run it on a timer so that it runs in 30 minute cycles or it gets too warm in there for my liking.

Edit: Not this exact model but the anko from Kmart that draws a similar current so I assume similar result.

  • $49 shipping to my address :'(

    • :(

      • Still a good deal as I'll ship it to the in laws and pick it up next winter

    50W

      Good find, this is junk.

    • +4

You wouldn't want to.draw much more than 50w continuous from a little car 12v battery.

Potential there for a RV / van conversion / caravan.

    • +1

I have one for car camping (separate battery). It's very weedy, but makes a big difference getting to sleep in Winter without running the engine.
But yeah, do not expect anything close to a typical mains electric blanket.

  • +7

so like…. why not just turn on the car heater when driving lol?

    • haha…fair enuf

    • +2

That's it. Still, I imagine there'll be some idiots driving whilst cocooned in one of these things.

    • I use this in the car as my husband likes the window open, and caravan as can use on 12volt when we are in the caravan.

    • It's.an EV range thing.

For example, Say the battery has a usable 11kwh and the heater draws 2.5kw. 2hr.drive and you have lost half of your range in heating.

The preference is to use heated seats (around 50w each). Guessing if you don't have heated seats (ie. In the back seat)…you get this blanket.

      • This is also 50W

        • Yes… 50w is about the max continuous draw you want on basic car 12v wiring.

      this is for sexy times

There goes my cold weather "shrinkage" excuse.

    • +6

heated seats for $8.99 on 20 year old camry , better than bmw subscription

    • Takes time for the engine to warm up. I want heat now, not in 15 minutes. Generally by the time the car has warmed up, I'm already minutes from work.

  • Does Kogan still send out massive amount of marketing spam emails if you make a purchase on Kogan? It’s like they sign you up to a dozen mailing lists.

Guess your body will warm up blanket faster than it warms you.

    Great for Darwin

For anyone interested, it's available on eBay for $13.53 using code PLUSTOPOCT.

  • Also, wondering if this would also be landfil garbage? πŸ˜…

    • Will work, but take a long time. Spend a bit more and get a 5 Amp or more.

      • I have a couple decent sets already for the cars and motorbike but I get lazy to use them because they're a lot more pricier and I'm a stinge.. 🀣 Wondering if I can grab this as a throwaway trickle charger for the motorbike that I can just leave around and not worry about damaging.. πŸ˜…

        • Trickle charging doesn't work. The reaction will just dry the battery out. SLAs / AGM still lose product (in the form of gas) while charging.

Lost count of the number of times people launch a jetski, it doesn't start…"can't be the battery…it was on a trickle charger". Yeah…you killed it. Some come back by injecting a few mls of distilled water.

Set a timer to charge once every 3 weeks in summer,.and every 6 weeks in winter. Discharging is a reaction. Reactions occur faster when it's warmer. Battery will last almost forever. 1Amp charger will do this just fine. Just do the maths, 20amp hr battery will need 20hrs from flat (unlikely to be flat). So I do a charge of approx 25% of capacity in cycles as above…ie 5hrs at 1amp every 3 weeks for a 20ah battery.

It looks ok for an EV owner :) Can use it while charging at a public charger with window open.

  • Your car doesn't have heated seats? Wow.

    • +2

      They make heated Recaros? Wow.

      • Yes, cross sportster.

        • I know, but they don't sell.. 🀣

      • +1

Cars with Recaros are usually warmed by the firewall with the carpet and rubber stripped away.

        • I believe that's called TRANNY heat. πŸ˜‰

    • +1

Your car doesn't have a 6.3 litre V8 to warm the cabin? Wow.
