Recommend Me a Laptop Please - Budget Hard to Say

Hello, can you please recommend me a laptop?

My needs are:

  • Prefer light portable and sleek looking
  • Prefer USB c charging
  • Prefer good quality bright screen for outdoor viewing on a sunny day
  • Prefer touch screen so I can jot down notes on the go. Additionally, need it to be either a 180 degree fold flat or detachable keyboard so that it is actually practical to write with a pen.
  • Need 4k video editing capabilities so probably i7 or strong i5 with 12 or 16gb ram.
  • Storage space doesn't need to be huge but at least 256gb

Thanks a lot!

    • Thanks mate. Any opinion on the surface vs other brands flagship 2 in 1?

  • Yeah the Surface line is the one to look at. Quality machines, probably the closest thing to Apple in terms of build quality and reliability.

    • Cheers. Any input on Surface vs

      Lenovo Yoga
      HP Envy/Spectre
      Asus Vivobook
      Dell Inspiron
      Etc etc

      • No idea. Just know Surface gear is cool af and well built. I'd still gladly use a gen 1 Surface Pro to watch videos and play emulators on.

      • Pretty sure only one of those has a separate keyboard: the others are all 180° hinged screens.

        • I actually prefer the 180 hinged screen because that way it has a sturdy keyboard so I can use it on my lap. As opposed to it tipping over on unflat ground

          • +1

@activ8newbs: Yeah sorry, when I replied here I for some reason thought you were not wanting the 180° hinged screen, but on second look it was one of your suggested form factors…

Agreed on the screen tipping - Microsoft Surface devices aren't as well designed for true lap-top usage as a traditional laptop due to that. But apart from that specific use case I think they're great. Can recommend the ASUS 180° hinged laptops (the one I have is a Vivobook Flip TP501UB).

    Get a matte screen protector

    • Ok sure thanks

      • +1

No worries. On my desk I've got a Surface Laptop facing the window and the screen on it was basically unusable until I put a matte screen protector on it.

    pls

Do you need auto correct software as well?

    Budget?

    • Please*

BUdget is hard to say hence I left it out. All the above are kind of necessary so as cheap as possible with all those things

  • Hp Spectre X360. The oled should be good for outside, although a bit fuzzy compared to a decent LCD. Cheap as its on sale atm.

  • Agree with others based on your requirements surface would be your best bet. However it’s not the best performing machine. Last time I looked they were a little bit behind on using latest gen processor. Lenovo T14 or X1 yoga or HP 840 i7 1370P are examples of better performance.
