Looking for a New TV, Worth Waiting?

Looking to get a new TV, 55 or 65"

I like the Samsung's as they are quite thin still, most of the others fatten out at the bottom

There is not much in the way of sales at the moment and someone told me to wait until end of November as there are always really good TV deals on then, Is it worth waiting ?

Ozbargain deal alert, sit back and wait!

    • Good idea! cheers

  • Do you have access to any of Samsung's EPP stores?

There have been some brilliant deals in the last 2 weeks, Samsung cleared out it's 2022 models and scored upto a 60% discount.

    • Yeah, had a look in ithe EPP, i think they all sold out

      • For the moment yes, keep an eye out, they do pop up but with very limited stock.

If you want a 2023 model, they are about 30% depending on what you want.

If you can wait see what December has to offer. If not, Samsung could give you a loyalty voucher too, I think it's 15%

        • How to get loyalty code?

i don't mind the fat bottomed TV as they seem to have better speakers and don't need a speaker bar.

    • Ill be running a sound bar regardless.

Honestly given TV's haven't come very far over the past couple of years Marketplace and gumtree are full of decent Smart QLEDS & even OLEDS

    • True, just trying to work through all the junk or dodgy sellers is the challenge

      • Asking prices from sellers are typically discounted from their purchase price and not from current/discounted prices of newer models plus their depreciation.

Yes, I heard the 2027 models will be really good…

      Cool Story

They probably will be actually. Samsung are already advertising a microLED. By 2027 they may be affordable and maybe we'll even have a nanoLED.

      • advertising a microLED

Yeah, I might wait for the Series II though in 2029.

  • I'm also waiting for Black Friday sales.
Deciding between TCL C845 or Sony x90L
I think Sony is the winner for me though.

      waiting for Black Friday

      It was 3 days ago…

      • No, that was Friday the 13th

        • If a Friday falls on the thirteenth day of a month, it is called ‘Friday the 13th’ or a ‘Black Friday’. Some people consider this date unlucky.

          https://my.christchurchcitylibraries.com/friday-the-13th/#:~….

          • @jv: "Black Friday is a colloquial term for the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It traditionally marks the start of the Christmas shopping season in the United States. Many stores offer highly promoted sales at discounted prices and often open early, sometimes as early as midnight[2] or even on Thanksgiving. Some stores' sales continue to Monday ("Cyber Monday") or for a week ("Cyber Week")."

              This is OzBargain….

              • @jv: With any amount of common sense, you can see the discussion was around "Black Friday sales" As per my post. Black Friday sales occur in November every year.

                  was around "Black Friday sales"

Yes, I bought something from JB on Friday.

  • The future is holograms.

    • Using morse code ???

  • Retailers are very keen to move stock now because it's so quiet. Hit up a Hardly Normal or Good Guys on a Sunday arvo and you'll see for yourself.

Manufacturers are throwing enticements out there as it is that quiet time after Fathers Day and before the black Friday/cyber Monday sales.

    Go negotiate something now.

I had the exact opposite experience, at least at the GG and HN I went to looking for an LG G3. They didn’t want to consider anything remotely approaching the EOFY sale prices. I was pretty discouraged so I will probably wait until Black Friday, rather than trying another suburb.

      • Interesting and understood. I guess the motivation of the sales person and the proprietor can vary from store to store. I am a brand ambassador for coffee machines on weekends, sometimes at HN and I was talking to one of their TV guys about this just last weekend as I was there for the day.

  • Personally I wouldn't just consider how the TV looks physically. Picture quality is the top thing of course but typically the good brands are just as good as each other in the same price bracket. The other things to consider are the Smart TV features if you are using those, have a play see which OS you prefer. And the other thing to consider when buying one brand over the other is the remote. Seriously. My old man got a Samsung 75" recently and it's remote sucks badly, too minimalistic and very inefficient even just to change between the major FTA stations. He went and bought a third party "One For All Remote" from Jaycar that's much better. Personally I think LG has a much better remote over Samsungs.

    • Agree'd but my requirement is for it to be as thin on the wall as possible due to the location and for the purpose of this question i have only asked for that

the picture quality, smart elements etc i have my requirements sorted there

  • I can remember when people would ask about the picture quality, rather than how fat or thin it is when you watch tv from a right angle.

    • Ok.

  • Don't overlook tcl. I have a 75 and it's great and under 1k. Good warranty as well. I think people get carried away with wanting the best but when it's in your lounge room they all look pretty dam good.

    • Will check them out for sure, which models are under 1k ? I only want a 65"

  • Best to wait
