Apple TV+ Monthly ₹99 (~A$1.89), Annual ₹999 (~A$19.10) via Apple Store Card from Amazon India (India Apple ID & VPN Req'd)

2980

Please follow the steps

Step 1. Create an Indian Apple ID at appleid.apple.com/en-in . You go to "Create your apple ID" You enter your first and last name, India, date of birth, an email that you have not used before for Apple, and your Australian phone number, change the prefix to Australia (as they will send you confirmation codes) .

Step 2. Go to Amazon Australia to your account and add an Indian address.

Name: Your name and surname
Street: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Int'l Airport Rd
City: Mumbai
State/Province/Region: Maharashtra
Postal Code: 400099
Phone Number: 1234567890

Step 3. (Incognito mode recommended) Buy an apple store card on Amazon India. You log in with your Amazon account. Write the desired amount (999 rupees for Apple TV+, which is what the annual cost is). You click to pay by card and write your full name and your card (Revolut it's recommended, but any card should work).

Step 4. They will send you a code by email to the email you have in your Amazon account. Now download the Apple Music app (both IOS and Android). You log in with the email you created in step 1.
You go to the settings (top right over the 3 dots). Click "Account" and then "Redeem gift card or code." Copy and paste the code that was sent to you by email (App Store Code). And you will already have your 999 rupees in your Apple account. Important : Add the Indian address from step 2 with the same details in "Account" - "Payment Information" in the Apple Music app. Mod 14/5/24: If you cannot redeem, see here.

Step 5. (Incognito mode recommended) Visit tv.apple.com and log in, click the profile picture at the top right and then click "Settings" . Scroll down to "Subscriptions" and select "Manage". You select the monthly subscription of 99 rupees and click to accept. After completing the monthly subscription, you again go to “Subscriptions” and “Manage” and switch to the annual subscription of Rs 999 which is cheaper than going month to month.
Although VPN India might not be required, in case it doesn't direct you to apple tv India, switch your VPN ON to India.

All content will be the same as Apple TV Plus AU. No VPN will be required to watch.

  • Something very odd (in a good way) happened for me. I loaded the 999 rupee onto the new Apple tv + account all good. Then a couple days later the pending Amazon charge was refunded back to my Up account for some reason? Checked the Apple account today after the free trial period was over and the 999 rupee has been taken and new expiry date is October 2024. Very weird, but obviously not complaining.

  • On step 2 when I tried to log in to Amazon.in, it says my password is incorrect but when I logged into Amazon.com.au with the same info it worked. Did anyone have a workaround? Or do I need to create a new Amazon India account?

    • Have you entered your indian details on Amazon AU? After you do that, then you go on Amazon India and sign in with the same password.

      • Ah so I had my AU address as default and when I changed the Indian address to default - it then allowed me to log in. Thanks

  • It works! Super easy! THANK YOU!
How about following years? Stack up Indian Amazon gift cards or add somehow Australian credit card for auto-renewal?

  • Anyway to get the code resent in step 4? Checked junk and can't see it?

  • Hmmm I keep getting "Your request could not be completed at this time. Your account cannot be created at this time." when creating a new AppleID

    • Same here 🤷‍♂️

    • i got this error repeatedly using edge on windows 10. india vpn/without vpn,incognito/without, au mobile/fake india mobile, no difference. tried again with normal chrome on a mac with au mobile and it worked first time

    • I was able to get around this by signing up on my MacBook

  • Thanks this worked great

When creating my Indian Apple account, I keep getting the following message:

Your request could not be completed at this time.
Your account cannot be created at this time.

I'm wondering if they're now geoblocking or using the +61 mobile number to block…

    • I tried it on a different Mac and it worked.

    • I got over this by putting a random indian phone number and then when it sends a confirmation code to that random number, you then get an option to change the number. It worked on the 3rd attempt

  • Gift Card unavailable.

    • Worked for me, I was able to buy on Amazon India just now.

      • No idea what I'm doing wrong. I added my indian address, set as default. Log in. tried to use the link but when I put 999 and click pay it brings me to an error page 'Looking for something?
We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site.

        Go to Amazon.in's Home Page'

        • Did you end up sorting this out? I am getting the same issue.

  • I'm currently getting tripped up on step 5…

When I go to do this, it says that I need to add payment details along with a billing address. The latter is no problem but there seems to be no way around the need to add UPI billing details.

  • Maybe you missed this step on Step 4?

Important : Add the Indian address from step 2 with the same details in "Account" - "Payment Information" in the Apple Music app.

    • ahh yes I think I did. I'll do that now.

    • hmm now it's asking for UPI details in the Apple Music app on my iPhone when I try to add account address in too.

    • OK, found the solution. You go into the Apple TV app on the iPhone and subscribe to the 7 day free trial with renewal at 99 a month. It then tells you invalid address and you get a form where you can just enter the address, not the UPI ID.

  • Thanks op, very easy and works like a treat. Wouldn't accept my ANZ credit card but accepted my ANZ debit card.
Had to set VPN to india.

  • How do i bypass the UPI requirement?

  • First of all how do I create an email account without a mobile number. My phone is already linked with my email id.

  • In my confirmation email from Apple, they say 'This purchase was initiated from Australia.' lol

  • I've bought the INR credit, now in Amazon.in, but am getting repeated errors:
"Your request could not be completed at this time.
Your account cannot be created at this time."

I've tried across browsers (started in incognito Safari, but thought maybe they're wise to such things, tried Edge, Chrome, Firefox), also its a free Indian VPN extension, and without, with Adblock off, incognito help!?

  • I had the UPI issue and none of the above methods worked. I had already added the 999inr to my account and already updated the address.

So here is what I did.

I bought a new 100inr gift card, and when adding that it gave the option to redeem a month of free Apple Music. I accepted that and it then allowed me to sign up to Apple TV. Hope this helps someone!

    • 'Adding' as in when you bought the 100inr it prompted you to redeem, but you didn't get the same prompt when buying the 999inr? (I didn't)

      • I did but I ignored it the first time around

  • Apology, this is OOT.
I can't install "AppleTV" app on SONY Smart TV.
Anyone experiences the same problem, and have a solution for it?
atm, I use FireTV dongle on HDMI port as a workaround.

      • Thanks for the tips.

  • For anyone facing UPI issue, VPn to India, open music app on your macbook —>Itunes Store - Account - Update Indian address (No UPI dropdown)—>go back to store page —> Redeem

  • In Step 3, I enter the amount and click 'Pay'. However, the website displays an error message stating: "Looking for something?
We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site."

Is there any way to fix this problem?

    • I'm getting this too. I've tried VPN and no VPN, and both incognito and normal.
      Any solution ?

  • For those having problems with Step 1 SMS verification. I tried a 2nd time using the phone call option and that worked.
But now step 3 doesn't work.

  • I was able to redeem the code and ensured that my account had an Indian address, but I was prompted for a UPI ID when signing up via the browser. So, this is what I did:

    1. On my iPhone, go to Settings -> Click on your account
    2. Select Media and Purchases and sign out of your Australian account (don't worry, this is temporary)
    3. Sign in using the Indian Apple ID
    4. Verify that the Rs. 999 is reflecting
    5. Open the Apple TV app on your phone and it should allow you to sign up without prompting for any UPI ID. By default, it will give you the monthly option after a free trial. But you should be able to go to your account subscriptions and change that to a yearly subscription.
    6. You can now sign out of your Apple Indian account on your iPhone and go back to your Apple Australian account.
    • This worked for me when renewing. I kept getting asked for the UPI ID but this method got me around it. Thank you!

  • If you're getting stuck on the UPI screen, you can choose the net banking option and select any bank. This worked for me

  • Thank OP, finally got around to doing this and it worked no issues.

In step 4 when i go to account in apple music (android phone or windows laptop) there is no option to add gc or code. First line on the phone is "None" and a target icon, on laptop its upi id. Been doing everything to the letter before that. Any thoughts? Cheers

Same issue - what worked for me was to download the Apple Music app from the Windows Store on my PC. There the "Redeem" button was available. I redeemed and then proceeded to Step 5 of the guide without issues, signing up to Apple TV+ on my browser.

      • hmm…no windows device…anybody else find a solution to the missing redeem button?

        • I repeated all steps on MacBook and it did have "redeem" button

    • I am also having trouble adding my gift code!
Just as well I only paid for one month.

  • Eeeeeeeverything worked like a charm. Thanks OP!

Can I use Apple Store Card from Amazon India to get YouTube Premium?

    • Yes

  • Thank you so much this saved my YouTube Premium

    • How much it is?

      • I purchased a 2000 rupee gift card for about $36 Australian should last for 8 months as the family plan I’m on is 249 rupee per month

      • They just increased the price to 389 rupee per month if you bill through Apple or 299 rupee direct, still that’s less than $7 a month for the family plan through Apple for YouTube premium

    • Hey @japius

How did you get this to work for Youtube premium?

I have created the appleID, bought some appstore credit from Amazon India (havnt redeemed yet), what would the next step be?

      Thanks!

      • Nevermind, I ended up sorting it out.

        For all those reading:

        1. Redeem app store credit on the indian AppleID app store
        2. Sign in to youtube
        3. Purchase premium - This automatically asked me to pay using my app store credit, i was never prompted to select a credit card. It also asked me to confirm a few details (Indian address, phone number, etc) - I just used a randomly generated address, set my phone number to 1234567890 and it worked (I think it asked me to confirm details because I have never made an app store purchase).

Then I went back into youtube and completed the purchase.

Much easier than the VPN method which doesnt work anymore anyway haha,

        • hey, I am trying to do the same, just wondering: what device did you use to do the youtube purchase? youtube app on iPhone? if so, how did you get it to recognise that you're purchasing from India?

          • @sadgalsecret: I just used a spare iphone i had laying around, but it should work with your primary device.

In the app store, click on your name/profile icon and choose to sign out
Then, sign in with the indian account and redeem your code.

I should also mention, the appleid i created is the same gmail as the family manager of my google account.

Once i logged into youtube with that account and purchased premium, it showed everythint in indian prices already, i didnt actually have to activate a vpn or do anything else.

            • @amityaaron: amazing, i just tried this out and it worked perfectly - thank you so much!

FYI - i used a different apple ID email to the family manager of my google account, so it seems like that might not be required :)

              • @sadgalsecret: did you need a vpn?

i've created my apple id account and loaded it with credit but when i open youtube app and select get premium it says something along the lines of "you need to purchase from india since your itunes account is set to india"

                @amityaaron

                • @cheap4321: I did not.

Hopefully they havnt patched this :/
I need to top up my account!

        • Can this be done using an android phone? or you need an apple device?

Hi guys, my Apple TV yearly subs is up for renewal in Oct'24.
What do I need to do so that I can keep going on this 999 rupee plan? Do I buy the Amazon GC again and redeem?
    Really appreciate your help.

(Got burnt with Disney Plus Turkey increasing their yearly plan cost etc. so hoping to avoid it happening here with Apple TV).

    • +1

This is what I've done. Looks like the plan is still the same price in rupees (was actually AU$17.84 via my CC), so went through Steps 3 + 4 again. Couldn't seem to redeem the code via the Apple Music app on my android phone, but saw it mentioned above that it works on the Windows store version. So tried this and it allowed me to redeem the credit. My renewal comes up next week, so assume it'll just roll on with the credit in my account.

      • +1

I did the same.. except I found an older apk of Apple Music (v.3.8.0) that still has the redeem button. ₹999 sitting as a balance waiting for subscription renewal!

        • +2

Got an email saying my subscription has been renewed with the ₹999 payment. Looks to have worked :)

          • @messiah1095: mine expired before i got on it. i did get 2,000 rupees in case i forgot again next year. however after i redeemed it (luckily i keep an ipad mini just to deal with apple 'things'), the balance just sits in my appletv account. I didn't use apple music to redeem because the tv app has a redeem gift card function too.

Under subscription, I still see that 'your payment method was declined'. Update payment method doesn't allow me to use the giftcard. Are you saying apple automatically deducted your balance to extend the subscription as I don't see that option available in apple tv.

oddly though, i can still access all content on appletv+.

EDIT: So in the appletv app, i selected 'see all plans>' and then rescubscribed to the annual option and now my balance has been deducted with a renewal date of 23 October 2025. seems like a manual process at the anniversary date. It will not automatically use your giftcard balance i think. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

            • +1

@plentifoo: It auto renewed for me with the amount I'd put on my account. Didn't need to resubscribe or anything.

            • @plentifoo: My subscription has expired and i'm trying to renew it. I purchaased the gift card and it's showing ₹999.00 in my balance.

When I click on "renew" or see all plans and then resubscribe to the annual plan, they both ask me to to enter my payment details and only giving me the option of "UPI".

How did you get it to use the giftcard balance? I'm using the web browser on my PC & the apple tv app on my android. FYI, I don't have an iphone. Maybe this is the issue. cheers

              Edit: found the solution https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14426413/redir

  • Thank you. I managed to subscribe to YouTube Premium Monthly by following these instructions. Do you have any ideas on what to do once the balance runs out? Is it possible to add an Australian card as a payment method? Thanks in advance.

    • did u need an apple device?

  • +1

FWIW I've been getting regular reminders saying that "Your subscription to Apple TV+ was not renewed due to a problem with your current payment method." because I didn't have enough balance in my account. I finally got around to doing the dance - vpn to India, logon to Amazon India, buy apple voucher, fire up Apple Music, redeem the voucher, then go into Apple TV. When I went in, it offered me 2 months free so accepted that and then also subscribed for 12 months so all up cost ₹999 (currently AUD$18.78) for 14 months. Win. ;-)

    • I didn’t use a vpn

      My process was on iPhone
      - go settings > media and purchase > sign out
      - now Sign in with your Apple India account
      - go to Amazon India and buy the gift card
      - App Store > profile icon > redeem gift card > accept Apple TV offer for 2 months fee and sign up to the yearly plan
      - if you don’t get the offer I presume you can just open the apply tv plus app and subscribe there

  • Ok so I got to Step 5, but there's nothing there and no subscriptions to manage. The only option I have is to accept the 7 day Apple TV+ free trial on the Apple TV+ web page, which is then R99 a month ongoing. When I select the free trial it asks for a Payment Type and the only option is UPI, which requires a UPI ID that I don't have. The Apple Account Balance is not an option for payment.

The only option I see is to maybe wait for the 7 day free trial promotion to end and then maybe I can just buy a month for R99 with my Apple Account Balance.

If anyone has any ideas on what to do they'd definitely be appreciated. Thanks

I followed the steps in the post exactly, but ran into issues at step 4.
Based on other comments, here's what I did to redeem and then active the plan.
On Windows PC, used Microsoft Store to download Apple Music. Inside Apple Music I was able to redeem my gift card.
Then downloaded Apple TV on Microsoft Store, and that allowed me to active free trial. Then in the same app I could go to settings, subscriptions and switch to annual billing.

    • Thanks for the tip, my annual subscription renewal is due soon, so after purchasing the 999 rupee Apple Store Code, I was able to redeem it via the Apple Music app from the Windows Store and the credit was added to my account.
