Has anyone in SA looked into and signed up for the Tesseract Energy Zero deal?
A solar system and battery installed for zero cost AND 28c per kWh for the electricity you use (for the first 3 years and 25% below market rate thereafter) sounds too good to be true!
We all know the saying that if it sounds too good to be true….. 🤔

Thanks for your analysis.
I guess that a best case scenario would be not using more electricity than generated and stored but amongst many other factors, the size of the solar system and battery they install will be critical.
The last I heard of the tesseract was Loki stole it
🤣
That was what I was thinking.
I rang Tessaract energy and they told me if you should move house with in the 10 years then whoever moves in takes the contract over. After 3 years you get the option to buy the system at a heavily reduced price or go on with a discounted price per kilowatt hour. It seems like a good deal they want to install at 13.3kw system and 9.8kw battery on my house I am about to fill in and sign the contract.
That's a decent sized system and battery!
Are they installing top tier panels, inverter and battery?
I would be very interested in getting an update from you on the quality of the installation and whether you use more power than generated and stored. 👍
My sister was just about to go with Tesseract. All seemed good until she got the contract. It wasn’t very clear and had a number of areas that needed clarification. ie: they tell you you will get charged .28c kWh for a set 3 years, but in the contract it says 5 years. When contacted about this she was told it was because it was an old contract and hadn’t been updated, but is now 3 years. As a lawyer found numerous points in the contract that weren’t clear, she decided to keep looking. It doesn’t mean they aren’t legit, just the contract isn’t up to scratch.
It's 28c per kWh for power used from the solar battery setup. Meaning that if you use power above and beyond that you'll be charged market rates, "You will continue to be responsible for any electricity not provided by the solar battery system. "
It's also a 10 year agreement, most people who buy solar will have a payback period of 3-5 years, they'll continue to charge you for usage. Your options will be to either pay them for that solar or go through whatever process to remove it and add your own system. Basically you're tied in as a customer forever (edit: I read the FAQ, it's 10 years)
So basically you're just renting a solar battery setup off them and the website has zero details about what happens if you want to stop using it, that'll come down to the agreement with them. If it's a reasonable price later down the road it could be a good way of funding it. But I'd do a close comparison to what it would cost to just install it yourself.
