FAQ thanks to BG

Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including July 31 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" " or "SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong. Possible fraud scenario: API returns during purchase - credit to @himalpatel. Live chat advised that if you faced the above fraud scenario message, you need to use your friends details (aka a completely different details) to order
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. Using as a "recharge" is being dis-allowed and activating first and moving the number may be allowed but is frowned upon and may not be allowed in future depending on how you ask for it.

Enjoy!

    Wakey wakey @WatchNerd

    • Thanks, living the dream continues.

  • Again? Why do they keep giving free money?

    • +1

Because they're loaded and for tax purposes.

      • +6

Marketing manager/s trying to improve their KPIs

        • x number of sign ups and users. They're going hard. Feels like there's a new Boost deal every few days.

          • @Caped Baldy: Not sure why they keep changing the offer??

            • @Paul B: Marketing nitwits… um, I mean, experts… Fooling themselves or their bosses so they look like they're busy in order to justify retaining their jobs.

    • Telstra probably earn more than enough money from phone and internet plans.

    • -1

they sell your data to the darkweb and get loads of money

      • George Sorros will get alll your data and sell it to the CPC

  • Are people porting existing numbers out to $2 sim plans then porting back in for these, or just discarding old numbers and getting new ones?

    • +1

What is the $2 sim card you are talking about?

      • I'm referring to the starter kits you can get, though I suppose you'd need to activate a plan on that to actually do the port out.

So, in that case, are people just starting new numbers each time for this? Does Boost get upset at that?

    • +4

A lot of people I gathered have signed up to a cheap annual deal for their main number. Then utilise these just for data. So essentially they get ~50gb of free data for a month and also these deals help subsidise their annual deal. Since it’s pretty easy to get $99 a year prepaid plans. It’s easy to just swap out sims every 28 days.

      • +1

Ah, okay. I use these SIMs for data heavy IoT purposes and have no issues changing out the SIM and discarding the old number - so I'll go down that route!

      • +1

You need a dual SIM phone for that to work conveniently though. I have one (an overseas Samsung phone) and it's amazing.

If you don't call or SMS much you can even get a cheap PAYG plan for the main number (amaysim, aldimobile or similar)

        • +2

You could use an eSIM and boost combo. But then options are going to be more limited finding providers offering eSIM support. I just throw these sims in my old Android phone and use it as a hotspot. Less convenient but does the job.

    • +1

No, I port out to another provider offering a decent deal for $10, then port back the next month. Might cost a bit more, but less of a pain.

    • Are people porting existing numbers out to $2 sim plans then porting back in for these, or just discarding old numbers and getting new ones?

      Yes.

      • (In other words, both lol. Depending on need.)

  • My 3 previous purchase was tracked but have not been approved. How long until people actually get their cash back?

    • It will give you an estimated approval date on your cashback summary. Usually 90 days

    • +2

Read the FAQ. Generally, it looks like around the end of each month. So August should be approved at the end of October, provided you've activated.

  • Prefer the 65GB plan but this will do

  • JIT - for renewal , thanks OP

    • What is your process for renewal?

  • If only I could buy one

    • How long were you able to buy them during your last 'open' period?

      • +2

Was able to purchase from 8 March to 27 June.

Then it stopped working until 19 Sept, and kept working until just 26 Sept and since then I haven't been able to buy again.

        • I feel like there is some kind of cool down that's at play rather than a straight trigger for anti-fraud. The fact that first time buyers get the SWW error is just bizarre.

          • @wavesgreen: I've been watching closely because this is my only internet… and it feels completely random, lol.

  • Looking for an annual Boost prepaid deal. Vowifi works well overseas and I am very happy about.

    • $50 Cashback is available on the $300 plan.

      • Thank you.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Bugger. I just bought 6 Sims on last deal ($2.50 profit).

    • +1

      Refund them and get these

      • Just keep buying more

  • 28 day sim is coming to an end. Chat said to call up and they can do a sim swap to another boost sim. I excitedly called up but on the phone they said no -_-

Any suggestions to port out and back in for as close to free as possible?

    • Oh, we are helping them get through their to-be-defunct stock? Oh well, fair is fair.

    • Port out to Telstra $2 starter sim and port back in

      • How do you port to a $2 SIM?
AFAIK you need to activate it with a plan

        • I ported out to Telstra $2 sim and back in to Boost. No plan was required

          • @Bargainolic: Wow, okay I'll try that thanks

            • @ozilicious: I haven't been with Telstra for a few years, but it used to be: You buy a $2 SIM, activate it online (and port your number to it if you want), and it can now receive calls and SMS. But if you want to text or phone out, you have to charge it with some value. So in your case, you don't. (Assuming it's still the same.)

              • @[Deactivated]: Thanks for explaining, so all other providers you need to pay for a plan before you can activate/port in, so this makes Telstra unique?

    • Try calling again.
Most will allow it, just some won't.

    • You could also try your luck again in the live chat. I got one the other day that activated and transferred to my existing sim for a 365 starter. Even got it triggered to go 5 days later when my current annual expired.

I had purchased a $5 aldi sim but didn't need it this time.

Can we build new Cashrewards accounts by referring ourselves and buying these SIM cards again and again (never ending loop!) ?!

    • +3

That would probably be considered fraud. I'd advise against it.

      • Fraud for us. Good accounting for billion dollar companies that siphon funds overseas and steal from society.

    • problem is you need unique bank accounts or paypal accounts to cash out

  • Anyone experienced getting sent a faulty SIM card?

In the last deal I got sent a sim that would connect only to 3G but no internet data. The other sims in the past would connect to 4G without issue.

    • I've never had one but people have reported in previous deal threads of getting faulty sims. Boost CS seem to always say to go buy a $2 sim and then they can transfer the service across, which is kinda bs of course as not only are you paying out of pockets but also it risks your cashback as the original sim is not activated.

      • Mine actually activated fine. Just no internet data.

Receiving and making calls no problems. Using Waze/YTM is no good.

    • Not with Boost, with Lebara, but same process as wavesgreen described. SIM activated but didn't work. Contacted their livechat, rep eventually got through all his idiot sheets to land where I was 15 minutes ago at the start of the session - that yes, the SIM itself is dead - told me to go buy a fresh $2 SIM. Got home, livechat again, explained SIM was activated but not working, can you swap my number to this new SIM, "Sure, read out the numbers sir…" swapped. Bin old SIM, new SIM into modem.

  • Am i the only one not able to purchase?
"Something went wrong" since few deals ago.

    • +1

Yep still getting it for over a month. Could be fraud detection or an error. See pt 11 on faq.
Hopefully it’s an error and it’s fixed.

If it is fraud, I guess it’s been hammered to death by people buying heaps at a time for the profit and Boost upped the security. I’m gonna miss all the long term benefits of free sims and numbers. They far outweigh the small profit from these offers.

      • +1

It's random and has nothing to do with fraud. It's a false trigger. I think some delay in processing (server overload) or some faulty RAM in their server maybe, etc is throwing the wrong digit into their fraud detection line of code. That said, I buy mine late at night, when the chance of anyone else buying is low (so there's no strain on their system). And I use the same name, address, email - everything, every time. No problems yet.

If/when I do, I'll phone them on their last SIM every 30 minutes and I don't care if I get the same person, I'm going to speak over them if they say anything like, "As I said before we cannot help you sir" until they get so fed up they magically find they CAN escalate it to someone to do something about it after all - rather than fobbing me off to get me off the line. That's what all you other guys who have been blocked should be doing NOW as one block.

Oh and I'll do the #31# trick so they can't block the number: https://www.telstra.com.au/exchange/how-to-block-your-number…. And if they decide to look up my last active Boost number to block me that way, I'll just buy a new Lebara SIM and start the barrage again.

        • How many do you buy on average each deal?

          • +2

@ozilicious: First time I bought 4. Then several times I bought 2 each deal. Most recently I bought just 1 a few days ago. I bought that last one in the morning, all previous ones late at night. The last one glitched. I got some try again later message, and went "Oh no." Tried it again and it worked, but the browser was thinking, thinking, thinking (the spinning you get when the other end is deciding if it's going to work). Some 30 seconds later it did, but I too scared to try it again. That's when I started to suspect server load, faulty RAM, etc might be the cause.

If you're thinking it might be because people are buying too many SIMs, some people buy several each time but don't get blocked… while others buy 1, then next deal go to buy another but are blocked. All using the same name, address, CC!? And some can't buy their first one.

Also early on with these deals Boost was being more strict. There was a limit of 4 or something!? Anyway things changed at some point. Back then I entered a different email, CC, and added an "A" to my address because I was worried I'd get blocked for buying too many too close together. And I deleted the Boost app from my phone. But when the next lot of SIMs arrived, I installed their app again, activated them - and the app ignored all the info I'd changed, recognised who I was (due to same drivers license number maybe?), and loaded the new SIMs into the app along with all the expired ones. (My point being, if anyone was going to get pinged as sus it should have been me.)

People comparing notes on here and via PM from others tells me it's random and more likely to be some weird hardware glitch than a genuine "fraud detection" going on.

  • If I don't need to keep the number, can I just keep buying and using the new SIM card to be still considered as "New Customer"?

    • yes

      • Don't vote yes, vote no.

        • +1

$3.33 profit each time via this SB deal, must do three times.

    • I can't see the new offer, is it showing for you?

      • Maybe not available for someone who completed the offer released on the 9th.

  • how many cards can i buy in a day?

    • -2

I've retired thanks to Boost sim deals with profit.

      • +1

LOL. A neg. Some people have no sense of humour. It was funny AND he answered the question without answering it!

  • I have one Cashrewards account that I set up with email A. If I buy 2 of these SIMS and when activiating with Boost, I activate one with email A, and then one with email B, will my Cashrewards still be valid?

    • +1

Yes, CR just require the SIM is activated.
You may have issues with Boost when activating, if using different emails under the same ID.

  • SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG
We’re sorry but we’re experiencing technical issues. Please try again later.

Looks like they need a new IT guy

  • So with these cashback deals, are people porting out every month, then re-signing back up to take advantage of these deals? Seems like a lot of effort to do this every month to save some $$$
Can you purchase a sim, and then "gift" the data to an existing annual boost plan instead?

  • are people porting out every month, then re-signing back up to take advantage of these deals?

    1. Yes. (If porting out/in.)
    2. No. (If accepting a new number with each new SIM.)
    3. Other. (If buying, receiving, activating, and discarding SIMs just to get the few $ cashback on each SIM.)

Can you purchase a sim, and then "gift" the data to an existing annual boost plan instead?

I thought you could gift your Boost data but can't find anything about it on their site apart from "no data sharing" but that's not technically "gifting." Belong has it.
