Damn this is a ripper of a price especially if you managed to get that $100 credit for $1000 Amazon voucher yesterday.

  • +7

It seems this is last year’s model?

    • +3

Still good watch, if you don't need the upgraded brighter nits on the 2023 model.

      • -5

Agreed. Just Amazon doesn’t make that clear.

        • +9

How do they not make it clear?

This year's model is the Apple Watch Ultra 2.

This listing is for the Apple Watch Ultra so seems perfectly clear to me.

      • upgraded brighter nits on the 2023 model.

Also the two finger tap gesture thingo and double the internal storage to 64GB.

        • +2

          two finger tap gesture thingo

Technically, you can use on the existing older model watch via the accessibility feature.

      • -1

sip chip is missing for double tap

    • +2

Indeed - this is for the original Apple Watch Ultra from last year - based on the Apple Watch S8.

RRP was $1299 and it's been floating around the $1100 - $1200 mark for the last little while.

      • this was 1200 @ costco from the releasing date.

    • yes its last years model you better off getting the ultra 2 it has much needed improvements.

    • Know your target audience.

      • I shared the alternative deal in my post and I agreed this post is a good price and upvoted it…plenty of people comment on other posts and say they were happy they got it cheaper prior and don’t get negged, not trying to trigger anyone, the S/M Beige/Yellow Trail Loop model is still available to order for Vodafone customers? For everyone else this is a good deal

  • +1

    Fantastic watch, absolutely love mine.

    • Do you need to charge it very often? Was thinking to grab one to replace my S7

      • I went S7 to AWU2. The battery life difference is significant. I lose around 30% over 24 hours with a workout involved (up to an hour). Charging whilst I am in the shower each morning restores it perfectly for me (for whatever reason the S7 didn't charge as quick). So after the charge I am usually at 75 to 80% and then down around 50% before charging the next day.

        • Should I go for ultra 1 or ultra 2?

          • @firetree: I get three days out of my Ultra 2. I don't think battery life was changed much / at all though so should be similar on an AWU1.

      • +3

i charge every night but not uncommon to go to bed with 70% left

Also another comparison, I ran the syd marathon recently the battery went from 100% at starting line for 69% at end, a normal apple watch would likely have been 20 or below.

When I do a typical 10k run the battery only drops 5-7% usually.

  • Is this worth upgrading from apple watch 8?

    • +3

My opinion, after using it since day one.

      Pros:-
      -Titanium body - durable
-Sapphire Crystal screen - scratch resistance
-Good battery life - last me up to 5 continuous days without charging, but I disabled my AOD.

      Cons:-
      -Looks bulky/ rugged

      • I like bulky!

    • +4

Not from a S8. Wait another year or two. They say the 10th year anniversary will be some nice changes.

      I have a S6 and there is a big difference (I got the Ultra2).

      • +1

What about my S7? Does it worth to upgrade?

        • Probably not because the S7 and S8 differences were very minor so what applies to S8 should also apply to S7. There were actual display improvements from S6 to S7 onwards so the ultra actually looks nicer (display wise and looks wise) compared to a S 4 5 6.

Having said all that, if you have $1039 burning a hole in your pocket, by all means grab one. It's a great watch!

    • of course but if you need to spend big money anyway, why would you even think of ultra 1?
      ultra 2 is much better

  • Looking for a deal on the series 8 or 9 41mm. If anyone has tips please lmk 🙏

  • Price match at Officeworks?

    • Do they do that?

      • Not usually for Prime deals, but sometimes you can can lucky if you call.

  • +3

Am I the only one who's eyes widened with that price for a smart watch? For those who both it, what about the watch that sold it to you?

    • +8

It’s a lot more than just a smart watch. It has a lot of legitimate use cases and benefits, especially when you consider that traditional ‘entry level’ watch brands like Tissot start at around $1000 for their basic automatic movements.

For starters, it’s great for those interested in fitness and tracking. Syncs immediately with your iPhone so all your data and insights are within reach. It may actually turn out cheaper than buying a dedicated fitness tracker like the whoop band, which has a monthly subscription. This doesn’t.

Also for those jobs in which you can’t necessarily have a phone on you at all times (construction, healthcare, etc. etc., this is really useful as it can function with its own sim, which means you can still get important notifications.

It is a bit bulky to wear at times, and some days I don’t even put it on, but if I had to choose between an Apple Watch and a ‘traditional’ watch, I would always go for the former. Just my 2c

      • +1

        I’ve gone the opposite way.

Bought the Apple Watch when it was first release (S0) - bought a Tissot PRX a year ago and I rarely use my Apple Watch anymore.

For the amount I’ve spent on upgrading Apple Watches over the years I could’ve got myself a Rolex.

Remember that the Apple Watch is still a piece of tech and will never be worth more than it is now….whrere else a mechanical watch depreciates much less and may even appreciate in value.

Although not everything in life should be viewed as an investment….this is why house prices are cooked

        • +1

Even if we take an average price of upgrading your Apple Watch every year, let's say…$500 (taking into account the sale of the old one)

          9 Apple Watch Models * $500 = $4500 overall amount spent

Please show me where you can get a Rolex for $4500, I would like to buy one too.

          • +1

@hellousyd: Maybe he got the first edition in 18-karat gold then ceramic and all subsequent Hermès editions 😁

          • -1

            @hellousyd: Rolex Cellini 18k 750 White Gold Case Ladies Watch. Ref:4081 Cal.1600 $2,999
Amazfit band 7 $45 does most of Apple, lighter & < 18-day battery (not slave to daily charging ;)

        • It is a silly comparison to be honest. Apple watch is a tiny wrist computer that shows time. A watch is just a watch and a dumb one at that - can keep its time accurate, change dst or time zones automatically etc etc

    • +1

If you like to track your health (sleep, exercise), a smart watch is particularly useful. I'd pick my Apple Watch over any high-end watch for that alone. The Apple Watch IMO is also superior than the Android counterparts in terms of performance. I've tried the Galaxy, Huawei and Ticwatch and didn't really like them. It's probably the main reason I went back from Android to Apple. It's essentially an extension of your phone. Unfortunately its only locked to iPhone (would have loved if I can pair it with Google Pixel)

Though you don't need to drop $1000 for Apple Watch (the older series will do most of the jobs fine). And I personally feel the Ultra is way too chunky for my wrist. But for something that you can wear and optimally use for years, the $1000 investment is actually not a bad value, if you have the cash.

    • +1

There's dive computers out there that sell for more than this and don't go any deeper.

    • -1

My eyes rolled when I compared this overpriced gadget to the effective Amazfit band 7 for $45 (rrp>$100 but who pays that crazy price ? ;) with <18 day battery & only 28g extra light.

      • I myself have an old Huawei Band, and been happy with it as I like how light it is that I sometimes forget it's there.. I've been an early adapter of smart watches with Pebble Steel (RIP) as the tech ust made sense to me at the time. It was mainly for notifications & time, then step and sleep tracking but wondered whether I'm now missing out on a feature that's not just gimicky at the moment. I do have Swiss watches which I consider functional jewelry.

  • Wouldn't it be a better deal getting it from Vodafone on a plan? 12/24/36 months repayment periods with overall price of $999 https://www.vodafone.com.au/smart-watches/apple-watch-ultra?…

    • +2

You need to already be with Vodafone on a postpaid phone plan. It's unlikely anyone would sign up to Vodafone for a new phone plan to get the watch. But if you are already with Vodafone, definitely better.

      • right, yeah, makes sense. I am still on cheap $30 plan with Woolworths mobile and switching to Vodafone would mean at least extra $15/month or $180/year. and also $5/month for cellular on AWU.

Now I wonder what's the best provider/plan that support AW cellular.

    • I'm really annoyed that Telstra removed the 36 month option for Apple Watch plans.

  • Good price, however taking into consideration that the new Ultra 2 is $1299 and you can use discounted gift cards plus the new specs I’d still recommend buying Ultra 2. People have glossed over that it has a new SOC, and that in general it appears the SOC has a three year lifecycle for the Apple Watch. You will use the Ultra for many years to come.

    • I think AWU2 is $1399.

      • Dahm, you are right. Forgot about the price rise of the newer model. The price of this deal is really good then in comparison.

        • +1

yeah, but those switching of GPS AW or new to AW need to consider extra costs of enabling cellular on AW.

It seems like there are still only 3 providers that offer synced plans and the cheapest synced plan would be Vodafone ($45 + $5). If I decide to switch from my SE Gen1 it will be extra $240 a year compared to my current mobile plan. Over 3 years it is at least $720 on top of the current price if you want to enable cellular.

  • +4

    for the OZB ultra rich

    • +1

fool & his money are easily parted.
It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled ;)

  • +1

Whaaa? Over 1K for a digital watch? lol

    • +1

You're so right! The Apple Watch is basically an insult to the glorious history of wrist-worn timekeeping. I mean, why waste your money on a cutting-edge device when you could wear a Casio calculator watch like it's 1985? Forget about all those bothersome features like weather updates, fitness tracking, or GPS directions; who needs them when you can perform complex arithmetic equations on your wrist while looking utterly stylish with that monochrome display? Apple must be kicking themselves for not adopting the timeless charm of a Casio calculator watch. What were they thinking?

  • +4

Just buy a Hello 3 watch for $50 on AliExpress. You can't tell the difference and it works great. Pretty much the same components used. Check it out, I love mine.

    • +3

      Lol

    • +1

      LOL

At this point just don't wear a watch.

      • Why do women wear so small watches so they can't see the time?
They are not interested in time but in looks/brand ;)

    • +1

      You had me at Hello

    • +1
    • just buy a mickey mouse watch for $5

  • If anyone doesn't want the included band I will happily buy the Small Orange Alpine loop

    • I just ordered one from amazon, and I don't want the small orange alpine loop, happy to sell it if you are interested.

      • Definitely interested. Message me details

  • I was thinking about upgrading from a S7 SS but it looks comical on small wrists.

  • +2

This watch is huge - so keep that in mind if you're thinking of it. Try it on at an Apple store first!

    • yeh pretty stupid for a smart watch. esp with sleep tracking - GL sleeping with this brick on

      • so get the normal watch then!

        • and i did, are you alright??

  • Price matched JB with gift cards.

    • called OW, was told they couldnt find the part number n couldnt price match

  • What's the point of tracking your sleep?

  • +1
