Good price for an 8 camera/16ch NVR kit - I think I've spent more so far on 6 cameras and the 8ch NVR. Get it here, and it looks like you can also use the ZIP5OFF code if you're paying with Zip.

  • Is it the best price?

  • These easy to install yourself or most people getting an electrician in for this?

    • They are pretty easy to install if you have some basic tools and are willing to clamber around in your roof for a while.

The cameras themselves are just fixed in place with 3 x screws, and you may need a drill with a small hole saw or step bit to cut through your soffit or wall for the wiring to pass through. If you choose the locations of your cameras with a bit of planning, there's not a lot to it.

It's technically a regulatory requirement that ethernet wiring inside your house should be done by a licensed cabler. However, the kits come with an 18m long pre-made cable for each camera, so unless you need longer cables or to put cables inside wall cavities (which can be a bit tricky) no technical knowledge is required - it's literally plug and play.

I would suggest that most of these kits are self-installed, regardless of the regulations.

  • 4 pcs here

  • How good is the night vision on this? Does it do colour night vision?

    • It has IR LEDs that do a decent job. If you need longer distance night vision, they may not be so great.

It doesn't do colour night vision

  • Am I correct that these D800 cameras are discontinued by them? I cant see them selling them anywhere apart from this specific bundle. Are the discontinued or just their lowest model camera? How do they compare to the rest of their cameras?

    • I think they are just cheap bundle ones to rope people into their ecosystem.

I bought a 4 camera bundle and I am only using 1 from it. I bought a Duo PoE, a Trackmix PoE and a wifi camera for the back.

I'll be using the other cameras to cover the inside of the garage and the laundry door.

    • Not discontinued, just only sold in the kits. From what I've read, they are essentially equivalent to the RLC-820A cameras, with a few differences:
      - they can only be used with the NVR, not on their own
      - they are 20fps instead of 25fps
      - they have no SD card slots to record on-camera
      - do not provide native RTSP feeds
