What's The Difference between Buying an iPhone from JB Hi-Fi and Apple Store?

I've got ultimate home gift cards (Restricted to JB/officeworks), but I'm having trouble getting apple gift cards because JB reps are telling me they're sold out/limiting their purchase because of giftcard fraud. Is there much difference besides first 14 days return policy? What if there was a screen crack, or some minor malfunction with audio or something. Can I go to Apple to get it fixed? What if I needed a refund because of a major issue?

Would applecare bypass all these issues?

Thanks!

    Not much difference tbh.
You can still get a repair/replacement from Apple directly down the line if you've purchased from JB.

Grab it from JB and Applecare it, no problem.

Only problem is that you'll have to deal with staff like this: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/MJ1wWrczFak

    • Yeah, I generally love JB staff. Usually really good to talk to - uni students, various other nerds, etc. I love hearing their perspectives on the product, their work, but mostly on unrelated things outside of work that they happily offer if you probe a bit - almost always very refreshing.

I only go to JB to use my perks vouchers, not for quality conversation/technical advice

Apple will honour the warranty irrespective.
Jb hifi and Apple Store is largely similar, except Apple Store allow change of mind returns/refund within a 2 week period (provided the product is not damaged). Jb hifi and other retailers don’t allow change of mind returns.

  • Australian consumer law and warranty applies to all Apple products regardless of where they were bought. I have AirPods Pro 2s (bought from officeworks) which I had to take to Apple for audio imbalance and they told me that the ACL is 2 years from purchase date. Best part is that Apple will practically never ask for a receipt because they can verify if a product is real and when it was first used.

Australian consumer law and warranty applies to all Apple products regardless of where they were bought.

Not applicable to grey stock such as from kogan/dicksmith etc.

      • Yes, it does have to be the Australian model.

Apple Store has a 2 week no questions asked refund policy, even if you unwrapped and been using the phone. You can swap to a higher capacity if you want, or get the Pro version, or get a refund and go buy from JB. Otherwise the warranty is still the same, Apple will honour it exactly the same if you buy from them or from JB. They never ask to see a receipt anyway when you get a repair done, they broadly already know where you got the phone anyway. You can try your luck and get Apple Store to price match JB, they've done it for me, but I don't think they are obliged to.

You might want to look at Costco. The phones are, often, cheaper and they have a 90 day returns policy.
