  • The thought of throwing all those batteries our erks me. There a deal without or are you really hoping to clear both out? :/

  • What expiration date are on the batteries? I know they're probably good past that date, but I also don't think anyone would want to be lumbered with 84 AAA batteries that could all die or spring leaks at any moment.

Expiry is 2015 for the batteries.

    Drats…I need 86 batteries for 2 torches.

  • 84 batteries!

Do these torches guzzle them or something?
    Thats just incredibly insane O.O

    • It is, they don't (have one) and he's got 40,000 of them apparently. (madness!)

  • Presumably these are the basic cheapie carbon-zinc batteries (i.e. not alkaline).

    • They are Alkaline, and rather good quality: see the past deal for more details.

Are you posting this deal from survivalist bunker, but have decided that the world isn't actually going to end in 2012?

I have the stealth torch and batteries from a previous deal, overall very good quality, batteries and torch. Been using it over a year with no problems, only gone through a couple of sets of batteries. The box is nice inside, great for a gift.

I am not a torchophile but from my limited experience the brightness is good, as much as you would need to temporarily blind yourself or any stray wildlife that would get in the beam. The focus/modes are very useful as well.

  • Not certain how good it will be, but considering 2012 is nearing the end, better safe than sorry..
also grab myself some glowsticks :)

@REP - Is stock in Oz & ready to ship?
BTW - Why is postage so expensive ($15 to SA via courier) for the Glow sticks?

You just answered your own question, well done!

        Negged for being stupid!

Stock is all in sydney and ready to ship.

Site does funny things when you add multiple things together and other locations, if you send an email through to [email protected] we should be able to give you a cheaper rate. eg. $6 for 50 glow sticks anywhere in Australia.

        Thanks REP!
I've placed an order (#1352)just before your reply - paid $15 for postage. Can you refund the difference? Thanks.

        • Just to confirm, $6 for glow sticks + $6 for torches, = $12.

I will have the $3 refunded to your card.

          :-)
Thanks Rep! But if it's too much hassles transfering the $, just add something to the order instead - eg, extra glowticks etc…

        • Hi Rep,
Has the order been posted? I still haven't got any confirmations.
As previously advised, these items are needed for the weekend.
          Thanks….

      • Hi Rep,
Goods arrived today - Thanks for the fast delivery & extras.
        Cheers….

Panasonic alkaline AA batteries ranked about mid range in high-drain tests and nearer the low range (but not by much) in low-drain applications according to this website:

    http://www.batteryshowdown.com/

Not sure if the AAA batteries would mirror the AA results, but it's likely they are made in the same factory with similar materials. The website found nearly all alkaline batteries fairly similar in operational characteristics, it was mainly the value for money that changed between brands and sub-brands.

I have AAA powered torches in every room and all my family member's car glove boxes, so after a while battery costs do start adding up. Rechargebles are hopeless in cars (constant cooling/heating) and terrible in emergencies (the only two torches I had rechargeables in failed miserably last time we had a power outage, even though the batteries had been 'charged' the week before) so this bulk pack of 84 batteries should come in very handy. I also have seven remote controls in this room alone which all take AAAs (tried a single Harmony remote, it was hopeless for custom settings so I ditched it) so they'll likely all be used up fairly quickly!

For an emergency torch in the car glove box, I recommend the wind-up torches sold by Ikea. They cost about $8, look like a bright red pepper grinder, and are about the size of a pepper grinder too (about 7cm diameter, about 15cm long). I have used mine a few times now, and it seems to be well made.

In Ikea, these torches are in the children's bedroom section.

    I've got the power!

  • Mine arrived - I bought 2 sets. I'll use one for a helmet light, one for extra light on my road bike. Another will go to the girlfriend for her place, and the 4th will be in my car. Good deal.
