It says $129 when you go to the site?

Click on the promotion code tab and enter in Scarecrow

    • Did you use the promo code?

    • +15

      cmon buddy… rtfm

    • +10

They seem to be pretty busy now days, when they reopened after the accident (RIP to those who died) was the best time to go, $59 season passes, no lines, and everything had been through multiple safety audits.

      • +10

It's like that guy who goes to countries that have recently been attacked by terrorists because security would be tighter, tickets are cheap and the damage is already done.

        • +8

Or a person who drives behind an ambulance in traffic.

        • +6

or someone that flies a particular airline after they've just had a crash cos all planes would've been thoroughly checked multiple times

        • -2

or the person who uses the toilet after the previous guy dropped his spicy burritos as a #2.

      • +3

I wouldn't agree. The tickets were cheaper, no queues, but a half of the park didn't work and they had overkill safety measures like extra harnesses everywhere and two rounds of checks.
I had their passes last year - still no crowd, but otherwise a totally different story - the opened new rides, refurbished old ones.

        • Agreed that there was no new ride investment at the time, but you could get more rides done in a two hour period then than you can in a whole day now.

        • Dreamworld really screwed up when they opened their own water park so they could be a big 3 all by themselves.

Should never have done that… everyone only ever went there for the big rides so they should've just doubled down on that and gone ever bigger.

Probably why they skimped on maintenance because water park wasn't making any money.

" *offer available for QLD and NSW residents only (postcodes 2450-2490) "

  • +7

I am too conscious to what happened to that poor family, and how Dream World failed basic training of their staff and dismissed safety reports from the maintenance team.

    • +40

Horrible tragedy that should never have happened, but with that mindset you’d never leave the house or do anything.

      • -1

        so eliquaintly put.
        Thank you

      • +8

Nah. You leave the house. But you don’t put your life in the hands of a company that has a history like this place does, even if it is cheap.

They don’t deserve a second chance.

        • +9

But you don’t put your life in the hands of a company that has a history like this place does, even if it is cheap.

A “history” like this place? Please elaborate.

Every time you drive a car you’re putting your life in the hands of thousands of other road users. I take you don’t drive a car then?

They don’t deserve a second chance.

Yes they do. Just don’t go there. That’s your choice.

          • +9

            @aja12: @aja12
The Coroners Court of Queensland did a pretty good inquest.
They even released the findings, It might be a good start if you read that for your 'history'

            • +2

It was a “reportable death” in Queensland, of course the matter was referred to the Coroner. It’s a legislative requirement. And of course the inquest findings were published, virtually all findings are made public. The hearings and findings are a bit more extensive and complicated than conducting “a pretty good inquest”.

What examples of previous injuries or deaths at Dreamworld do you have?

      • +2

Nice over simplification, where you steer from "Dream world bad memoires" to attacking a straw man :)

    • +1

what a way to go right…

    • +9

Not being an apologist to management, but that sort of attitude of "the whole place should suffer because of management" plain sucks as Im fairly sure they are quire a large employer in the area and them failing has greater ramifications for the whole area.

It is disgusting that the management team allowed significant breaches causing loss of life but that is entirely on the hands of the employer's incompetence, not the staff. Lets just bring out the Guillotine for next time and if they fail, let the beatings continue until morale (safety) improves across the whole park.

      • Do you not understand that your attitude is why business like this get away with literal man slaughter?

Sure, they are big employers, but do you think that matters the family of the victims?

If the shitwhole had been fined into bankruptcy a void would have been left in the tourist industry and either the park would get a new owner or a new park would have been made.

But nah, just sweep it under the rug because $$$$

        • +5

I wouldn't say they swept it under the rug. They fired their ceo, had to implement tonnes of new safety measures and they were fined $3.6m.

          • +4

            @trentgibbo:

            They fired their ceo,

            Who cares?

had to implement tonnes of new safety measures

Which should have always been there

            they were fined $3.6m.

Which is nothing. The scum bag company got $3 million dollars of tax payers money that covered most of the fine.

            https://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/qld-politics/…

The money was meant for koalas, but they spent it on a roller coaster.

How anyone can defend this piece of shit business just because of a “bargain” blows my mind.

            • +6

@PainToad: Totally agree, the Koala fund was the last straw for me.

              • @Jessie Ryder: Get angry at the government, they ultimately approved the request to reallocate the Koala grant. Covid grants were allocated to many businesses, bit of a stupid reason to be angry at Dreamworld imho.

                • +3

@JordanM: Nah, get angry at both. Can't boycott the govt but def can dreamworld.

          • +3

            @trentgibbo:

            They fired their ceo.

It was reported that Deborah Thomas the CEO at the time was payed her full 12 months remuneration around 700-800k as she steps down as the CEO roll.

            • +2

@spriggan43: 800k for nothing sounds like a great “punishment”.

            • @spriggan43: That's standard for CEOs to get bs payouts based on a set of stupid agreements in their contract.

The OP said they swept it under the rug - I'm just pointing out they didn't really.

              • @trentgibbo: Except they did because the punishment was nothing more than tokenism.

      • +7

id never go back there again, the place should be closed

        • +4

At least some people have ethics.

  • -3

I still believe the introduction of these cheap local passes in the late 2000s ruined the place.

    1) Place became bogan central.
    2) Cheap tickets means no expansion, in fact shrinking over the years.
    3) Got to wonder about safety of a theme park operating under what seems to be a loss leader pricing strategy.

    • +6

      1) Place became bogan central.

Mate, that’s Gold Coast/Logan/Brisbane in general, not just the them parks (for the record, I live in the area before anyone gets offended).

      2) Cheap tickets means no expansion, in fact shrinking over the years.

The locals passes target at people that otherwise would rarely, or never, visit the theme parks due to the high cost, the lack of novelty of the parks, and the fact that they are not on in the area on a holiday spending money.

      3) Got to wonder about safety of a theme park operating under what seems to be a loss leader pricing strategy.

Theme parks operating in Queensland are now probably some of the most risk adverse, safest operating parks in the world. Just a shame that it took a tragedy to get there.

      • Exactly. Going to a theme park use to be an exciting event once a year or so. Now parents treat them like day care centres and let their kids loose every weekend.

        • +3

Parents at a theme park with their children? Horrendous! As someone who is being quite vocal about never attending Dreamworld, which is entirely your right to do so, how on earth does that that effect you in the slightest?

          • +1

@aja12: Because I use to love the place. Before it turned to shit.

    • +1

I believe it may have also brought about several positive aspects. These lower-priced passes have made the park more accessible to a wider range of people, fostering inclusivity and community engagement.

The increased foot traffic from local residents has not only strengthened the park's ties with the community but also had a positive economic impact, benefiting surrounding businesses and creating job opportunities. Moreover, the affordability has contributed to a family-friendly environment, encouraging families to visit more frequently and improving the park's overall reputation. In sum, while there may be concerns about revenue, the introduction of cheap local passes has brought about a range of positive outcomes that have enriched the park's appeal and success.

In addition to the positive aspects, it's worth noting that while the annual pass price may have dropped, there have been significant increases in various fees and charges within the park, as well as the cost of food and drinks. These price hikes can offset the affordability of the pass itself, potentially impacting visitors' overall expenses.

It's important for park management to strike a balance between affordable entry options and the pricing of in-park services to ensure that the overall cost remains reasonable for visitors. Achieving this balance can help maintain the positive aspects of affordability while addressing concerns about increased expenses within the park.

Even at the previous price of $149/year, that equates to less than $3/week a child to send, as you put it, 'bogan kids' to a supervised environment rather than these local 'bogans' wandering around the neighbourhood looking for things to entertain themselves.

    • +1

Except for the reality that they sold a bucket load of additional tickets resulting in an increase in revenue.

  • +2

this is the place where those people got decapitated?

    • +8

      Yes.

  • do they actually check your address on entry?

    • +3

      Drivers license postcode.

  • +2

Really good deal, how did you come across this promo code?

    • +2

My wife's friend got it from somewhere ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • For anyone curious it was intended for kids/schools that participated in the Scarecrow project.

      • and you know this how ?

  • Can you buy today and make a first entry in Jan 24?

    • +2

Tickets are valid for 12 months from date of purchase unless otherwise specified.
So yes to your question, you can make your first entry next year Oct, then it will probably become a one day ticket.

      • If it's like village theme parks then the 12 months will start on first entry.

And you get 12 months to make the first entry.

    • +2

I believe it starts on the day of purchase.

    • +3

The 12 months starts on day of purchase.

      • Thanks mate. Disappointed that it's not same policy as Village theme parks.

        • +1

VRTP actually have recently changed their policy to 3 months to activate for annual passes.

I agree though it should be from first use (and I think 3 months is reasonable)

  • +6

Yeah one of my friends died at Dreamworld. The night before he flew up I popped my head into his office and wished him a nice holiday.

To put it very mildly, I won't be going there.

  • +3

Just confirming "seasonal entry to WhiteWater World" means unlimited entry during the seasons that they are open?

    • +3

      Correct

    • +4

if you manage to stay alive….

      • +1

        otherwise it becomes RedWater World.

  • +1

Thanks muchly OP, just bought two passes and looking forward to visiting a few times over the next 12 months (Costco is now next door in Coomera so food is all sorted) :)

  • +2

Fool me once. I'll never go back.

Stop using this site to voice your opinions on the park.

    • They probably avoid Luna Park too.

    • +5

      Any hot takes on SeaWorld?

It's a forum. People will voice their opinions. Stop using this site if you don't like seeing other opinions.

    • +3

Stop using this site to voice your opinions on the park.

Stop using this site to promote a business that has blood on its hands.

Or don’t. Unlike you I can handle finding opinions.

  • Thought there was a dreamworld in NSW

    • +2

yes we have, the NSW franchise, you have to close your eyes and begins at roughly 1am deep sleep

        • And your wealth

    • -2

On the positive side of this deal, looks like Dreamworld got screwed over with the code leaking beyond the target group.

  • Close to the deal price before covid
