    • They do have a history of being very slack on stopping codes from working.

  • Do u need a special stb box?

  • If I try really hard I can remember when IceTV was relevant. Oh wait no I can't, because even when free to air EPGs sucked there was Shepherd EPG. Waste of money.

    • Ice is good for people that want to record TV shows while they're at work etc. It's also pretty accurate and doesn't run into legal issues with scrappers.

      • People need to know there are other apps that will allow you to set recordings from your mobile, without paying a yearly fee.

EyeTV users, I'm mainly talking to you. Just buy the EyeTV apps for a few bucks.

There is a Windows Media Center plugin that allows remote recording, like wise TiVo allows remote recording and I assume there's one for MythTV. I still see zero reason for paying for this service, or even for it to exist.

Your memory is better than mine because I can't.
The phone app and all looks good but why would you spend that much money on a STB and then more money on an EPG when Australian TV is shit?

  • "Sorry, the discount code you entered has already been used the max number of times allowed."
    (As mentioned "thegames49" still works.)

    • Still shows as active for me.

  • does people not know how to use the internet, why would you still record shows off tv which airs 6 months late.

Just dl what ever shows you watch, no stress or tv ads!

but it may be useful for pay per views shows, but i dont think we have any in OZ though!

Dude, c'mon one is stealing, the other not. Your choice, but go troll elsewhere. We know what torrents are.

      • How is it stealing? Tv channels make money selling advertising slots based on ratings. These rating are calculated by samples of the population. If you are not in said sample, ratings are not effect by downloading, tv channels receive same amount of money which in turn means tv production companies receive the same amount of money. Zero income lost. Where's the stealing?

So basically downloading tv shows is no different to recording a show and fast forwarding through the ads. Seeing as this is an EPG service for PVRs get off your high horse because you are no different.

        Btw, torrents hey. Try UseNet.

        • I steal shows all the time. I call it stealing though. Business models are really irrelevant to the argument, it's intellectual property that I haven't gotten the permission to obtain. When Spotify for TV comes out, I'll pay that way :)

As for usenet, I was never really clear on the advantage? Torrent are more than fast enough for me, I can wait 10-15min max for a 720p ep.

        • Netflix/hulu + tunlr.net ftw

No you don't "steal" shows, you pirate shows. Stealing is when the owner has revenue or a item taken away from them. Neither happens when downloading shows.

        • Stealing is taking possession of an item, tangible or otherwise, which you have no legal right to.

This is a really stupid argument.. convince yourselves all day that you have a right to torrent/usenet shows. Mehhh.

        • Stealing involves removing possession of the item from the original owner.

Argue about the legalities/ethics/morality of copyright infringement all you want, but calling it "stealing" is far from accurate.

  • I currently use EyeTV — when i bought it years ago it came with an offer for IceTV, but after using the stock EyeTV software i couldnt understand how IceTV would benefit me?

Though i cant access it from home, i can already set it up to record specific series, shows at specific times/channels.

Is there anyone who can tell me what features IceTV gives me above the standard EyeTV software?

  • I don't really see many advantages over just using Freeview data. If this were $20 a year, I'd still have to weigh it up.

    • +2

If you choose not to have a Freeview device so you can skip rather than having to fast forward, then you don't get Freeview data.
Personally, I would rather pay $49 per year to have reliable data, where I can set most of my recordings via the web, once and forget about them, and have a device that allows me to skip ads rather than just fast forward.

      • My eyeTV does all that. Maybe I shouldn't have said Freeview? I mean just the over the air program guide. I can skip, schedule from mobile, steam to a mobile, steam to any browser.

I guess this is more for set top boxes maybe?
