Converting Petrol Car to Dual Fuel (Gas), Is It Worth It?

Hi all,

With the petrol prices showing no inclination of coming down, I am just wondering if it is worth adding the duel fuel option to the car. I understand that there will be a loss of boot space, but is it worth it overall?

Are there any disadvantages to it?

      • Sounds like an extra money spinner for the installer.

  • Don't do it.
Firstly, the cost is way too high. You will take years to even cover the cost of the conversion and will not add any value to the car.
Secondly, look around the service stations. Many have already removed LPG tanks, and many more will do so. Because numbers of LPG cars are dropping, it is no longer viable from insurance and maintenance costs to keep LPG, so you will find limited places to fuel up.
If you want an LPG car, buy one already done. But don't buy a dedicated LPG one, because with fewer refill stations, you may end up in a situation where you run out.
Consider a small diesel. A Peugeot 308 diesel will average around 1000km from a tank around town. A small hybrid car would also be a good option.

    • Diesel with DPF around town isn’t a good option. Diesel needs a good highway run every couple of weeks.

    • It's true about 1/3 to 1/2 have removed LPG in Vic. But it's not like it's hard to find. If half of the remaining ones remove it, that's ok by me it will still be easy to get. Guess it depends how many petrol stations you drive past/live near.

  • Had liquid injection system on my 2016 Territory. Best economy I can get out it is 16l/100km's.
