Coupon codes vs individual products

I'm sure this has come up many times before, although my search attempts failed to find a thread specifically on the matter.

I'm wondering what the policy or thoughts are on deals that involve coupon codes, and having a deal that lists the coupon with a few choices on how to use it, vs many deals that list individual products as bargains. For instance, lately particularly with Green Man Gaming there are site-wide coupon codes for 20-25% off, and you invariably get a deal for the coupon, but over the next few days you generally see individual products being listed in separate deals using the same coupon.

As an example, I listed the 20% off coupons here (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/80047), but you've now got deals listed for Civ V (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/80288), Civ V expansion (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/80290), Borderlands (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/80300) and Mafia (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/80309). All of them using the same coupon code.

It seems a bit spammy to me to have the same coupon code (basically the same offer) listed 5 times, especially when GMG coupons can only be used once (generally). Surely the ideal for the site is to have the coupon code listed once and the deal updated with the best value items.

Thoughts?

  • Deal submissions are for both coupons and products. Thanks for sharing the 20% off coupon code, however just having a 20% off code does not always mean a cheap bargain. Some others decided to go through their product lists to find specific products that can be considered good deals after the discount. Both are valid submissions I'll say.

I agree that having specific products is beneficial, but several listings for each one? Even the wiki suggests that deals from the same vendor should be combined. It just doesn't seem like it makes sense that we would want several deals (3+ on the same page at times) for the same coupon.
