What are the best free/minimal cost options to do this and where to give it?
Been letting hair grow out for about a year and wanting to donate the hair.
Planning to prep/cut at home.

A lot of ‘sustainable’ hairdressers will take the donation
You can send yourself, it needs to be a minimum of 20cm from hair elastic to hair elastic to be able to be donated https://www.cancervic.org.au/get-support/wig-service/donatin….
Also World's Greatest Shave: https://worldsgreatestshave.com/donate-hair
send it to Dr. Phillip Lowe's address for his future
Let it grow out a bit more and grow it into a majestic mullet like Aaron Chen the comedian had
there are places who will take your hair to make wigs for cancer patients or people suffering from alopecia. If you live in one of our capital cities, the cancer ward at your major hospital will gladly help you to donate your hair. I believe it has to be a minimum length. Best to ask. Sorry I can’t give you a specific contact number.
You got so much hair you’re giving it away? Thanks for rubbing it in
Wait until you hear about the people with so much hair that when they cut it they just throw it away…
1 year growth, can't be that long?
When I donated my hair, I had grown it out for 13 years. It was enough to feed a small village.
A small village ate your hair?

You can also do fundraising like Worlds greatest shave or a Cancer council fundraiser to get donations before you cut.
do they really need that form with name+age details?

That will make a fair amount of merkins
Which hair? I'm not sure if they take donations of short fuzzy hair! 🤣
