How much is it regularly that $6 is the special?

    • +3

      $7.50 is the normal price.

      • +2

Wow inflation sucks. RRP used to be 5.50 not that long ago.

      • I usually wait until they're 50% off at colesworth before stocking up (@ around the $4 mark)

  • +1

Crunchy available at the same price

  • +4

Lotus Biscoff is so hot right now. All the local bakeries around me have some kind of Biscoff themed product.

    • +14

You in Austria. This is not surprising.

    • +2

Or sickly sweet milkshakes at fast food joints.

    • +2

Yeah, I'm seeing it everywhere. It's the new Nutella.

      • Man Nutella had some staying power. I wonder if it really does boost sales by making it a viral bakery/cafe ingredient.

  • +19

Saw this a few days ago. Still waiting for when they go on sale at around $3.50

  • -1

    ah yes.. the devil's earwax.
probably good as an allergen-free alternative to peanut butter for gluing down tiles, but not much else

  • +4
    • +3

Which in moderate amounts is fine…
A teaspoon mixed into the yoghurt for overnight oats is a great flavour and carb addition.

    • But manages to taste like 136 per cent sugar
It's so sickly sweet its practically inedible

  • +1

Will wait till prime day sale should get a good price then

  • +4

    Not much of a bargain.

    Cheaper than RRP? Yes.
    Bargain? No.

  • +6

ordered four when it was a few bucks… never again put on 4-6kg in a month or so

    • How does this compare with peanut butter or almond butter etc for sugar, fat/saturated fat and general health?

      • +7

im the last person to be asking about health I let myself put on 4-6kg in a month by eating the stuff 🤣🤣

      • +3

Based on the Biscoff website, Bega website and Nutella website, I made a quick table for you:

per 100g Biscoff | Bega PB | Nutella
        Energy (kJ) 2435 | 2580 | 2252
        Protein (g) 2.9 | 23.7 | 6.3
        Carbs (g) 57 | 13.4 | 57.5
        Sugars (g) 36.8 | 8.4 | 56.3
        Fat (g) 38.1 | 51.3 | 30.9
        Saturated (g) 7.6 | 10.3 | 10.6
        Fiber (g) 0.8 | N/A | 3 |
        Salt (g) 0.54 | 0.578 | 0.107

No idea about general health, but probably "don't eat in excess" XD

        • Thanks. Looks like Nutella is more potent from a sugar perspective

      • +8

This is a dessert, and an extremely unhealthy one at that. I mean, it’s ground up sugar cookie…delicious, but you won’t get any health benefits from it.
Peanut butter, along with some other nut butters, although high in calories also give a decent amount of protein and a few other goodies. As with pretty much everything, in moderation, you can enjoy a lot of things. For me, it’s a bit of extra protein and flavour on my breakfast protein bread.

      • +2

Full of sugar and bad fats….god it tastes good though.
I've never eaten a jar of peanut butter in one 4 hour period, but this is like crack

      • +1

What spread isn't loaded with sugars and/or fats.

Any butters from nuts = fats - bit healthier

Choco-like spread either has sugars and/or fats mixed with nuts (inc coconut derivatives which are NOT healthy for you)

And then you got Jams - whether it be pure fruit jams or mixed with sugar or sugar-like alternatives.

Best just to avoid as much as possible the LOT.

Have some nuts and on occasion spreads.

        • +2

Pure nut butter has loads of health-promoting attributes like Vitamin E and antioxidants.

There is no comparison between the "fat" in nut butters and the processed palm oil used to bulk up things like Nutella.

      • This is terrible nutritionally and has no redeeming features except pleasure. (Which is fine! Just know that you're indulging.)

Pure nut butters are good for you, although of course you shouldn't have more than a few teaspoons a day.

Butters with additives (like standard PB) have salt and sugar and oils added. Less good, but still not too bad. Better than something like Nutella which is basically 85% sugar and oil.

Biscoff is in that last category. Avoid, or have a teaspoon for dessert occasionally.

        • although of course you shouldn't have more than a few teaspoons a day.

Yep and thats the tough part for most.

    • Four of these = 1.6kg.

Even if you ate them all, including the plastic they come in, in one sitting - you wouldn't have weighed 2kg more, let alone 4-6kg.

And in reality, you gain much less weight from a food than the mass of the food itself, obviously.

      • +1

*Correction: they come in glass jars

    • +10

no reason to downvote its still good shit

  • I literally finished the last of the 1.6kg tub I got for $20 back in May, which is $1.25 per 100g instead of this deal at $1.50 per 100g. I hold off for now

  • +4

1 tablespoon of Biscoff = 32 minutes of brisk walking to burn off those calories

  • +2

if you really have any concerns for your health, you'd avoid this, even at $2
It's basically caramelised/ground cookie whizzed with Brown Sugar Syrup.
So take 40 cookie biscuits, break them up with a kitchen hammer, pour 5 cups of brown sugar syrup and mix.
There's 0 benefit in this, probably with the exception of cinnamon which is the last ingredient on the list.

Now before you talk about Nutella,
it contains Hazelnuts, Milk and Cocoa, at least something your body can use.
Nutella is high in sugar, Biscoff spread is made from a cookie called speculoos which is high in sugar and fat.

    • +2

Your body can "use" everything except the very small amount of fibre.

Nutella isn't really any better - it is 71% sugar and palm oil alone.

  • we were serving this on stuff at work until recently, pretty tasty. even ate some straight out of a container because i have absolutely no self control.
