Recommendations for 16" Laptop for Work - Budget $2k

Hey everyone, I'm looking at upgrading my laptop for work. I would love your recommendations for a good one, with good battery hours high on my list of requirements.

I mainly use Google Suite and web browsing, but I wouldn't mind spending extra to be able to occasionally play games and future-proofing it.

    Do you have a budget?

No budget in mind, but preferably would like to stay below $2k.

      • If you asking us, the best way to deal with this would be to visit a retailer, jb/gg or HN then haggle a $2000+ laptop to fit into your budget, make sure to google the model number for comparison. you can't go wrong with that. This way you get to inspect the item physically as well.

Razer Blade 16 16" QHD+ 240Hz Gaming Laptop (13th Gen Intel i9)[GeForce RTX 4080] - Perfect for web browsing, you can open as many browser windows as possible.

    • Don't forget the eGPU too

Doesn't satisfy the criteria of "good battery hours" 😜

      • It will be a heavy as concreate slab, just plug it in lol

        • Yeah but OP has mentioned the above criteria

What do you do for work and why isn't your employer paying for it?

    Google Suite and web browsing

    $2k

    Is this a wind up

    • If you go to JB Hifi, you can easily spend $1,300‐1,700. I recently bought my mom a laptop for her online marketing and web designing for $1,700.

Coming from a non-PC/Laptop techy background who hasn't bought my own and only had hand-me-downs from my brother when he upgrades, I genuinely have no idea what's worth buying out there.

I genuinely have no idea what's worth buying out there.

Nothing new is worth buying out there to be honest. I have spent 3K almost on a laptop too, stupid mistakes. Prices dwindle rapidly on eBay/gumtree/marketplaces.
So buy the dwindled priced ones from there if your care about $ per value.

        • What are some good models to look out for second hand?

          • @KeeganBargains: I'd recommend Dell XPS 13/15 or Lenovo Yoga 700/900 series at the top budget end, especially those that could be most easily upgraded (RAM and SSD wise). Otherwise mid tier ones hp spectre/ Lenovo Ideapads/Dell Inspiron etc are also good.

ofcourse you need to look for your specs needs first.

Microsoft products are okay too, But once something goes wrong with them its a nightmare to repair (and probably better to chuck in bin (unless you can make some other use of it). aka dont expect an easily replaceable battery or SSD/RAM etc.

  • i recently bought an ideapad pro 5 for $1200 from lenovo. yay sales

    • Do you mind sharing a link?

pick the cheap one and upgrade to the faster processor for $70 more

chat to the guy on the website and they give a bit more discount

  • Hmm buy a chromebook as you dont seem to need anything offline and saveup money that way ???

or buy a used Laptop from eBay, say any popular one, like Dell XPS/Inspiron, HP spectre, Lenovo Thinkpads/Yoga, or Microsoft Surface line up ? literally so many options.

Can even look at like arm based x86 chip laptops too.

    • Good advice. I'll do more research on which laptop and might consider buying a used one. Thanks!

    • Thanks! Will read more about this.

15 inch MacBook Air meets your brief for battery life (18-hours) but display may be too small and you may have an aversion to MacOS.

    • I've never really considered Mac, but having a look at it, it does fit what I need. I've never owned one though so I might go and check it out in person. Thanks!
