Temu Is in The Mainstream News for Identity Theft

Why the Temu app craze is downright crazy: Online retailer pulls data for Chinese communists

Does Temu steal information?
In fact, TEMU's parent company, Pinduoduo (now known as PDD) was found to have installed malware on unsuspecting customers that ransacked their phones and computers for data. They also embedded coding that made it nearly impossible to uninstall the app; unsurprisingly, it was taken down from Google Play.5 Aug 2023

  • Just bought some yesterday

    • I ordered an item on Temu a few days ago that was clearly heavily discounted.
Since then they have literally plagued me with unecessary messages and bait advertising every day!
      Never seen anything like it.
      App deleted from my phone.
      Stay away!

  • The articles is a bit bias i think

    • Understatement of the week :)

          it on mainstream news.

It clearly states it as OPINION at the top..

The author is not a journalist…not that the NYPOST is considered as a reputable news source….

The author states their credentials at the end of the Opinion.

Notwithstanding that, I would still never ever buy or sign up to TEMU.

The essence of the Opinion is valid.

    You need better news sources.
That's mostly repeating talking points from March.

That nypost article is especially poorly written, and wouldn't look out of place in a congressional hearing asking if an app on someone's phone connects to their wifi.

Find articles with actual technical detail to understand what an app may or may not be scraping.
And how permissions differ between the app you may download here compared to the one someone in China does.

Plenty of talk here for example as a more technical starting position than either of those news sources (quick google search result)

I don't see why that's a problem? Doesn't negate any of the points imo

  • But I wanna shop like a billionaire

  • What's Temu?

    • An alternative to Aliexpress.

Kinda like wish (ie dodgy af)

      • Geesus u cant compare temu and wish. Wish totally fake

REal M.v.p HERE. how do you get the mail though?

  • If you’re dumb enough to trust the Chinese scam app with your details

You absolutely deserve to be scammed and have your identity stolen

Don’t whinge and cry about it afterwards and expect help when it’s completely your fault for being stupid.

a lot of dumb people EXcept you!!!! lol

Which company isn't stealing or gathering information?

    • -1

      Apple.

        Keep deluding yourself.

        • +1

Try logic. They are not in ads business, they sell devices. Respecting privacy sells more devices.

          • @nuker: You're still deluding yourself. Apple does collect information on their customers. Fact. Stop burying your head in the sand.

          • +1

            @nuker:

They are not in ads business, they sell devices.

meaning they only collect/gather user data for their own purpose and dont share it.
They have an ad business, and just because they may share less of a users information with the advertiser, doesnt mean apple doesnt know your info and isnt using it to increase its profit

Their marketing is clearly working :)

  • Too late! Already signed up, installed app & surprisingly… inundated with messages & unknown phone calls but I won’t whinge & cry about it @Dack Smith because I know no one cares! 😭

  • The Temu ads on Facebook are quality though. o_O

  • Just use the website and PayPal, I haven't had any issues but prefer AliExpress

    • Exactly. I've had no problems going through the Temu website. Items were bargains, shipping free, arrived well inside the projected period.

  • even on iphone cannot stop it ?

  • Been using both Aliexpress and Temu without issue.
Harvey Norman and other brick and mortar stores must have paid the TV stations money to smear Temu.
Both Temu and Ali also have excellent refund policy.
