I am posting as I'm curious as to what people prefer. Personally I have 3 external drives hooked up to my Series X, and one 2TB M.2 for my PS5.
How Do You Manage Storage on Your PS5/Series X|S?
Poll Options
- 24I only use internal storage options e.g. M.2 or Expansion Card
- 4I only use cheap external HDDs to move games between internal and external.
- 8I use a combination of both.

What do you keep on internal storage then?
xsx games that need it to run… when some titles are 120-150gb each, space runs out quick :(
I should probably get an external HDD to dump all my old Games With Gold games, to free up all the internal SSD space.
Do it, I'm using an old shucked enclosure with a 4tb SMR drive with a few bad sectors and it's been running fine. I figured if it ever died then I could just re download the content, the bad sectors haven't bothered it one bit and it's 90% full :)
I got the deal on the WD 1TB ssd card for XSX. I wait for a good deal on ssd for PS5.
Just internal storage for me. Once I finish a game, I delete it and even sell the physical disc.
Only two PS5 games have I kept. Elden Ring and Returnal.
Internal storage since it's gotten cheaper since PS5 release and it's easy to install.
Don't even bother with external HDDs at this rate.
Installed a 2TB M.2 drive and it's been plenty so far (alongside the internal storage) for the games that I'm normally playing or am finishing
I bought a 4TB external HDD a while back and that's where I move all my completed PS5 games as well as all my PS4 games.
how much porn are u downloading? u should split it by category: midget, gay, hentai, etc…
lol - username checks out?
If you’re making fun with such a username, perhaps categories such as ‘Huge’ ‘G-@pot’ & ‘@rection’ would have been more appropriate?
Edit: didn’t neg you
Just delete games I don't play/haven't played in a while. Not going to shell out $200+ for another drive just so I can have 10 games on the go at once.
Yeah, it’s like people forget we can just redownload them. How many games are people playing at any one time?
It's more for people who have bad internet I would say. For some, it is inconvenient to have to wait over 4 to 5 hours for a 100gb+ game to install.
For myself personally it took 3hrs 30mins to install Jedi Survivor back when it released earlier this year (the game was 133gb).
External HDD for PS4 games.
Internal NVME for PS5 games.Play. Complete. Delete.
I store what I primarily play in the internal default storage, plus 3 or 4 more games.
I find that less distracting and allows me to give the games its good time to completion.
for xsx, cheap external SSD and cheap external HD - SSD is hot storage for games that I am playing often and HD is cool/less hot storage to store games I don't want to download again but may play in future
