Do JB Hi-Fi & Other Tech Retailers Sell MacBook Air M1 16GB RAM ?

Guys I'm interested to buy brand new 16GB RAM version of M1 Air only.
But I can't find in any retailer website other than Apple.

Can anyone able to buy outside of apple in the past ? OR we need to buy only in Apple for 16gb RAM versions ?

Note: Also I have Ultimate home gift cards so my options are limited to Jb hi-fi, office works, good guys, apple and few more I guess

Thanks

  • School Locker sells CTO MacBooks.

    • Thanks mate.
I'm interested to buy brand new only and with ultimate home gift cards- updated the post

      • I bought apple gift cards at JBhifi with ultimate home gift cards then used that to buy a MacBook from apple education store. not sure if Jbhifi still allows to purchase apple gift cards with ultimate gift cards though

  • Are you wanting to buy it in person or buy it online? There is MWave

    • Happy for both ways as long as brand new and Ultimate home gift cards can be used

Unfortunately it seems your only real option is the refurb on Apple's Certified Refurbished website. For what it's worth, it's covered by the exact same limited warranty and returns policy as a brand new device, and you can also get AppleCare. From what I've heard, they are as good as the brand new ones.

    • Solid advice, I've purchased a few times from the refurb store, everything has been as-new.

    • Yup I'm hearing the same thought from few people too, but I think If I'm able to buy from Australian Education Union Home then that will be even cheaper with brand new device. Just checked it comes down to 1554.30 for new one.

  • Can I just ask why are you after a 16gb Macbook M1? Sure 8gb is not enough for say 20 tabs and 5 applications open, but you will hardly find it useful if you are not a power user.

Yes had to think about that a lot.

8gb is sure enough for most of the stuff but would go for 16gb in case If I needed it for anything in future.
Also not sure what will be my requirement after few years - just in case.

    • Windows/Intel users tend to be fixated on RAM, where 8GB is indeed fine for most Mac OS users. We're both about to get negged off the thread by outraged PC users.

lol I'm a PC user myself with 32gb RAM and a base M2 Air for work, but I get what you mean.

      • It's really not. It just doesn't feel like it because the SSD can keep up with the swapping. MacOS alone is using 3gb already before anything is open. I owned a base M1 Air briefly based on this advice and it struggled to run MS Teams without anything else running, although that was before they release the native AS version.

This isn't even a power user workflow, there's just no room!

      • I'm a Mac user and you're wrong. 8GB is well managed by Mac, but I tried it myself and quickly found out the answer! Even for moderate productivity use 8GB will be consumed pretty quick. Nubix is also correct that it's not as bad of an experience as on PC with 8GB, partially because of the relatively fast SSD for disk RAM swapping.

        @OP — I sent you a PM.

  • Swap cards for Apple instore at Jb and buy from Apple direct. Wait for Black Friday as you’ll get gift card and also cash rewards cashback.

I own a MacBook Air m1 only 8gb and works very well (mostly browsing documents and apps for teaching).

I’m upgrading during Black Friday. I was thinking M2 air 13 with 512gb. Currently pondering if I should upgrade ram as well. Not sure it’s really needed for me though (as I don’t plan to use for any heavy tasks)

Maybe I should stick to the m1 512gb. In any case I’ll need to get a new laptop as current one will be used at university by my kid.
